Cricket Season Thread

I think the cup is the Lankans to lose.
-Australia are just not playing well enough
-Pakistan and the West Indies are too inconsisntent to string 3 together
-England and NZ are downright awful
-South Africa will choke again
-India don't have the bowlers to win it, granted their batting line up is unbelievable (Sehwag, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Singh, Gambhir, Pathan) but it's no use scoring 350 runs if you're going to leak 370 against a good batting side.

The Lankans just seem to have a really balance team, with quality in all areas.

Cmon Boys,

Cricket is bad enough in the Summer, This is Tiger Time…..

In all reality. Is it me or Is cricket dying in Aust. No one seems to care anymore.

Cricket needs a good dose of narcan to breathe life back into it. People are tired of inconsistent form, some selections which appear to favour some and the goings on of Punter. New blood and enthusiasm is needed from the top down not people trying to protect themselves and not accept accountability. Of course results always helps and losing the ashes to the Poms definitely didn't.

First QF at the cup, West Indies rolled for 112 against Pakistan. Afridi the chief destroyed with 4/30\. Chanderpaul 44 not out was the only West Indies player to put up a fight, with Sarwan (24) and Roach (16) the only others to crack double figures.

Afridi in my opinion is a shoe in for player of the tournament.

When you look at the size of the population the West Indies has to draw from, it is amazing how many legendary players they have had since entering test cricket. Unfortunately, it seems they are right now at one of their lowest ebbs over that time. Greed looks like it has taken its toll with dodgy administrators and lazy players filling the ranks.

Shouldn't get it on principle alone, the guy is a serial cheat and how he is still allowed to play international cricket is beyond me!

Hate him too, but he's been great this cup. Only other option for it right now is Yuvraj, with 284 runs (3 fifties and a ton) and 11 wickets @ 23.5

A true champion stands up

Well done Ricky Ponting on century number 6 in World Cups

hear hear Geo….maybe now the retards in the media will get off his back and let him work.

Under immense pressure that was a superb ton.

I was one of those retards I'm glad he proved me wrong 261 Could be an interesting total Another sleepless night it seems

surprised we did not give johnson a bit of a slog at 5 or 6 extra 20 might have been helpful . Tait has bowled junk so far He always chokes in big games

Never really in doubt in the end….Indias superior batting line up got them home.

I thought 260 was a light score. We probably should have been up around 300\. Having said that, I dont think that would have made any difference. Our bowling was poor, their batting was great.

So happy to see Rick get a century in his last world cup game. With every clown sticking the boot in, I'm glad he was able to give them all one last "up yours"....

The amount of pressure and deathriding Punter has copped has been disgraceful. The bloke is not popular with the media but always was, and always will be, my favourite player.

I watched a classic match the other day from the 94/95 season when there was the Triangular series in Australia featuring the English and Zimbabwe + Australia A, and a 19 year old Ricky Ponting featured for Australia A. He looked worlds away from the broken and maligned player he is today, and the media scrutiny has to play a part in that.

He plays the game hard and lets his emotions get the best of him sometimes, but I like that quality in a captain, it shows he is human. The way media and public savage him for that is nothing short of disgraceful.

Good to see him smash a ton in what may be his last ODI dig. I'm hoping he puts the colours away, and enjoys a few more years concentrating on Test cricket.

oh well we won the last three 50/50 world cups. i guess we cant always win

but still :frowning:
