Doug Bollinger named as twelth man earlier today. Beer will get the chance to make his debut

great call selectors ?? this means we now have to endure watching the same pathetic impotent bowling from siddle and johnson again, OMG !!

yeah i probably would drop katich..if this is a rebuilding stage i would..he is 35 probably only has 18 months left anyway..leave hughes there bring usman in down the order for experience until ponting goes in about 2 years and probably ferguson aswell for hussey when he goes

future

hughes
watson
usman
clarke
ferguson
haddin/paine
smith

then the fast bowlers

I know that this is really early to make the call, but geeze thats a weak looking test lineup.

IMO a fit Bollinger is the 1st bowler picked.
I'm surprised Hilfenhaus continually gets picked, lumbers in next to the umpire, bowls an away swinger, the batsman lets it go.
All he does is get the batsman set.

Greg Chappell needs to go - he is the worst selector in Australian history & his own brother thinks he's a moron!

(I know Hilditch is chairman - but since Greg returned he has his fingerprints all over these infuriating left-field selections!)

Just look at his previous stint as selector - he always pulls a dead rabbit out of his rectum - Chris Matthews anybody??????

This time - Doherty - then Beers + no Hauritz or Bollinger suggests he could not rank a bowler's worth to save his life!!!

Does anyone consider Johnson a swing bowler? I personally don't and I find it utterly rubbish to pick both Johnson and Siddle in the same game. Although, they both may be one of the best bowlers in the country but IMO there is no space for these 2 in the same team.

I am going to the SCG tomorrow hoping to be the eternal optimist and it will be nice if there aren't any poms sitting nearby.

Hope it keeps raining - our only hope…..

That's the last thing I want. Australia needs to start rebuilding ASAP and if they don't get to play this whole test, that would mean more time for Khawaja, Beer, Hughes etc. to start developing.

3-1 or 2-1, personally doesn't make a difference unless it's a draw without rain.

Just enjoy the day mate!!

I went to the final day of a Test at the SCG (many years ago) and saw Waqar younis & Wasim Akram destroy us before lunch!

Thankfully I was drinking full-strength beers & G&Ts from the Members Stand (as a guest)!!

It was great cricket from the less-corrupt Pakis at that time - and I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle of bowlers of that calibre plying their trade!

My favourite game in that period was the New Years Day One-Day match in either 1994 or 95 that saw Michael Bevan hit a 4 off the last ball to win! Carl Hooper killed it with both bat & ball that game - while Paul Reiffel also had an amazing match (runs, wickets & catches)!!!

I agree wholeheartedly!!!

Rebuilding, wishful thinking…...
can't help thinking this could just get more embarrassing

i've made my own allusions to moving deckchairs on the Titanic!!

Re-building is not an inappropriate term - as total re-construction is required!

The short-term fufure does look particularly dim however…. (blame the AFL for throwing money at kids who fail in that sport but are unable to return to their original love!!!)

Good start by the boys in this 2nd test. Hughes was looking good. A lapse of concentration cost him. Watson hasn't found it easy. He needs to rotate the strike a little more. It releases pressure of himself and his partner and just keeps the scoreboard ticking over. The problem for him though is his calling has been poor and has run-out his fellow opener twice. Khawaja has looked good. He has defended with soft hands which has meant some edges have fallen short. Looks to have all the shots.

Solid showing by Khawaja on debut, hopefully he can back it up in the second dig, he handled it all pretty well I thought. He would make a much better 4 than Clarke should Ponting hang around for another year or so, and he is probably the best option to bat at 3 after Punter goes, no matter how badly Clarke wants the gig.

Rugby League isn't the only sport that demetriou wants to bury. Shame since AFL owes it's existence to cricket.

One positive so far, we have found the permanent no.3 for a long time.

Khawaja has such a good technique. And also, the way he left the balls alone show his maturity as well.

As Tony Greig or someone said: "Temperament and Technique"

Good to see the crowd get right behind him too.

I think he just showed what the majority of the fans already knew, a good temperament and technique. Most fans wanted him in the side ahead of North before the series started, sometimes the fans know more then what the selectors and head office like to think.

With the weather expected to stay like this for most of the test, I think anything above 250 will be a competitive score.
