of course it will watson once fit has to come in for hussey he isnt performing and it is his time

To be fair, he was easily our best player last summer by a ridiculous margin. He got an absolute howler today.

i completly agree that he got the raw end of the deal for how he got out and was easily the best aussie last year but he doesnt have a lot of things on his side

Cowan and Warner must be retained and form a solid opening partnership
Clarke and Marsh are not going to loose theyre spots even though they probably played the worse shots to get out.
Ponting, Hussey and Haddin are all on the brink of retirement within the next 2 years.
Watson will need to come back into the squad for sure.

it will probably be easier to bring the youngsters in one at a time rather than all at once. the team will more than likely add Khawaja, Watson and a keeper to the current squad. plus with watsons ability to bowl more overs him batting down the order will allow him greater time to recover and therefore bowl more overs.

but one main concern will be all these injuries our players have

Harris, Marsh, Johnson, Cummins, Paine and Watson have all spent time out injured this year which is not good for continuity.

The more settled the side is and the sooner that happens the better. Hussey will be very lucky to be retained despite his heroics in the past

its funny how this time last year Hussey was our 'saviour'. He wasn't that at all, it just so happened that he was the only Batsman in form. The Australian public show zero loyalty to the players. 12 months ago Hussey was the man, now people are calling for his head. Perfect example is David Warner. Right now he's the flavour of the month, but just wait till he gets a couple failures and the Aussie faithull will be calling for his head to

the way i see it is more of a case of watson will come back in no doubt about it. Hussey is on the older side of things and while he isnt performing it is hard to see who else watson will come in for

He'll come in for Marsh mate…pure and simple.

When this series is over we may see some retirements and the new blokes will get their chance then, but i think the side needs these old blokes to beat the Indians and that is a goal I would love to see them achieve.

if marsh was going to be the one to miss out he wouldnt have been pushed so hard to play this match and it would of been a straight swap for christian. i feel marsh is someone that the selectors like and to push him so hard to prove his fitness for this match only for him to be dropped once watson comes back in could be next test would be rather pointless

Surely they can't drop Marsh, he was fantastic in his few tests before his injury, one failure and he's out? Come on, that's ridiculous. The selectors need to know when to move players on, especially those who clearly don't know when to, or don't want to. Hopefully they persist with Cowan for more than 1-2 poor scores, he was very Katich like today, it was good to see an opener survive the first session for a change.

My last post for memory was about how well Michael Hussey was playing back after our successful tour of Sri Lanka, since then, he's gone 5 tests without scoring over 50…Will he retire on his on terms, or will the selectors force him into it? Interesting times ahead, as for Ponting, I'm happy to have him there as long as he's scoring runs. Today's innings was good, he was as comfortable as I've seen him for a good 4-5 years against a reasonable attack.

Pretty decent day for the Australians, 6-276, with the potential for this Siddle-Haddin partnership to take the game away from the Indians. 2 dud decisions didn't help the cause either, inexplicable why the DRS system wasn't employed.

simple reason …. india did not want it and they run international cricket. the icc is a pathetic joke really.

Nothing wrong with the IICC

Indian and International Cricket Council
As long as they get their way its all OK

Hussey is the leading the runscorer for us over the last 12 months.

He was our best bat by a mile in the Ashes, he was man of the match in all 3 games vs Sri Lanka, so he had 4 bad tests and everyone wants to flick him. Surely Mike Hussey has earnt to have a bad run of 4 tests.

I agree Goose, I've been on here for 3 years now and 3 on the last forum as well. Every summer people come out and bag Huss and every year he shows them up.

The bloke is class and is not finished yet.

Should be an interesting morning. I can see the tail eeking out another 50 to 60 runs. Anything over 350 will make it hard for India i thnk. I'm just not sold on India's batting. The batting line-up is a little on the old side. The only saving grace they'll have is that they don't have to face the type of attacks they have had to face from the Aussies in the past

Can see Siddle getting his fifty this morning Hopefully if he can hang around with Haddin for at least an hour we can get 350 which should be competitive

Barring bad weather we will definitely see a result

hussey has deserved for sure to get a chance to go through a spell of bad form but i dont see anyone else being left out for watson upon his return.

1\. Warner - scored a century last match can take a game away from an opponent in a matter of overs.
2\. Cowan - started out very solid and looks to have the goods at crafting and knuckling out an innings
3\. Marsh - If Marsh was going to be dropped for watson why would of they pushed so hard for him to be playing this test match and potentially ruin his back even further. they could of easily played dan christian and made it a straight swap
4\. Ponting - scored 3 50's in his last 5 test matches. looks to be getting his form back
5\. Clarke - Captain and obviously won't be dropped
6\. Hussey - Has gone through a spell of bad form and luck more than likely won't be with the squad for the future.

watson will come back in but if cowan is injured then he could the one that gives way.

on a side note sehwag taking the game to the aussies but has been dropped twice by hussey and haddin australia bowlers have been very unlucky not to have had both sehwag and dravid out on more than one occasion

Really? I hope we can keep them under 400\. Hopefully you know something i dont

Unfortunately I dont think you do…they are playing exactly as expected. Could be a long long summer for our bowlers. These blokes are all in form.
