Merv was sacked as a selector, so he didnt pick this side.
At the moment it is Jamie Cox, David Boon, Andrew Hilditch and Greg Chappell…. Notice how, barring Chappell they are all opening batsman? No wonder they can't identify the right bowlers for our side!

But you two are right, I can't belive the inconsistency/hypocrisy of these selections!
They didnt want to mess with an out of form middle order because it has been our middle order for so long, yet they select Doherty and Siddle who I believe are inferior bowlers to the guys they replaced.

They talk about experience when keeping Hussey and North whilst dropping Hughes and not picking Khawaja, yet that means nothing when they pick Doherty.
They talk about technical issues when they dropped Hughes yet both Hussey and North have technical issues with Hussey playing spin/not knowing his off stump and North outside off stump. Ponting has had a technical problem with his front foot his whole career but has worked around it. Even Watson and Katich had problems with LBW when they began as openers, but they were given a shot.

Our best bowler Bollinger gets a bowl in the Shield after his injury, yet it is seen as not enough to pick him, meanwhile Clarke was going to be given until the toss to be declared fit, he probably still isnt 100% now.
Siddle has also spent nearly a year out with injury, but that is seen as more favourable then Bollinger missing a few weeks.

And then as has been said before, they retain an out of form Hussey and North for a couple of years, yet they drop the likes of Hughes and Hauritz after a couple of bad games. Plus Bollinger for no real reason!
 
i probably dont watch as much state cricket as most of you guys but if my memory is correct smith bowled well when he played test cricket, even if it was only a couple of games…

Good to see, even if one wicket was a tailender, he took out Bell who was really doing the damage. I'm not convinced Hauritz would have even picked up a wicket.

Glad to see the three out of the four part-time shower-dodgers in Strauss & Prior didn't last more than three and one ball respectively and Trott scored less than thirty.

The Saffa rule that the poms have truly make a joke of playing for Queen and country.

Bollinger was fit to go but they dropped him for insufficient match fitness, which is laughable when he played the last round of shield matches, whereas Siddle (who is recovering from a long term injury), did not.
 
Siddle stepped-up. He got all his wickets from fuller balls. Thats no coincidence but it is unlike Siddle. Well done to him.

Johnson was below par. I will never forgot his unbelievable form in South Africa with bat and ball and his ridiculously poor form in the last Ashes series following. How someone could lose form like that, I don't know how?. I hope its not a repeat.
 
Johnson had to be in the side, in the last round of shield games he took a 5 wicket haul and scored a 100\. That said, if he doesn't step up here or in Adelaide, he'll be lucky to make the Perth test.
 
I wasnt expecting that from Siddle.
I knew he would do a job but I did not think he deserved to be in ahead of Bollinger.
Hopefully he can keep it up though.
I didnt see the game today but judging by the figures, hopefully Johnson can pick up some form.
 
the selectors must have thought if bollinger played he risked picking up a big injury. he would have been first bowler picked otherwise
 
Good on ya Siddle…those knocking him look like complete fools now!!!!

I never ever knock players in the Australian cricket team because they are all freaks who can do amazing things on their day and when you criticize you inevitably are made to look silly.

I've just gone back through the preceding 10 pages and had a great laugh at some of the ridiculous armchair heroics from some of you. To say that some of you were completely wrong would be an understatement.

Happy for him to prove me wrong, hopefully he can continue to play good cricket for the whole series. Lets hope North and Huss can do the same (not holding my breath though).

I still believe Dougy got a stiff deal.
 
Dougy will get his shot and will carve them up.

Siddle has that fire in the belly that I like. Its invaluable in a confrontational situation such as the Ashes.

North and Huss are most probably on their last legs but I wouldnt write them off either….

At the end of the day I couldnt give a crap who is in the side....they are my team and I'll always back them. We're playing the poms for gods sakes....lets SMASH THEM.

P.S...how exciting was that hatrick? I bet the third guy has some sore toes lol.

Was well deserved. He was going for less than 2.5 runs per over most of the match and was well rewarded.

Bollinger should have been in for Johnson if anyone… He topped the run count and economy rate and was the only quick to not take a single wicket.

I'm happy for him to prove me wrong, but he's looking to be struggling with his line and variety.
