Cricket Season Thread

Great knock by Shaun Marsh tonight 99* off 52, helped Perth run down 188\. He'll add a lot for the Aussies against India.

Just on this game for a moment, is there a bigger myth in Australian sport than Shaun Tait? The guy can bowl fast, but that's all he has going for him, he gets tonked very frequently and struggles to string more than 5 games together, even only playing T20 cricket.

Actually Yoss I think he is a better bowler when he can get it to move off the deck a bit

When he does manage to get it to swing it is from the hand and usually not late which is far more dangerous

I'd say his bigger issue is when he swings the ball his control is lacking. As much as it us nice to see the curve of the ball, if doesn't really help when he pitches a metre outside off.

Being a swing bowler at Hilfenhaus pace shouldn't worry any top class batsman and the Indians have a few of them

No doubt after saying that he will probably get 6 for in an innings at 10 plus for the match and get the MOM award

Swing (and seam) bowling at any decent pace can be effective but it requires control. Alderman and McGrath were able to swing and seam (respectively) the ball to good effect because their control was superb. Alderman's most dangerous ball was the one that went straight on and got the LBW.

Sorry Yoss you are getting me wrong I totally agree that Hilfy 's line strays but I would prefer a good seam bowler over a good swing bowler

If he had more pace the swing whether it strayed or not would be more effective but the batsman has more time to see it is a bad ball especially seeing most of Hilfy's balls swing from the hand

I was having that exact same thought! The most over rated bowler in the game imo.
Playing only 20/20s is not going to improve his fitness and injuries. It just means his body has gone from being the fitness standard of a shield bowler down to the fitness standard of a 20/20\. His injuries wont go away playing just 20/20s.

Robbie Farah was in the Thunder's dug-out tonight. I'm pretty sure he's the Thunder's 'ambassador'. Between Warnie and the other stars who have come out of retirement and from overseas, and these so-called ambassadors each side has, the BBL is nothing more the just one giant publicity stunt

It'll be over before we know it, and then the footy will be back….**anyone know if walk up tix can be bought to these games**.....we were gunna go last night but completely slipped my mind

It may be so, but I am already finding this series more enjoyable than seasons prior. The addition of the extra two sides has meant alot more players can showcase themselves. Farah was obviously there for his best mate Dan Smith.

How good was Chris Gayle last night? Even when he didn't middle the ball it still went for six!

Agreed, I thought the event would tank, but it's done quite well. Domestic cricket in Australia needed some kind of an overhaul and I find it to be a welcome change.

Gayle was unbelievable, I get that T20 cricket isn't for everyone, but even the biggest T20 bagger would have found that entertaining.

There were 11,000 last night so I'm sure you'd have no drama getting a ticket at the ground - can't imagine they'd be turning away walk-ups… Attendances haven't been what CA were hoping for this far but Gayle will be a big drawcard after last night.

I'm actually finding it more entertaining watching highlights of the 1977 Centenary test despite knowing the result :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeh thanks yoss after thinking about it after posting I came to the same conclusion….fair prices too with tix starting at only $20- GA Adult....$5 for kids

Australia off to a relatively good start. Warner got sucked into a short ball, but Cowan and Ponting stabilising the innings. They just need to be be patient and the runs will come.

Cowan looks very good out there, as is Ponting. Marsh and Warner both played dumb shots to get out I thought. Hopefully these 2 can add a lot more, amazing what happens when you have an opener who lets the rubbish go rather than nicking it.

Ponting out. Big partnership here. If Cowan and Clarke can put on close to 100 we'll be in a strong position but lose another wicket and it could be another middle order collapse.

three wickets in a cluster again by the australians. 6/216 now with haddin and siddle in fresh at the crease. got to be something said about the decisions to remove hussey and cowan not out as far as im concerned and if the indians could man up and say drs can be used then we wouldnt have this problem

Well the middle order collapsed, but thanks to the idiot ACB bending over and allowing no DRS we've copped two BS decisions. You watch the proverbial hit the fan if it happens to India…

of course it will watson once fit has to come in for hussey he isnt performing and it is his time

To be fair, he was easily our best player last summer by a ridiculous margin. He got an absolute howler today.
