To be fair quite a few guys have made between 50 and 80 in this game. Apart from him and Ponting nobody has made double figures. Yep we're two veterans away from another sub-50 innings…
That must have been some batting camp...

What does Langer teach these guys? Seriously, ever since he's been given a job our batting has turned to crap.

Certainly not footwork. Never seen so many inside edges and flailing shots in my life. Some of them seem to think they're playing 20/20 where footwork is an optional extra…

I'm sure the knives will be out for someone by the time Watson is due back, especially if they lose this test. The Aussie public alwayz need to drop somebody after a loss

i dont think u can say that. watson is the vice captain of the team. and has been the best player for the last 2 years prior to his injury.

would people on here be calling for someone to be dropped if it was benji and not watson that was returning from injury

Not sure what you mean. I'm not saying he shouldn't be back, i'm saying by the time he is due back, somebodies head will most probably be on the chopping block like it usually is with the fickle, disloyal Aussie public

I'm not sure you can say that when you consider the outrage when Katich was dropped, and that a 38 year old is still in the side despite not scoring a century for 2 years and has only averaged 36 since India last toured here 4 years ago.

If anything the selectors have been too loyal in recent years, it backfired with Marcus North and it has backfired with Johnson too. It backfired with Hussey who had a long bare patch until 2 good series against England and Sri Lanka before losing it again

This is what Chris Cairns alluded too a few weeks ago, selectors had a ruthlessness about them but in recent years it has been conservative and out of form players have been given too much of a run in the side for not enough in return.

When the likes of Slater, M Waugh, Boon, Taylor and alike were moved on from either the test or ODI, the selectors could be ruthless, they had a number of players knocking the door down demanding selection, when we brang in the the likes of Lehman, Love, Langer, Hayden, Martyn, Elliot etc, we knew they would come in and do the job, it was only a matter of how much they'd excell. They had scored loads of runs year on year in shield and county cricket.

At the moment the next tier of batsman are blokes like ferguson who has 5 first class hundreds. (if you exclude Katich, D Hussey, White and Klinger who wont get a look in despite being the best first class performers

We even have blokes in the side who are yet to prove themselves at first class level, Dave Warner is in good form but only has about 8 first class matches to his name and 3 first class hundreds, 1 of which was against Zimbabwe. I m not against selecting Warner, given there is no one else putting pressure on, it is tough to be ruthless with proven performers when no one else is sticking there hand up.

Punter now has 5 half centuries in the last 6 tests or something.

Hussey was our leading runscorer in 2010 and will now finish 2011 as our leading runscorer as well, and people want to drop him.

IMO they have both done enough to stay in the team.

I'm not talking about the selectors, i'm talking about the average punter on the street. There is zero loyalty to the players from the Aussie public when a player is struggling. They will turn on players at the drop of a hat. Whenever they lose it can't be accepted that they were beaten by a better team, its alwayz because a certain player was left out being the reason for the loss. Example was last yr during the Ashes. England made 1 for 500-odd in the second innings, and the selectors copped it because they had left out Bollinger. Like as if Bollinger would made a differene in an attack that conceded 1 for 500\. The public got their way, and he came back for the second test, and the attack was still pop gun. My point is, go through every single match the Aussies have lost in the last few yrs, and i gaurentee you, you won't find one loss that hasn't resulted in someones head being called for

good start by the aussies on day 4\. hussey fell shortly after the resumption making 89 by pattinson and hilfenhaus put on 50 between them to set india 292 for the win. very good target.

sehwag gone early as well which helps to a screamer of a catch from hussey.

Watson won't be playing in the sydney test so the batting line up will be the same but harris is reportedly going to come back in for someone but who makes way is anyones guess

even if fit, do you bring Harris straight in?? Pattinson and Siddle would be extremely hard done by to be dropped on their summer performances, Hilfy is prob favourite for MOM at present, he'd be hopeful to keep his spot after that…

In my opinion Dravid is the big wicket If we can get him out cheaply it will put huge pressure on Tendulkar and Laxman to win them the game

i reckon this could be a ripper of a Test match finish

personally i wouldn't pick harris he probably wont last the five days anyway. the bowlers have done tremendously well with both bat and ball and probably the only reason we are in this match. considering they put on around 150 with the bat and allowed us to get two very competitive totals.

dravid is the key as he is someone they build their innings around. he will face around 1/2 of the balls that they play and let the more flamboyant batsmen like tendulkar score the runs. he is no mug considering he is the second highest run scorer in history so if we can get him soon we will have a great chance.

the lack of drs has been controversial but seems to even itself out. i wouldnt be surprised if india fall to the pressure mid series and implement before the last test

Tendulkar is agaisnt the DRS, whilst he is around, they wont play under the DRS.

Their top 5 are all so good, they all worry me, Dravid is so hard to get out, if we bowl well it is a very tough chase, but this order are so good, they are every chance

Laxman worries me more, he just seems to score so many runs in the 4th innings, especially in the last 3 or 4 years.

pressure is now on for india they need laxman and tendulkar to stay in for an extended period. the pace attack are bowling super well and being supported in the field to add the pressure

Should be an interesting morning. I can see the tail eeking out another 50 to 60 runs. Anything over 350 will make it hard for India i thnk. I'm just not sold on India's batting. The batting line-up is a little on the old side. The only saving grace they'll have is that they don't have to face the type of attacks they have had to face from the Aussies in the past

^^^^

You will probably all disagree with me but i'm just gonna say it anyway. Aussie or not, James Pattinson seems like a douchebag

Way to bounce back from a loss to New Zealand, huge win over the Indians. Props to our quicks for their performances in both innings and to Hussey and Ponting for their batting in the second inning to get us to a defendable total.

Not to mention Pattinson and Siddle, without their contributions in both innings, India could have well walked away with it.
