Cricket Season Thread

@Stevec
It’s a popular thread when we’re getting flogged Stevo.
Yes BF I said my piece quite a bit last few days but losing by 295 runs when our bowlers did a great job on Day1 is one of the worst performances in a long while
Imo make no change to the team and we will lose again
Anyway glad to now forget about cricket for a couple of weeks
Ps I can use the time to study what the word "woke " means
Being an oldie its all beyond me LOL

I suppose the issue right now is the established guys are failing so we might as well give some of these younger guys a crack. It might get interesting if he gets a decent score against Tassie today,
As usual the selectors can never drop anyone before they make a fool of themselves. Marnus should have been dropped last season and Smith left at 4 or to 3. Should have picked an opener so they had 12 months in the position before India. Now we are chasing.
The other problem is no one is knock down the door to get in, Bancroft had a couple of good years and should have been given the nod last year but now he can’t even see the ball. I think Konstas needs another season tbh, but he’s got some form.
I would be picking a “current state form only” side and trying to fit a few into the Oz team, that may mean the end of Smith

Woke means not asleep.
I got ya covered Steve.

Okay we batted terribly once again, but credit has to be given to India. Their bowlers bowled a full length at the poles. There were very few gift balls. Australia were forced to play at balls doing a bit at pace, and they were not good enough to handle the challenge.

Can’t see things changing a great deal through the series. We have a bowling attack that is starting to slide, granted from a high peak, but our batting has been terrible for some time.

They will not drop anyone for test 2, but they have to start to making some changes very soon, so we can gradually ease new players into the team with the ashes only 12 months away

Oh for the days guys like Marcus North, Matt Elliott, Brad Hodge, Stuart Law, David Hussey couldn't get a start. That's your top 5 right there
It hasn't been easy batting in shield cricket for the last few years. It's why there is no one averaging 50 at the moment. Pucovski was supposed to be the chosen one, sad that he only played one test. Cam Green is also special, but out for a long time due to injury.

Nothing will change until the series is lost then some of our elderly (ie everyone except McSweeney) will be "rested". Nobody gets dropped from the Australian Cricket Team since the Clarke era. Everyone gets to go out on their own terms then straight into a cushy commentary job.

I've been reading a lot of post mortems on line and a couple of things stood out
Capt Pat doesn't feel the need for change because as he said one test is a very small sample size
I don't agree as I think our batting woes have been around a while and getting worse
Looking at most recent Australia batting in red or white ball I took no notice of the 3 T20i vs Pakistan as its a completely different game but the last 2 50 over games vs Pakistan yielded incredibly low scores of 163 and 140
A year earlier in the world cup we racked up scores close to 400
Our batting has fallen off a cliff
Listening to Gilchrist and Waugh talking after the conclusion of the test they were hinting that perhaps Smith and Marnus have lost a bit of their hand/eye coordination and fractions of a second off their reaction time which happens to most of us as we get older .
If that's true they might NEVER get back to their old form
Time for the best of our youth to get a go
Impressed with Henry Hunt as he got 106 in an innings where 6 of his team mates got ducks . Just my gut feel but I think Konstas can also make it !

It won't happen but should happen
For 2nd test I'd drop Labuschagne and Smith
And pick Inglis shield stats 297 runs Ave 99.0 SR 85 ( Impressive )
Konstas shield stats 369 runs Ave 61.5 SR 55 ( good for opener )
McSweeny to 3 Head to 4 and Inglis to 5 Konstas to 2
If no change then result no change !!!

Like I said the other day, I’m sure at least 2 or 3 are eying off next summer as their swan song. Whether they make it though 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔
