397 is a good total on this pitch. It's just going to get worse. Lyon could prove to be crucial.
4-56 and Johnson looks like the same bloke who was thundering down on the Aussie decks. These signs are all great for the Aussies.

wow, i was very cautious with what to expect on this tour following the ashes because the south africans are an entirely different beast to the english, but it is really looking like the aussies are the real deal!
so far. still, very unexpected from me, but very happy!! go australia!!

Saffas in all sorts of trouble at 6-140 at stumps De Villiers batting well at 50 odd not out

Hope to roll them for under 200 and set them 400 + in five sessions

This side can bat , we can't take them lightly

Fearsome stuff from Johnson again. How comfortable did Smith look with it! Amazing how pure speed can reduce accomplished batsmen to flinching, nervous wrecks. It was delightful.

Harris never looked likely. The good thing there is that I have never seen him go two days in a row like that. Look for him to take his mop out tonight and clean up the tail.

The wicket already looks to be playing tricks. I think you're on the money Happy. 350-400 with 5 sessions should do it. Forecast is for patchy rain over the coming days so that should be enough time.

Loving the attitude of this team.

Australia in the dominant position in South Africa and the Victorians getting annihilated by the Blues. Great time to be a New South Welshman for once hahaha

Johnson is on fire and the Proteas will be very lucky to get out of this match with anything but a loss. This pitch will get tougher and tougher to bat on and we lead by almost 240 and the Proteas only have 4 wickets left and will have to bat last. Superb work by the Aussies.

The Duke is still in, anything can happen!

Maxwell 127 out of 186\. Someone else made 30 and the rest made 29 between 9 of them including extras…

A good morning session for Australia. We rolled the Proteas in the first session and have taken the lead to over 200\. Anything over 300 I think will prove to be too much on this tricky pitch.

The South Africans are starting to look a little sloppy in the field too. That's a mental thing which is not a good look for a top team.

Australia are effectively 1/338 with 7 sessions left in the Tests

If we bat for 2 more sessions we could set the bastards 600

A massive victory in the first of a short 3 Test series could be crucial

Especially on their version of the Gabba , really sink them mentally

I love beating the Saffas at anything

Watson has to be getting a little nervous right now. Who gets the chop if he's fit for the next test? 3 batsmen have made tons here, and Doolan is looking good too. You can't drop Pup, so that just leaves Rogers who finished strong in the Ashes.

If Watson comes into this team, it's an outright joke. He has lived on promise and performed in the test arena only when the match/series is dead. He cannot replace either Doolan or Marsh with what they've shown which to their credit, is more then I thought they both had.

Watson only scores runs in second innings. Can't see any changes for second tests.

I hope Johnson cleans them up on day 4.

Going for 6 tests wins in a row. what a turn around from the Ashes in England.

Coach is a genius.

You cannot drop Darsh, scoring nearly 200 in this test alone. Doolan had a good dig last night and validated the faith invested in him.

As I've said before, Watson only performs when the pressure is off and rarely bowls and the Ashes has shown that we can perform with the three pacemen plus the tweaker.

Watson offers nothing to this side and our batting is our biggest issue. You cannot drop Darsh or Doolan if they are performing with bat. It should now be upon Watson to return to Sheffield Shield and perform and wait for his chance to return to the side.

Regardless of Watson's ability (& I agree he's severely overrated), the way he is constantly in and out of the team due to his injuries means the team can;t build a consistent unit. He shouldn't be in the team until he can prove he can actually hold down a spot for more than a couple of games,.
