Cricket Season Thread

@hobbo1 try and appreciate what you’re watching. We’ve got the privilege of watching a batting talent that in all likelihood won’t be seen again in most of our lifetimes.

Never seen a bowling attack out of answers to one batsman. Crazy when he was in the 90’s and he was casually knocking around singles like it was club cricket. And the commentators weren’t even making a big deal of it. The way he’s going atm, getting him out in the 70’s would be a big win for the Poms. Imagine where this side would be without him. Replace him Khawaja. Scary thought.

Cocky ate @hobbo1 antenna.....when Smith was on 79...

Gee I know it was good , but he’s a one man army and it’s a pretty sad state of affairs for Aussie cricket... really not good enough him shouldering such a load. Jeez, luckily we all forgave him for that silly sandpaper indiscretion innit. 303 declared final innings I reckon (Smith 300* after entering @ 2-1)

I think the thing that is easily forgotten about the whole sandpaper gate is:
1. Smith didn't cheat (he turned a blind eye which in reality is a weakness of character or lack of leadership as opposed to cheating - a fine line I know but a genuine one in reality )
2. The ICC variously banned all three for ONE match plus a fine. It could have ended there and then as it would have with most other cricketing nations - especially India.
3. Most major cricket nations in the past 10 years have had players fined and banned by the ICC for ball tampering including England, India, Pakistan
4. It was CA who handed down the 12 month suspensions due to unprecedented public "outrage" in a period in time where outrage is normal
5. Personally I think the CA bans and the flagellation all three received were markedly over the top (each can have their own opinion without being wrong/right)

Its done and dusted, I am beginning to appreciate what it must have been like to see Bradman play.... lucky to be seeing it in person I reckon.

Mate you’re spot on. Agree with everything been said, think sometimes we even forget just how important and a fine line it is having the captain’s/leaders job in any walk of life... although I think Smithy is amazing and was also left feeling betrayed by our own Cricketing legends and fans of the game... so quick to hold it against a REAL quality player.

I think his character itself has to be even more impressive though, to make the knock he did, in the circumstances he did - well we’re not Australia if Steve isn’t playing (at least not one that I’d like to associate my support with).

On another note, what a find Labuschagne has been... Head and Wade need to make runs because Harris is obviously being looked at as a potential heir to Warner; which I can’t disagree with atm but he and Paine need to also find consistency to hold their places as there *are* actually options other than the Marsh boys. ?

Generally it never looks good in Manchester, the place is a dive. Rather than posting a picture of covers on the cricket pitch, they could have just posted a photo of the city centre
