i always fail to get the point of your post.

**if your point is that cricket fans latch onto the flavour of the month, then what's new? that's the same for every sport no matter where you go.**

selectors have to pick a winning side as well as looking forward building a side. all these choppings and changes won't do anyone any good.

__

is watson 100% fit for the 1st test? batting looks very weak if faulker is substituted for watson

Yeah of course, but as i said, the thing that gets me is the way people turn the other cheek when these guys fail and carry on like they should never have been there in the first place.

It happens all the time.

I just don't know why people see Smith as a future captain

He just reminds me of Greg Mo Matthews without all the bling

Bowling or **batting isn't even close to Tests standards**

I'd like to see Bailey play 15-20 Tests before I even thought about him being capable to cope with Test cricket let alone give him the captaincy

he just scored a 100 in the last test against some of the best bowlers in the world no biggy

Until he does it consistently all he is the flavour of the month. I don't know of any sporting team anywhere in the world where a player puts in one performance and everyone crowns him as the second coming of Jesus Christ. We've had a few of them in recent yrs.

Doug Bollinger - Remember Doug the rug? he was that guy who got left out of the first test the last time the Ashes were in Oz and the public put our performance down to the fact he wasn't there. He came back in the second test and did diddly squat, hasn't been seen since and has been conveniently forgotten about

Usman Khawaja - Was being compared to Ricky Ponting before he had even made his debut. Scored 37 in his first test innings and you'd have been mistaken for thinking he'd made 137 the way people carried on

Phil Hughes - Pretty much the same as Khawaja, scored a heap of runs at domestic level and never really took the next step

Atm it appears the saviours are Harris and Smith. The saviour in the bowling ranks usually changes depending on which bowler produced the best figures that week. As for Smith, Happy is spot on, one innings does not make a career let alone a future captain. And the funny thing is, if he does indeed fail, people will complain he should never have been there in the first place. Thats the mentality of the Australian cricket fan, never look at themselves and admit they were wrong about someone they pushed for, just blame the selectors, while latching onto the new flavour of the month and repeating the cycle when they fail as well.

Bit harsh on Harris, has pretty much always stepped up to the plate when fit enough to play.

I'll admit I was wrong about Khawaja, seems to lack the mental "toughness" to make it at international level. I still feel that was partly because he was never afforded the shot that Hughes was. Bollinger is and will always be a preferable option to Mitchell Johnson.

I think that Smith has matured a great deal in the last 18 months and he can kick on. If Warnie pulled his head out of his arse for five minutes he could show him a thing or two with the ball and he could be a decent leggie option as well.

CB I think Warnie's head has been up someone's else arse for a little while now

As for Smith making it as a leggie I'm not so sure , there are plenty of other blokes who could coach him

Maybe what Warne had he can't coach

The best sportsmen and woman rarely make good coaches You can't coach confidence , skill or just having a feeling of what will work

Smith already has the makings of a decent leg spinner. It's just whether he wants to be a bona fide batsman or a batting all rounder that determines his path. I still think Warnie talking tactics and such with him would be great for him to help develop his bowling game.

In any case it won't happen… Warnie has got everything he can get out of the game on the field. He'll just take a backseat, take the commentary roles when they pop up and fling crap from the sidelines.

For a while he seemed to be spending time with the young spinners and then it stopped

Must have been some reason ??

most likely to be sachin's last innings today.

a dead set legend of the game. i think the people outside of the sub continent underestimate sachin's career mainly coz they haven't seen the country during sachin's failures and milestones.
he's had pressure on him to perform since the day he made his debut- as a 16 yo.

i've seen my parents switch the tv off when sachin gets out- and also seen the celebrations on the streets in 2003 when he scored the runs in the WC. proud to have witnessed his career

He's the greatest batsman in the modern era hands down. Only Ponting and Lara would come remotely close. I don't get this hysteria where people turn televisions off or leave the stadium after he gets out though. Cricket is a team sport after all, it takes 22 men to achieve a result.

I would have to say the best cricketer I have seen in my lifetime though would be Jacques Kallis.

The most under-rated player to ever play the game, hands down imo. The lack of credit he gets for his accomplishments is criminal.

Close to 40 million people attempted to buy tickets for Sachin's last Test

Unbelievable , I think that says enough about the man

his figures cannot be compared to anyone.

Some bloke called Sobers might argue that point Prmz

Any bloke who can open the bowling for his country bowling fast ,cutters or leg spin is a very special individual indeed

Good news for you Mexicans

Looks like you might beat us Cane Toads in a cricket match chasing another 300 plus with only 5 wickets left

Kallis vs sobers sounds a lot like Bradman vs tendulkar.
I really find it pointless comparing players from different era.

I personal can't comment about sobers or Bradman or Richards coz I haven't seen them play.

But when you take into consideration these guys played under rules that were far more bowler friendly than today conditions and rules I think that the guys records from the past should mean more

Can you imagine the cricketers of todays playing on stickies :astonished:

Unlimited bouncers being bowled 😱pen_mouth:

Slow over rates

Bigger fields

Pitches not prepared as well

No DRS

Leg side theory (pre 1934 )

As Sachin's great career comes to an end, another Ashes series is upon us.

I like George Bailey coming into the team. He is experienced and adaptable. I think he'll find the right way around things more often then not.

Here's hoping Mitch Johnson continues his great bowling of late and hopefully Siddle has a more consistent series.

I'm expecting a drawn series but am hoping the Aussies will scrape by with the win.

Averages better than Tendulkar in all forms of the game, plus he can take a wicket or five.

Question

What is the rule if the ball strikes this floating camera thing they use ??

I wonder if that has even been taken into account ??

If the Home Team is Batting, its a Six…

If the Away Team is Batting, its Out!

Seems fair...
