I think we can win Sydney Test without Watson , but I'm not so sure if Harris doesn't play

Harris is the gel that holds our bowling attack together

Faulkner should replace Watson as the all rounder if he doesn't pass fitness test. The fly in ointment with Watson as the all rounder is he bats at 3\. Who bats there if he goes?

For me, I'd drop Bailey and bring in Kawaja again to bat at 3.

Who replaces Harris if unfit?
I'd punt on Bird at SCG as I think he is good at line and length with good height too.

My guess is Watson will play but bat only and Harris to play too as he is used to pain due to bad knees.

I'd love to see Harris play on in Sydney and help the Aussies attempt the whitewash, but in the great scheme of things I'd be tempted to put him on ice until the SA tour. They are the best side in the world by a long way and we will need Harris to have any chance of victory over there. While I want to see Australia humiliate the Poms in all totality, Harris is more important to us there than in Sydney.

Speaking of SA, Kallis has retired. 13,000 Test runs, 11,000 ODI runs with better averages than Tendulkar. Best part of 300 wickets in both formats also. Probably the best cricketer of our generation.

I rate Kallis right up there. They should that he averaged what Tendulkar did and with the bat and Zaheer Khan does with the ball showing just how important a player he is. They'll miss him a lot.

Yeah I think Harris will be rested. He struggled in this game and they'll want him to be fit in South Africa. Apparently Coulter-Nile will replace him.
Watson if can't bowl will probably be rested and Bailey dropped. It sounds like they want an all-rounder so Faulkner comes in the middle order and Doolan has been called in so he'll bat at 3\. It's a few changes so hopefully they'll still get the whitewash though I won't be as confident.

Watched Doolan bat the other day in Twenty 20 game and everything seemed to be coming out of the middle of the bat

Very impressed

Tough call on Kallis as best of this generation , probably comes down to Steve Waugh , Viv Richards , Kallis ,Warne and McGrath

If pushed Steve Waugh for me ,mentally tough ,great skipper and if you ever wanted someone to bat for your life he'd be my man

Best player to watch would be Viv

Kallis was as dangerous with the ball as with the bat. He is in my opinion the most complete cricketer of our generation (not batsman, **cricketer**.)

Less than 1.5 wickets per Test isn't that menacing CB

I think he is a good cricketer , no doubt and as have mentioned previously probably in my Top 20 of all time but I don't think he has had the influence over the game that many others had in the last 30 years

Yes he is underrated by many

He was more than capable of taking multiple wickets. FFS, even McGrath had innings where he wouldn't take wickets.

As an all round cricketer he far surpasses any of his peers.

I think the difference of Kallis over many of the all rounders is he was a batting all rounder whereas a Imran Khan ,Ian Botham etc were bowling all rounders

Kallis is the best of his generation as an all rounder

If you class wicket keepers as all rounders , where do you rate Gilchrist and Kallis CB ??

Batting average of 47 and 416 dismissals in 96 Tests

feel sorry that he never won a WC though.
he has always been so reliable- with the bat and the ball. just like sachin, his asset has been his longetivity. a class cricketer through and through.
i personally dont like comparing players but kallis along with flintoff and pollock were head and shoulders above the rest of the all rounders since i started waching cricket

however, gotta say growing up, he's always been one of my most hated cricketers for some reason- maybe his arrogance or selfishness that i used to dislike when i was a kid.

always thought watson will turn out to be a better player than kallis though. tbh he's got the talent but not the consistency nor the fielding

hope rhino plays. he gives great balance between siddle's line to line bowling and mitch's aggression. if he is fit enough to play, then play him. none of this save him till SA bs.

for those saying faulker to replace bailey or watson… the only weak part of our line up has been our top order batting and why would u want to weaken it even more by bringing faulkner?

also i agree that if harris is ruled out- bird has to be in. pattinson, starc, bird and cummins have been earmarked as the future and that's where we should be looking towards. bird imo hasn't disappointed in the few chances he's gotten.

bailey has been less than impressive but i reckon we still need to give him more chances- probs until end of SA. however, if he doesn't make a significant contribution or doesnt work more on his technique then he should be given a warning.

atm we've just started winning. no need to fix something that isn't broken. the mean age of the batting line up is around 30 afaik and that's young for a test cricket. young players will get their chances through injuries or seniors being out of form. no need to meddle with this team atm.

He has only retired from test cricket. Has said he wants to go to the WC.

CB Mate I don't know why you are getting agitated about my comments about Kallis

I've rated him in my top 20 all time and said he was the best all rounder of his generation

I was only asking a question about Gilly and Kallis

Some judges class keepers as all rounders ,some don't

Just read an article about our lower order batsmen

Just stated that Johnson is now rated the 7th best all rounder in the world and Peter Siddle the 9th best all rounder in the world

Talking about retirements was saddened to hear that Kerry "Skull" O'Keefe will be retiring at the end of the current series

Greatest laugh of all time :roll
