Cricket Season Thread

What story?
As a 12yo he and his not much older brother moved to Mumbai city from bumfart county India, without parents, on the roof of an overflowing train. When got there they were homeless and living in a tent near the ground, and they would temp in and man a street stall for the owners, so the owner could take a piss. The boys would get paid in food. Eventually they befriended a grounds keeper who would let the sleep in their tents somewhere closer and a bit safer. All this bcoz at 10 Jaiswal said to his poor farmer dad “I will play cricket for India one day”and wouldn’t give it up.
I hear that Cobbo has been outa sorts bcoz he’s homesick, and home many young blokes do you reckon are prepared to live in a tent for one night to play their sport.
I used to sleep in the Ute (2 door, so no laying the seat back), in the carpark at Threadbo to go snowboarding. A few times it snowed so much over night I could barely open the door.
Obviously unless I found some loving, and then I’d score a bed in a motel room.

I have saying “you wanna do something? Then get off your ass and do it. Don’t wait for someone to hold your hand or you’ll never do anything”.

Unless something dramatic happens soon we’re 0-1 down. We need to seriously look at our batting stocks. There were guys who couldn’t make our second XI 20 years ago who would walk into this side.

What stocks? We have no one who looks like they could come in and do a good job. Maybe Inglis.

We are in big trouble for the next few years. I just don't see where the batting is going to come from. Konstas, Kingsell and Wyllie are young and talented, but a long way off test cricket.

We need ti unearth a talent through the short game that has the mentality to transform that talent to test cricket. Like we did with Warner. Maybe that's Inglis, maybe Phillippe.

Has there ever been a more “me me me me” cricketer than Marnus. His team getting absolutely plastered and all he cares about in the last over of the day is checking how many km’s he’s clocking. He’s a real douche that one.

Yeah he can be, but he’s always in the game. Except when he’s batting these days.

The story about Jaiswal highlights just how blessed most people are in developed countries.I wish him every success as a cricketer but it just highlights the plight of billions of people in our world who don't have the talent to make life for themselves and their families more acceptable when they live in poverty. Most of the world are not as lucky as we are here in Oz

I think we can now turn attention to the Second Test coz this one, imo, is gone.
It will mean we have to rethink our approach, and could possibly be a blessing in disguise. Let’s try a top order batting as they should and a bowling attack that, without the first day pitch fizz, starting looking decidedly pedestrian.
Maybe we shouldn’t have gone to Perth first, given our years of success at the Gabba.
Anyway, a good challenge and hopefully we can fight back. That’s what 5 tests are for.

There’s a few people in India and only 11 spots, I reckon there’s probably others living in tents that never make it.

Never give up.

No reason we can't draw this test as this wicket has settled down
Evidence ?
Starc batted over 100 balls and top scored
India 0-178 In 2nd innings (so far India's highest opening partnership in over 40 years ) that is in Australia
So why can't our top order put on 400+
Probably not as most of our top 6 out of form especially Smith and Marnus
who have terrible averages in last 10 tests
Next test don't pick anyone whos 2024 redbaĺl averages say their out of form !

I have known many people born in India during my life and have nearly always found them to be very good people who believe in working hard and looking after their family(including a couple of ex girlfriends from over 50 years ago). The sad part is these are the lucky few who have made a new life after migrating to other countries, life in India would be very difficult for the vast majority who still live in India(politics and the caste system responsible for much of that).

I’ve found them generally to be good people, can be very tight with $$$, and I swore I’d never work for them again and now we have a good relationship.

The real bosses of world cricket have made it clear whos in charge
That's the BCCI and the IPL
Much of the Ch 7 test commentary team have been summoned to go to Saudi to attend the IPL auctions
Ponting Langer and co must go
Test cricket is not as important as the bloody IPL

Actually its not them.
Santa has put Aussie on the bad list and instead of coal, you have to listen to Davie dumb dumb.

The game created a monster with 20/20. 20 years ago when they started this trash, it was literally played for a laugh. I remember Brett Lee saying something along the lines of “If you start judging players on 20/20 form then it’s being taken too seriously”. And look where we are now. It’s a tragedy.

Yep, but over half of the test playing nations can't draw a crowd to a test. Australia, England and (I think) India draw crowds to tests but no-one else. Sadly, test cricket is dying. T20 games last around 3 hours which is about the attention span of most people these days e.g MLB and NFL.
