Neser is a genuine all-rounder and a topline cricketer. He would have played 100 tests if he was a pom.
Given Cameron Green out for some time then Neser is a bit similar in that he bowls slightly better than Green but bats slightly weaker and is a great fielder .He's a genuine all round package .
However to squeeze him in the test side you would have to convince either Marnus or Marsh or Head to open which I don't think they will like
If they do go this option then all 3 ( Konstas , Harris ,Bancroft ) miss out

Please point out where I 'ranted'?
By anyone's definition Bancroft is out of form. So is Renshaw.
Are suggestions being proposed on form or favouritism? Or some other reason?
Konstas, Harris, Whiteman all with centuries. Can't see them throwing a 19 year old into T1 against a dominant Indian attack and Whiteman has also never played test cricket.
Be interesting to follow the next shield round and see if anyone else puts their hand up.

Bancroft has been at the top of the shield batting for the last three seasons, second last year to Webster, and you’re just basically repeating the convo. I literally said I don’t reckon they have the nuts to pick Konstas. But hey, how good would it be if he demanded it and nailed it. Also said Bancroft needs a score this year? So thanks for agreeing.
Yes, I can’t wait for the next round to see who backs up their good form.

Highly doubt they would pick a kid to open on the back of two tons and a handful of games for the first test against our hardest opponent . Could be wrong as they have gone left field in the past with the likes of Warner and Peter Who (Taylor)

I'm pretty across the grade scene in Sydney. Konstas is a great talent and intensely focused. I dare say he is bordering on psychotic in his preparation from quite a young age. I hope for his own mental health he makes it with what he has put in.
That being said, I don't believe he has done enough at the grade scene to warrant test selection. IMO he needs some continued domination of Sydney Premier cricket and some more Shield results before he should be considered.

So are you proposing Harris?
In one sense you say Bancroft "isn't up to it at test level" but then imply Harris (who averages 25 across 14 tests) is. By any measure Bancroft has been by some way the best opener playing in Shield over the last 2 seasons, and arguably the best batter. That includes clearly out batting Harris.
The A and shield games will probably decide it, but as of now Bancroft has absolutely earned a spot.

I’m not sure but I always thought Stuy Macgill fitted into that category?
I liked him, and was glad he was around when Warney was suspended, injured or that one time when Steve dropped him. We all wanted to see them destroying sides in tandem, but I’m sure Warney just seen him as competition. I think Stu was a wine drinker in a room full of beer drinkers?
Stu was always a grapes man in a hops culture but would have got many more tests if not for the goat

Luckily I'm not (and neither is anyone else here) having to make the decision. I wouldn't really want to pick Harris either. The risk to Konstas is rushing him in and ruining his confidence if he fails a few times and then has to be dropped.
My main point was form from 3 years ago really doesn't mean a whole lot when recent form has been poor.

Yep. In any other era he would've played 100+ tests and taken 450+ wickets.

I'm preferring Konstas but understand those pushing Bancroft or even Harris
I've got a theory that every now and again someone comes along with
Elite levels of "hand -eye ball coordination " .As such a star is born
Warner and Smith were examples in the first half of their careers but time takes a bit of a toll on their 20/20 vision and reflexes but not to the point of dramatic form drops
I feel both Bancroft and Harris would have already nailed down their spots if they were to be test stars . With Konstas I don't know but I'm just hoping .
Would love to fit someone with the talent of Neser in the team but only way would be to take Marsh out and leave him as our " Whitehall " captain .

Just look at the guys who can't get in our test side
Neser,Webster , Spenser Johnson ,Xavier Bartlett , Todd Murphy , Hardie ,Matt Short .
