I'm sure the knives will be out for someone by the time Watson is due back, especially if they lose this test. The Aussie public alwayz need to drop somebody after a loss

*insert Shaun Marsh's name here*

The Aussie public maybe yes, the ACB selectors prefer to offer several lives it's not easy to get dropped from the Aussie cricket team, having said that, if they want to find a spot for Watson, their job has been made easier.

Don't rule out Cowan making way.It would just be a straight swap with no change to the batting order. Warner is lucky he made that century against the Kiwi's otherwise he'd be under pressure as well

Cowan was unlucky IMO. If the Indians refuse to use DRS we need to go back to the batsmen getting the benefit of the doubt. I really annoys me that the ICC allow themselves to be held to ransom by the BCCI. The DRS should be compulsory and if Indian refuse then ban them!!! It may not be 100% accurate but because the laws of cricket are cut and dry the system works. As long as cricket does not go down the path of Rugby League and start using terms such as video refs discretion it will work. IMO the 2 sports are a perfect example of one that is suited to video refs and one that is not.

Patto looks like a superstar in the making. Big, strong, agressive, he is a genuine wicket taker and can more than adequately wield the willow as well. As a 21 year old he sure is supplying some confidence to the team.

Our top order really need to settle down and find their rythm before scoring runs. They have failed again. Not sure what the go is with Marsh but he is a far better player than what he is currently showing. Ricky and pup to score tons tomorrow with the Huss backing them up. Should end up with a good first innings lead….hopefully an unasailable one.

Gotta say I'm not upset to see Sachin fail again...should have taken that 100 in canberra instead of retiring...he will be playing more and more under pressure as the series goes on as he really wants to score it against us. Could be a terrible team decision I suspect.

Went with my good mate (he is Indian) today, so I am really happy with the days play. I thought Hilfy bowled incredibly well and was really unlucky, although he did get 3 he probably deserved 5\. Patto also was very good. Siddle picked up some handy wickets and worked hard. I was actually disappointed to see Tendulkar get out, he was looking in decent nick up until then, I thought he'd go all the way if he didn't run out of partners. Hopefully Punter and Clarke can rack up centuries and we can put ourselves into a winning position tomorrow. I think a 250-300 run lead after the first innings is a real possibility if these 2 keep it going tomorrow.

We struggle to make it happen after a break in play, but if there's anyone who can do it, it's Ponting. Been looking sharp lately, hopefully his resolve hasn't completely abandoned him and he can dig in and get that elusive ton. Clarke is looking the goods as well.

These 2 and Hussey can do it I think. If Ponting and Clarke keep it together through till lunch tomorrow we're in a great spot, then you get Hussey and Haddin coming in with no pressure on them (both could do with a scernario like that) and they are allowed to play their natural games. Our tail is pretty handy as well these days. Barring a collapse tomorrow we're in a great spot to win this one.

If Punter gets past the seventies tomorrow, I reckon he'll make 150\. Clarke looks set to make the ton as well.

Having said that, I hope I haven't put the mocker on them.

Hope you're right but as you suggested we have issues with re-starting again in these situation. First hour will be critical. If they are both still there and in the 70s (and with us in the lead) they might settle in for tons.

As soon as I type that… timber! 2/8 Marsh out.

Wanted: 1 spine. Please contact the Australian top order

Still not convinced by Shaun Marsh at test level. He's starting to do what he does at 1st class level. Looks great when he's in form but fails a lot. Big test for the Rickster at his home test.

Khawaja must be scratching his head as to why he got dropped for Marsh - at least UK looks like he is going to get some runs.

Marsh was very consistent to he got injured… you miss out in 1 and half tests and blokes call for your head!

He has got more consistent with age at first class level, and has now strung 3 very good first class seasons together, he has been very good in recent years in short term games for Australia and in the IPL, BBL etc.

3 tests ago he scored 100 on debut, he followed up with an excellent hard fought 80 under pressure, then in the innings that Clarke scored the lone hand 100, Marsh played the only other innings of substance, an hard fought 40, given the situation, it was worth much more. He got injured in the second innings.

He than gets fit hits an amazing 99 in a BBL game to get the nod.

batting is a fickle thing. even good players miss out, 3 innings (4 if you count the one when he batted at 10 injured) is nothing and does not warrent dropping a player that has been groomed for 3 seasons to come into the team.

Seems the pressure is now off Ponting and Hussey, and moves onto Marsh.

We are actually going ok in a lot of respects right now, winning in Sri Lanka and drawing in Sth Africa is pretty good, and we are going well against India.

the 100 in Canberra would not count, he is going for 100 international 100's i.e ODI and Test….the game in Canberra was just a first class game not an international game.

the same pressure would apply.

It is actually the longest he has gone without a Ton now. mind you 17 innings is hardly a long time for a mortal, show you how consistent he has been.

out and out champion, controversially I always rated Lara higher, mind you Sachin longevity prob takes him ahead these days.

No 3 is the most crucial position in the batting lineup - Marsh was picked solely on past performances and has been rushed back in underdone. It has been shown that runs in mickey mouse games do not guarantee similar form at test level - Marsh may well be the answer at 3 in the long run but his technique and form are way too rusty at the moment.

The way I see it currently, we're carrying players every game who do not fire, so it would be tragic to drop someone who has been consistent up until getting injured, and returning a bit rusty. Unfortunately, there's no First Class matches on ATM for him to get up to speed, so T20 was the only viable option. Gauging his performance in a T20 game as a measure for his suitability for a return to the Test team was ridiculous, to say the least.

I say we persisted with Marcus North for 18 months, so it's only fair that every other batsman in the team gets the same professional courtesy.

Still there at drinks. I don't think Ponting will have too many dramas with his concentration - if he gets there the next 31 runs will be some of the sweetest of his career.
