Cricket Season Thread

I"M sure the money would be a major factor in there decision as it would be anyones but i'm also sure that they know the difference in when they are having a bad run or when they are past it. Don't forget they now have the IPL to make their retirement money. I personally couldn't handle the pressure that they would be under all the time from everyone. I think that not many people get to play cricket for their country ( i think we are only up to 400 and something in over a hundred years) so let the true Champions play on. True champions have sacrificed more then most people know so let them have their glory.( Only true champions like Ricky and Sachin.)

Thought I'd have a quick squiz to see when the 20/20 game is on tonight and I see at 2.00 on Channel 9 we have a womans 20/20 game on between Australia and the Sheep Lovers

Was wondering if anyone knows whether this game is live and wondering what everyones thoughts are on Womans international cricket on a major TV channel and how they think it will rate ??

Good idea to promote Womans's Cricket this way in my opinion

According to cricinfo there is a women's 20/20 game on today so almost certainly it is that match being telecast live. Good move by Ch 9 - they're already there with cameras so it is very cheap TV. If it was a stand alone telecast (i.e. they had to set up just for the women's game) it would not be on a major network.

Sad as it may be, female sport rarely rates well on TV which is why it is normally restircted to ABC and Pay-TV. This is a good chance for people to take a look though and 2pm is hardly a timeslot you'd worry about. Will be interesting to see how it rates.

I love the women's cricket, I think they play some good competitive cricket, the Tests they play would be a bit boring considering they score at about 2 an over. But the ODI's and 20/20s are very good.

Ellyse Perry is a top player and a good ambassador for women's cricket.

The Aussie women are struggling… 5/29 after 9 overs and someone made 19 of those!

cricinfo. They aren't doing ball-by-ball so there is no info on what is happening. Now that I check it again it is still the same score. Doesn't sound promising for the later game but I'm in the CBD and it's not raining here…

They must be back on Happy. Cricinfo show the score as 5/68 in the 15th over and it seems to be updating semi-regularly…

Good work by the Aussies in the 20/20…bit of a muck around game but has been reasonably entertaining.

Huge crowd, great atmosphere and a 31 run win.

Steve O'Keefe was good in the box. It's a change from the arrogance he shows on field. Anywho, well done to the Aussies. You know Indian cricket is in despair when they can't put Doherty to the boundary on a regular basis.

Well in lads. Wade for Test keeper.

Why was a winning side changed so much to allow Shaun Marsh - arguably outside the top 20 batsmen available - to be included? Why is this bloke getting such a free ride? He has far more Australian caps then his form deserves.

Magnificent fielding performance from the Indians including 4 runouts. Australias batsmen had very little tonight. Should get flogged….but then again Indias batsmen are pretty aweful.

Meh, a T20 loss is a nothing loss… I'll take a T20 loss over a Test loss any day. Let them have their five minutes in the sun, they played well for 3 hours. Let's see a more sustained effort by their elite players and then they have something to be really excited about.

Although we lost it was good to see India finally fire up. Hopefully they play like that in the one dayers, and we can have a quality contest in that series. Better late than never.

Their elite players, Dravid, Laxman and to a lesser extent Tendulkar are finished. An injection of youth is what they have been lacking for a long time, and i think this tour would have to be the final straw for the Indian selectors. Dhoni has been wanting a change for a while, and I don't blame him. Don't underestimate them in the ODI's, they're the world champions, and some of the young guys playing are some of the most talented young guys in world cricket. I'd say politics would be the reason why guys like Sharma and Raina haven't played test cricket

Yeah agreed. It's entertaining at times but it's hard to take it too seriously. One players has a bad over or two and you're gone.

I totally agree mate.

The Indian class system is heavily entrenched in the cricket dressing room as well though. Greg Chappell found that out the hard way. Dravid still has something to offer. He played very well against England who are the #1 Test team at the moment so I wouldn't say a bad series in Australia is a reason to call for his head yet. Laxman and Tendulkar are a shadow of their former selves however, and I suspect Tendulkar is only hanging around for the 100th ton and to make sure no one ever beats his Test runs record.
