Johnson has been woeful for a while now, time for him to go in my books. I am still wondering what it was I ever saw in North, he's dead set ordinary.

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke (Fergy in for him if he's not right for the game)
Hussey (moves to 4 if Clarke is out for game 2)
Smith
Haddin
Doherty
Siddle
Hilfy
Dougie

I agree, except Khawaja for injured Clarke.

Same team in the 2nd test IMO. No changes except maybe move Haddin up the order before North.

I saw some highlights of North and geeze he looks SOLID!. I'm ready to give this bloke another chance but I'm not a selector. Johnson has been underperforming for a while but maybe he could be replaced by Bollinger, **but IMO Johnson deserves another chance. So, same team for me.**

****
There's part of the problem. Besides Doherty, this has been the same team since the last Ashes. They have had enough chances already imo.

My main point is you can go around making heaps of changes after one test. The team picked for this test was considered as "best" options available. Now, there will be opinions about who you think is good or bad.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not a fan of pick, try, fail, go home kinda attitude that most people have. I hope they stay to the same team for the 2nd test and don't make wholesale changes. I have absolutely no doubt that the England team will not be changed AT ALL. and thats the consistency that has won Australia so many games.

The England side won't be changed because they all contributed in some way. There was no Johnsons (0 wickets for the match, going at 4 an over) or Norths (1 run and 1 wicket) in their side. Also, England haven't bumbled their way into this Ashes on the back of a series loss against India, and a tied series against Pakistan (who try and lose games). The XI we are carrying is mediocre, and it's time to look at bettering it.

Alien's Aust side for 2nd test if all fit:

1\. Katich
2\. Hughes
3\. Ponting
4\. Clarke
5\. Hussey
6\. Watson
7\. Haddin
8\. Smith
9\. Harris
10\. Siddle
11\. Bollinger

Dougie B took 3/32 off 20 against WA today
Ryan Harris took match figures of 6/68 off 34 (4/41 off 21 and 2/27 off 13)

Definitely putting the pressure on Johnson, Hilf and Siddle to perform, although can't see Dougie getting a gig in the 2nd test starting Friday with his Shield game going through till Wednesday, Harris has to be in contention though.

Dougie and Harris have been called into the squad.
Aus games take priority over Shield games and if the selectors want, they can pull him out of the Shield game at any time.
Its happened before, a few years ago, I cant remember who the player was though.

1.katich
2.hughes / jacques ( one of these two is 12th man )
3.ponting
4.hussey
5\. khawaja
6\. watson
7.haddin
8.smith - poms dont like leggies !
9.harris
10.bollinger
11.copeland
at least we will have aggressive bowlers, not economical, boring toilers !

it wont happen, but fair'dinkum …. johnson, what is the big deal about the ' michael ennis ' of cricket as in most overated player. and yeh siddle got that hat trick but otherwise can anyone seriously say that he is the type of bowler that takes wickets regularly and could win a game... i dont think so ! hilf has had more chances than is warranted and he should be back in shield cricket along with siddle and johnson. clarke is obviously injured and needs a break.

be bold oz selectors, be aussie and haveago with something new and different before the horse and ashes has bolted !

Khawaja must be a big chance of replacing North soon if he makes a ton in Perth and North fails in the 2nd test. Smith just isn't a good enough leg spin bowler at this stage.

Judging on the first test, it will be a real struggle for either side to take 20 wickets.

Australia managed to score 588 runs for the loss of 11 wickets so the poms aren't too flash in the bowling department either.

I see Stevie Smith steadied the near top order collapse by coming in at second drop and posting 70 (the Uzi hit 55,) in the Sheffield match between WA & NSW. Bolly took 3/32 off 20 in WA's 1st innings. He's taking wickets and bowling economically. No wonder everyone in Australia has such a bleak outlook on the result of the ashes.

Bolly in for Johnson and Smith in for North. He couldn't possibly do any worse with the bat, and as someone rightly pointed out, they struggle with flighty leggies.

Some of the ground curators need an upper-cut for creating these ridiculously batting-friendly wickets!!

The rulers of the game believe batting is their most marketable ingredient and have ensured that over the past 20 years wickets have become increasingly orientated to assisting the batsmen! This needs to change if Test cricket is to survive…

Looks like Johnson will be dropped for Bollinger.

Also Hauritz took 5/39 off 27 overs to finish with 7 for the match at the WACA.
Only 1 of those 7 wickets was a tailender too.

Fantastic start by the Aussies with 3/2.

Katich - Golden
Ponting - Golden
Clarke - 2

Here's hoping Hussey and Haddin are up for another 300 odd run partnership… Hope Harris is feeling useful today as well.

FMD!

Kat got a diamond duck.

Boys scratched to 245 thanks to Watson, Hussey & Haddin. Some great bowling and dumb running between the wickets means the Aussies must come back on day 2\. Early wickets will be crucial. Pitch it up there and give yourself a chance like Anderson did.

This is what you get when the selectors allow mediocraty in our batting line up now let's see what the bowlers can do and let's not forget that it is important to take catches…..
