Top debut by Henriques. Another couple of digs like that and I think it's safe to say we'll have our new #6.

Now for the $64,000 question… Who do you pick as a second spinner? Doherty, Hauritz... O'Keefe?

We need to get that Pakistani refugee playing for the Vics - get him fast-tracked citizenship and get him over there! Imagine that - poor bastard spends years getting out here and then we send him to India!!

Our Spinners are just trundlers, & we probably have three Batsmen up to scratch, Siddle looked under done & Starc had a bad game. When you look at some of the players in our top order we are in for a long ride, it looks more like one day team. P.S the Poms would be peeing them selfs laughing.

I'm not even happy with the way our top 4 is setup

Phil Hughes at 4 ,surely not

1 Cowan
2 Warner
3 Hughes
4 Watson /Clarke
5 Clarke / Watson

Bugger me dead ,I've worked it out

Sheens is Australian Cricket Coach

Excellent strategy by the selectors, picking 4 openers. Certainly sounds like a Sheens tactic…

Looking at the pitch, it looks more like The French Open tennis court then a cricket pitch. In saying that, Dhoni, Kohli, Clarke and Henriques showed the other batsman how to bat on a spinning pitch.

They defended with soft hands, used their feet and used the crease to work the ball around. The others, in particular the Aussie top 4, showed no foot work at all and couldn't sweep either, causing them to become stuck neither back nor forward.

i've read a lot of comments about the pitch and one of my mates even said the play should've been called off coz the pitch was not safe to bat on.

i really don't understand so much hatred against a turning pitch. in australia, sa and england… green pitches are created that assist fast bowlers (which is the country's strength) so the subcontinental pitches are created to turn which is the subcontinental country's strength.

anyways, a great test by india..fantastic innings by dhoni and a great game for ashwin overall.. he had been all over the place against england but in this test he kept bowling in the same spot and varied his pace and length rather than the line.

what are people's thoughts about lyon? how long should he be persisted for? has his performances done enough for you?

There's nothing wrong with a turning track, just cos it doesn't cater to the Aussies does it mean its a bad pitch. Thats the advantage of being the home team, you get to dictate the pitch you want. Its not like we don't do it

Hauritz CB easily the best spin bowler in this country After that probably Richie Benaud ,Dutchy Holland ,Ashley Mallett or Stuart McGill , spin bowling stocks very ordinary at the moment

I didn't have a problem with the pitch at all, it wasn't as if both teams were dismissed for 100\. If you knew how to play spin, there were runs to be scored. And if it wasn't for Dhoni swinging the game on that 3rd afternoon, we would of had a very tight finish on our hands.

The only problem I had was when the Indians toured Australia they openly complained about the pitches being doctored which I don't think they are, if they were, I don't think we would of had such green pitches when SA and England toured. The pitches in Australia are just how they naturally are.

About Lyon, well I think we have backed ourselves into a corner. We're at a point where we just need to stop the spin bowling revolving door. I think the selectors realise that and that's why they are giving Lyon a prolonged run. Those things aside and Hauritz and O'Keefe would be my two spinners for this tour. If Hauritz recieved the support from Ponting that Lyon receives from Clarke, he would still be in the side imo.

Mate I don't hate the pitch. We saw nearly 1200 scored on the pitch in just over four days. My disgust lies with the Australian selectors for not picking the appropriate bowling attack. One extra spinner would have added the extra degree of variety to the team. Adam Zampa would have offered more than Starc or Siddle! Every country doctors their pitches.

They complained about the piss up that the groundsmen and their mates had on the WACA pitch a few nights before the test. Totally different

i dont remember any of that tbh. neither what GNR is saying.. i'll have a look later.

and no CB. i wasnt referring to you or anyone on this forum. i read heaps of comments on cricinfo.. that is what i was alluding to.

the aussie selectors are picking waaay too many allrounders.

We were given a cricket lesson , there cricket pitch is absolutely shocking.

Sorry FT did the teams use separate pitches or the same pitch ??

Obviously the better side over the 4.5 days won out

We only have ourselves to blame with team selections and not learning to cope with the conditions We seem to always make excuses for playing badly in India

Thoughts on the Aussie line up for the 2nd test?

1\. Warner
2\. Cowan
3\. Hughes
4\. Watson
5\. Clarke
6\. Wade
7\. Henriques
8\. Maxwell
9\. Siddle
10\. Pattinson
11\. Doherty

Starc and Lyon have been left out, Doherty and Maxwell in. Not sure about this…

Maxwell in is probably a good move, Doherty for Lyon is a sideways move, but still not having 2 full time spinners in India is just stupid.
