Wessels played for Qld, Australia and South Africa in 93 in an unusual situation in modern times.
Decent on the mic.

Warne was excellent. For the short time he sat in the box. 😔
I agree. He'd subtly talk down the SCG and promote the MCG at every opportunity. Her did favour some players over others. I remember he talked up Mitch Swepson unbelievably. Reckoned he was the second coming. He turned out to be quite an average leg spinner.Warne was good in some ways but I hated how he pushed agendas against those he didn't like and those he did like. It wasn't just Starc he always dogged, he continually talked down some very good players and favoured his mates who weren't as good. IMO Warne lost a lot of credibility as a commentator. Loved him as a player though.

He was a bit a fav as a kid, he hit the first spare cut for 6 I ever saw.Wessels played for Qld, Australia and South Africa in 93 in an unusual situation in modern times.

It was cringe worthy at times, the way he’d say outlandish crapola, it was like he did it to stay relevant but it made me think that outside leg spin he had no idea?I agree. Without touching it, there looks to be a slight green tinge that won’t be there later, so without knowing my teams best attributes I’m going to bowl first, although my initial instincts are to bat first 9/10 and on the tenth time you think about bowling and bat first anyway. For a one day game I don’t think there will be anything in it for the bowlers later on, so I’ll take advantage of the green tinge early.Manly Oval for todays W1s match Manly against Sydney University - looks a treat.
Wanna bat or bowl?

I’m with ya. They sold us out to the highest bidder when it comes to ODIs, when they gave it to pay tv and not free to air. I taught people to love cricket watching ODI games, like my Nana. The weather, pitch conditions, etc still play a part. I remember Nan saying why don’t they just hit a six every ball until I explained all the different things that can effect each delivery and the lead up deliveries to each wicket. Micheal Bevan’s heroics and general good looks helped get Nana into cricket when he won those matches from unwinnable positions. She loved tests too before long. One thing I miss is World Series Cricket which involved Australia vs 2 other countries where each team played each team 3 or 4 times with top 2 in a best of 3 final .
We got a number of games and I attended every SCG game in the 80's
I guess this " franchise cricket " and T20 in general wiped all that out .
So now all I have to look forward to are the Tests ( I wish opposition a bit more competitive) and a few , 3 I think ODI 's
T20 obviously ropes in a fair bit of the population who didn't understand the subtle nuances of batting and bowling and therefore were not really cricket followers and now all they need to understand is who can smash the most boundaries
Cricket: players, teams past and present, captains, now and then - even ovals, home and away..... few other sports ignite opinions as this! Even the weather cops its medicine.Without touching it, there looks to be a slight green tinge that won’t be there later, so without knowing my teams best attributes I’m going to bowl first, although my initial instincts are to bat first 9/10 and on the tenth time you think about bowling and bat first anyway. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks for posting that, it was certainly something different to think about and discuss. Good luck out there and.

Agree. Partly due to the poor test opposition. It just seems like this Summer has very few international cricket days compared to the past .
Pakistan were in a position to win the Boxing Day and New Year Tests. Aussies were lucky they were poor opposition.Agree. Partly due to the poor test opposition.

They probably should have won, with a bit more experience they probably would have.Pakistan were in a position to win the Boxing Day and New Year Tests. Aussies were lucky they were poor opposition.
Even the Windes. They were never going to win, but they showed a bit.T

Agree mostly except for one thing “Australia are good, but not that good.”Agree. Partly due to the poor test opposition.
The three tests against Pakistan ended on day 4, on two occasions they barely got past lunch on day 4. In two of the tests Pakistan were rolled for 89 (1st test) and 115 in the 3rd test.
Then the poor old Windies got rolled for 120 in the second dig of the last test and the game finished before lunch on day 3.
Australia are good, but not that good. The demise of test cricket around the world (apart from India and England) is sad to see.
Kool thanks for that. So bowl first was the go with that green tinge @tiger_oneSydney Uni batted first and were bowled out for 212 in 48.2, Manly chased down the total for the loss of 5 wickets with 5 balls to spare
