We had them 4/30 in the 6th over then 14th and 25the overs we got wickets. I’m guessing it gets easier to score runs after the ball starts to wear. We need to hang in there, we can come home stronger.

He could not even middle one ball
Our selectors have tried to pick an ODI side from BBL stars
Two different games
Also understand many of our best have opted out
Starc I understand but Cummins and others I don't
 
Hard to believe but true
We had them at one point 8-135 and our bowlers ran out of puff
So they get 214
Now we are 4-31
Could be one of our biggest losses ever !
No Head , Marsh , Inglis , Maxwell , Cummins , Starc ,Hazelwood
Plus retirees Warner and Stoinis
Seems no one interested in ODI cricket
Much more money playing 20/20

That’s a real shame.
20/20 is trash.
 
Watching cricket on 7 is 2nd rate
Looking at 50 over side full of 20 over stars is 2nd rate
Seeing LIV golf ads about them " being the best golfers in the world " is very annoying as it is definitely 2nd rate
These guys sold their souls for hundreds of millions and want to have their cake and eat it too

Feels like a large portion of our ODI crew is missing/injured. At a domestic level it feels like there is so much emphasis on test and BBL that One-dayers have fallen by the wayside. Not many out and out one day players anymore to replace the main squad when injured or on break.

No one in the one day cup is doing anything outstanding. Renshaw, Phillipe and Gilkes leading the run scorer list, seeming to do fairly decent. Phillipe also a good player of spin from memory.

At least Matt Short scored 80 in his only game (but was no good against Pakistan). Fraser-McGurk scored 2. Surely you can’t keep picking him. He had ONE good innings in the BBL out of like 10. Same as Matt Short. If someone fails time after time again what is the point in keeping on selecting them. Fraser-McGurk had that one crazy 100 off 29, but nothing notable since.

Connolly same thing. Very good in BBL at least but not shown much in one day cup or first grade.

Also out of the bowlers the only one who I could find having played a once day cup game was Spencer Johnson who took one 4fa and a nonefa. I am a fan of Ellis though, very smart bowler.

At the very least we are missing, Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, Head, Marsh, Green, Inglis but outside of those and a couple in this team there is really not many options. Test team has probably at least 15 who could be in the team and some others coming up which is great. Plenty of options in T20 as well particularly bowlers but ODI depth looks fairly dire.

I'm worried Steve ...how are you going to be if we lose the Pre Season Cup .....losing a one dayer with only 3 starters isn't the end of the world

Pre season cup don't care much
Game 1 vs Newcastle at Campbelltown is a different matter
As Australian cricket fan I want to win every game Test or ODI
In fact its 20/20 I don't care so much and further I feel this smash and bash game is ruining cricket but appeals to all the "bucket heads " who were not originally cricket fans
With so many missing im not sure CA are serious about the Champions Trophy

They have snubbed their noses at it.
I would like to know now if they will be serious about the WTC game? Will they pick the strongest team and will they players be ready to play or underdone?

Seems a bit like Pat ,Josh and Mitch resting on their laurels a bit
Of these I thought Mitch who hadn't missed a thing until our disaster in Colombo last night was really looking worn out
Its a pity our next gen of batters and bowlers are so in tune with 20 over cricket not 50 over cricket
We still have a chance I guess in Pakistan if Head ,Smith ,Inglis and Carey really fire but our bowlers have to be fit for 10 overs not 4
After that its the WTC at lords in June and hoping our big three quicks and Boland are ready and firing

You can only suspect that he has ruffled the feathers of some of the old brigade with his on and off field carryon.
Weve seen it happen a bit over the years. He is the new target.

Yeah, that's two 50 over centuries on the trot for Sam (1st vs India for Aus A). I reckon he's very well suited to the 50 over format.

Really do not understand the buzz around having Connolly or JFM in this 50 over side.
- Connolly in List A averages 16.71 with the bat (HS: 42) and 56.66 with the ball. Maybe the selectors accidentally muddled these stats and thought he average 56 with the bat and 16 with the ball. Also in ODI he's bowled 3 overs (in 3 games) to take no wickets so clearly being used as a batter, except he is averaging 10 with a highscore of 7*.
- JFM at least averages 26 in List A but only 14 in ODI (32 in domestic one day), but this is still fairly low. He has only scored 1 century and 1 50 in 23 List A innings.

Purely based off the stats that these two have, in particular Connolly it makes no sense why Sam isn't in the team after his 100 against India. Admittedly the only List A game he'd played before that he scored 10 so perhaps the selectors were waiting for more performances but then it wouldn't make sense in picking Connolly or JFM. These guys need to be dropped ASAP.

It's pretty evident the selectors are making some poor decisions around the ODI team after our Pakistan and Sri Lanka losses and there is far more emphasis on T20 than ODI by the players and Cricket Australia.
