Terrible idea. Sheffiled Shield is first class cricket. It is the nursery for Test Cricketers. If you give up on first class cricket, just give the game away
I didn’t think I was giving away first class cricket. Just giving a trim to move it forward.
A 90 over day is the same as Tests, all it removes is a team batting for an exceptionally long time ?
Maybe a little lateral thought MM. I’m in my 70s and grew up old school, I’m just trying to think of ways it can be improved.

First class cricket is first class cricket.....if you stop playing it, it ceases to exist. First class cricket doesnt need to be improved. It has never been a commercial practice and exists in its own right.

But even with my proposed changes, wouldn’t it still be first class cricket, coz the cricketers would still be first class ?
Or is there a registered definition of what first class cricket entails.

I like it, we need to be always thinking of things to make it better even if it’s not implemented, but I still think you need to be playing the actual game you are going to play at international level. Not a hybrid as you grow up?, or at state level?, and then play tests/ODI/T20 when you make the top level. I would love state cricket to be on FTA tv.

First class cricket is first class cricket, under MCC rules. It is the actual game of cricket, purest form.

Different bowlers do it each game .This time Lance Morris got 2 wickets in his first 3 overs .First due to an absolute screamer from Marnus .Bartlett and Abbott one each also first 15 overs .We are mixing our bowlers each match .The ODI future looks bright

We are 0-27 after 2 overs chasing 87 to win
I wonder what the biggest ever win in terms of overs to spare is ?
Chasng this 87 we are 1-80 after 6 overs and this is Australia's 1000th ODI
and our highest score EVER !! after 6 overs
Game over in 6.5 overs the shortest ODI in Australia ever
Embarrassing !
Commentators say they have a much stronger team for the upcoming 3 T20 games
I bloody hope so .
Ps Jake F M 41 off 18 balls

It’s been a poor summer of cricket for the ACB.
Lots of low crowds and short games.
Surely the broadcasters are questioning their allegiance to the sport…at least financially.

Steve. You might like this. If you have Foxtel.
The Brief History of Cricket Down Under: The 1980's. On Docos Channel. If I can get hold of a preview will post it. Looks good. Thursday February the 8th

I think it is simply a bad year Pakistan and West Indies are so weak and all we can do is play whats in front of us . People like to see a contest and apart from one guys superhuman effort on the last day of the 5th test of the summer we didn't get one !
However next summer India and after that England .That will bring big crowds
I think "franchise" cricket is doing a lot of damage to Test and ODI cricket except in India
For me Rugby League is tribal and I follow tigers because my family follows tigers since 1908 however for me cricket has always been country vs country and that's what I like if opposition reasonable . I'm too old to follow cricket as a tribal thing .Don't seem to care if sixes or thunder or renegades or stars or who ever wins but understand a growing number of people do and in a generation or two it might takeover

You know they didn’t win the series against the Windies right? The Aussies were as equally piss poor in the Tests this year as their opposition.

If you beat Pakistan 3-0 then I can't agree that we were equally "piss poor " as you say
Windies we win first test easy and were likely to go up 2-0 until "superman " with the bung toe turns up on last day and close to greatest bowling spell with a 7 for at close to 150 k on the last day and we lose by 8 runs which is a very narrow margin
Then 3-0 in the ODI's against weak opposition using only a handful of our world cup winning side .
So far Summer results 7-1 and the 1 was tiny margin
That's not equally as poor as opposition
I do agree that a few individuals had a poor home summer .eg Head apart from 1 ton
Imo I thought Smith and Marnus were a bit scratchy and Marsh and Green were inconsistent. Cant knock our bowlers who gave it their best Albeit looked a little tired in last test .
Next summer India will be a true test

I like all the forms of cricket. My kids only like BBL though , they can't get their heads around a game that goes for 5 days.
