Yes strike rate not the be all ! Baz ball seems to be waning but a top test side should have a batting line up with 1-6 all averaging 40 + not 20 something as Bancroft and Renshaw and Harris have achieved at test level
No one from 1-11 should be a medium talent
Totally agree

This Aust A vs India A in Mackay is yielding low scores all round Aust now 7-135 leading by 28runs with 3 wickets left .So far 17 wickets for 243 runs ave 14.3 !
However this pitch is seaming and bounce inconsistent with balls not coming on !
So some of our so called " failures " with the bat are forgiven as this pitch is not a fair base to judge anything .
So Konstas ,Harris and Bancroft lets see how 2nd innings goes or even better the MCG deck next week .

I'm not really fussed in the new replacement for Warner doesn't have a 80 plus strike rate .....as long they are consistent and score runs on any pitch
I think Test cricket has changed a lot since the introduction of WTC.

Winning is important which means scoring runs fast is important. Definitely 80+ isn't required, but a SR below 50 ends up putting pressure on other batsmen to score runs.

I'd be interested to compare the amount of drawn matches in the last decade to the decade before that. I reckon 2005-2015, the amount of drawn matches would be double if not triple.

Teams score a lot quicker. You can thank 20/20 for that. Garbage format.

If we can find someone with a 40 average and 50 strike rate I'd be happy

Mackay wicket has now settled down .India A after 2 early losses in 2nd innings are now building a nice lead with 8 wickets in hand . Hope our guys get a decent knock some time tomorrow !

Watching India vs NZ 3RD TEST
NZ 3-92 at lunch .Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is one hellava cricketer
We will need to watch him carefully
Note on last tour here he was the one with Risbah Pant who had the big partnership in Brisbane 4th test to win series .
This guy is in serious form !

Yeah he looked pretty good last tour

Aust A chasing 225 to win
Konstas and Harris batting together 0-12 Konstas 9 * Harris 1*
Harris played 14 tests average 25.3 This says to me he's had plenty of goes without success .
McDonald a Vic might however favour a Vic as he made comment Konstas has never played in Perth ?
What do expect from a 19 year old whos played 6 first class games !

Neither Harris or Bancroft looking convincing. Bancroft just caught on a no-ball

The biggest issue for me is winning the Border/Gavaskar trophy and not who replaces Warner ( although I prefer new blood over the "tried and failed ")
But getting our guys match ready ?
Marsh and Head missing for many weeks for paternity leave ? Neither in our ODI team to play Pakistan starting Monday.. Head is the world's best white ball batsman so winning is not that important ?
The rest of our team have played little cricket
Capt Pat has'nt played anything for ages ?
In 3 weeks are we going to be able to put a fit and firing team on the field
I SURE HOPE SO !!

Agree, first mission is to beat India. We will have to use a stop gap until someone consistently scores to replace Warner. I think today’s wicket might spell the end of the Konstas talk for now, but there’s been talk of Mcsweeny, he’s averaging 70 this season before this game. But he averaged 40 at best last season finishing with a ton, he is not an opener but he is scoring runs.
I think Bancroft should’ve been given a shot last year instead of the Smith experiment, he had consistently scored runs and would have given him some time in the job. If he doesn’t score runs soon he may never get another shot.

Comparing our ODI side to the one that won our 6th World Cup last November we are missing in batting order
1.Warner ( J F McGuirk )
2.Head ( M Short )
3.Marsh ( A Hardie ) but batting no 7
11.Hazelwood ( S Abbott )

In brackets the replacement
Also Smith moves up one in the order and Marnus down one to accommodate Inglis in between
This is not the best possible team we could put on the park
JFM is a typical T20 batter meaning a 6 or two then out
Short is very good but no one is as good as Head
Hardie doesn't have the power of Marsh nor does Smith
Abbott is not as economical as Hazelwood

I just think the side called AUSTRALIA should take precedence over Shield and all other obligations

Kiwis make it a 3 nil drubbing of India
We clean sweep NZ in NZ ,then Sri Lanka give NZ a hiding then they clean sweep India in India ? Go figure
Watched all of it
Players out of form Rohit Sharma , Virat Kohli , Jasprit Bumrah , Mohammed Siraj
Jadeja and Ashwin ok with ball but not with bat
Yaiswal and Gill very patchy
Only players in form Rishabh Pant and Washington Sunder
IMO Rohit and Viral should step down

Ps wickets were turning dramatically and you can't blame NZ for that

In 30 mins Australia's summer of cricket kicks off at the MCG
Its my favourite white ball game ODI'S
Its important considering next Feb / Mar we play the champions trophy in Pakistan which is also 50 over format .
Its exactly a year since we won the World Cup for the 6th time in front of 120,000 at the huge Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmenabad .One of our greatest achievements
Main change is at the top where we opened with Warner and Head
Today its Jake F McGuirk and Matt Short
All the best guys !
Pakistan is clearly the most unpredictable team in the world who haven't played an ODI since the world cup .
Who knows what will happen
Pat wins the toss and we are bowling
Biggest worry Head is a big out !
