Cricket Season Thread

Our top order is continuing to fail (except for Usman) keeping the series fairly tight.I doubt if that will continue but if it does heads need to roll starting with Warner
 
Warner does fine at home on dead tracks, his average overseas except for SA is pretty piss poor though. His replacements aren't exactly amazing though. Renshaw and Harris are patchy at best too. I'd probably give Boland another spell too if Hazlewood is right, or even give Neser a go.

Another 50-60 runs probably wins us that game. The bowlers did well to get to 7 wickets with an ordinary target to defend.
 
So who do we replace Warner with??? Renshaw is a serial knicker but a great slipper and can bowl some off spin if required. Marcus Harris has never made it at the next level so why would he now.

Left field bring Green into open, and have try some Bazball. If he scores more than 30 it’s a bonus. We could also just stack the side with batters and hope for a draw, but that is risky as there is always a real chance they will all fail.

Not much difference between both sides, our fielding probably gives us a slight edge

Impossible to drop Marsh he outplayed Green with bat and ball so far
Giving Warner last chance but move him away from Broads opening overs
Neeser averaging over 50 with the bat and 25 with the ball in county cricket and Boland has flopped so far
Also Hazelwwod a little off
Above is longer batting line up and win or draw next test we retain ashes

We need to get serious with our team selections for this next game, we have injuries and out of form players. Lyon is a big loss and Pat has no idea how to captain spin and has little to no confidence in Murphy. Pat needs a to sit down and have a 1 on 1 with Tubby on how to captain spin before the next test. Warner can’t hide from broad, he needs to go. They will know who has been best in the nets out the f Renshaw and Harris, and although I am not keen to move Head, it could allow us to pick marsh and green with head opening.
Boland is done for this series, so either Hazo or I like the idea of giving Nesser a go. Some hard decisions, interesting times.

Agree Capt Pat needs to captain better with using spin and how and when to use shortball
He didn't bowl as well as he can on day 4 . Understand the pressure he's been under
Im really 50/50 on Drop Warner or give him one last chance .Green is still developing and he didn't set the world on fire in the first 2 tests but he's a definite part of the future.
Some in the know over there say Neeser been on fire
My only real disagreement is I don't rate Harris or Renshaw
Even if we drop Warner and have Marsh and Green and Neeser in that's enough batting
Big plus Marsh and Starc form
 
I don't think you can manufacture an opener. Has Renshaw been opening for WA? I honestly think it has to be Bancroft in the next series. Can't weaken the middle order pushing Head to open. Maybe if we were versing Sri Lanka or Windies but not in such a tense contest.

Even someone like Harris, I don't think he's going to perform any better than Warner but if he fails in two matches, it will really hit his confidence and he'd feel like he let the team down.

Stick it out with Warner, tell him his time is up and he should think about retiring end of series. Knowing he's got 4 innings left of his test career - that's how I feel you get the best of him.
 
In saying all that though, I wouldn't mind Marnus opening either. Marnus isn't being dropped unless he fails in 2 more series so maybe a "change" could help regenerate him. I remember Dravid did that along with keeping a couple of tests when he was struggling and eventually he got moved back but it helped him short term.

I'd trust Marnus to stick out 50-60 balls and it allows us to get Marsh and Green in.

I just don't think we should blood in a Harris or Renshaw who haven't played in this series yet unless there are injuries. The pressure on you is different if you've replaced an injured player compared to a dropped 100-game veteran.

I’m not a fan of Renshaw or Harris but that’s who they took to pick from, Harris at least opens for Vic, and hasn’t Rendhaw been playing middle order for QLD coz he couldn’t handle the pressure of opening?
I like the idea of telling Warner he’s done at yet end of this series, it might change his mindset and he may score some runs, otherwise Marnus to open is also not a bad idea but who do you have at 3? Move them all up and slot Marsh in?
