Great news weve got one batsman in form
Travis Head 63 not out off 72 balls ( well played )
Throw in Starc 26 not out in 1st innings that gives us 2 in form batters going to Adelaide. Hope this afternoon Marsh and Carey can get 50's
The game is gone so what we need is a few batsmen playing themselves into form and gaining confidence for Adelaide
This is essential !

Looking at a "best of the rest" of form players in Shield who could be picked:

Top order:
- Konstas 347 at 69
- Harris 342 at 57
- Hunt 333 at 41
- Weatherald 311 at 44

Middle Order:
Cartwright 433 at 63
Inglis 297 at 99
Webster 250 at 50

Konstas, Inglis and Cartwright all probably knocking on the door.

Webster and Weatherald smokeys

Konstas (19), Inglis (29) and Hunt (27) the only ones under 30

Only guys under 25 in the top 20 shield run scorers are Konstas, Goodwin (22) with 288 runs at 48, Davies (24) with 260 at 37
Based on this Konstas and Inglis derseve a go

It might be the 5th time I'm saying it in this thread, but I still don't understand the hate for T20.

It brings in a new crowd, it brings in a new set of skills for a different type of people.

A certain kind of a person is required for Test Cricket and a different type of person for T20.

The type of people who enjoy Test match, just like the type of player who is a good Test player are rare now. It's not because T20 has come in, it's the changing of times.

T20 cricket hasn't ruined Test cricket, maybe slightly fast tracked the inevitable irrelevancy of it in this day and age.

I have grown up with Cricket shoved in my face my whole life so Test, ODI, T20, T10, whatever it is- I will watch it and I will follow it. Not even 5% of people in Australia would be in that boat.
I think you are dead wrong.
T20 has changed the mindset and skill level of cricketers to such a degree that Test and even ODI cricketers are hard to come by.
T20 is suited to power hitters only. Any batsmen with nuance to thir style is left for dead....except those who like to lift it over the slips and keeper. Pace and seamer bowlers cop it even worse. If you cant hide a wide yorker, you have bugger all arsenal. It helps the spinners which IMO are the boringest participants of the game.
So in summary, it dumbs down the talent of batsmen to the simplest form of the game...hit and hope. It promotes the boring bowlers whilst bastardising the talented ones. Its dogshit on a stick.

Agree ,we need to stop going back to batsmen that have been selected and dropped on numerous occasions
This includes Renshaw ,Harris ,Bancroft
Only way forward is new talent
We must find our version of Jaiswal

Not necessarily. We found some of our greats by going back and giving them another chance. Matt Hayden dropped 3 times I think. Langer 2 or 3. Mitch Marsh took 5 or 6 axings. Usman is another.

In fact, now that I think about it, going back to someone who has previously experienced what Test cricket is like, then has had the chance to go away and mature, is exactly the approach we need to take. These newcomers will fail. Only Inglis I'd consider giving a debut to.

Missed that. Did he start the year dropped or injured? Would love him to get another crack

Goodwin batting 3 for WA at 22. They must rate him highly but I can't say I know much about him.
He may have just been recalled. He struggled for a while and got dropped. Goodwin”s father played for WA and test cricket for Zimbabwe. Presumably Jayden would be eligible to play for the Zimbos but I’d imagine he’d rather play for Australia.

Konstas made 39 Paterson is 25* for NSW

Henry Hunt is 90* for the SACAs where nobody else for SA has made over 50 and the numbers 2,3 and 4 all made first ball ducks.

Renshaw made 14 off 34 in a low scoring game. Angus Lovell, who made an unbeaten ton against NSW two games ago, has an unbeaten half century.

Head goes for 89 to perfect Bumrah ball for 89
With scores of 11 and 89 for the test 100 runs ave 50 for the test
The ball that got him in both innings were jaffas
Now want Marsh and Carey and Starc to get 50,s

Head justifies his spot for the 2nd test,no other batsman at this stage has although Usman and Smith will both probably get picked on prior efforts

Top order batting collapses
Weve had so many in the last 2 years
This test weve got 4/31 and 4/17 to add to the list
Point is its so hard recover from these situations
So its not a new thing and stick with the status Quo and its going to keep happening and we could lose a home series 5-0
To make the Australian cricket team you must be in form
Inglis is in form Marnus is not and I'm a little sceptical if Smith is in form

Our day 4 batting not too bad
Today we've lost 5-215; which is ok but
Of this 215 runs kwajaja contributed 1 and Smith 17
Head 89 ,Marsh 47 ,Carey 30* extras also big
Starc just got caught by a screamer at short leg for 12

Australia's batting is starting to resemble a certain NRL side
Underachieving is becoming the norm

Finally lose by 295 runs !
India have won 3 of last 4 test matches in Australia
Looking at our batting line up and average score
McSweeney 5.0
Kwajaja 6.0
Labuschagne 2.5
Smith 8.5
Head 50.0
Marsh 26.5
Carey 28.5
Starc 19.0
Cummins 2.5
Lyon 2.5
Hazelwood 11 runs not out

What stands out is 1-4 (terrible)
5-8 ( ok Head great)
Basically top 4 average total 22 runs between them all
You can't win tests with this top order !
If they make zero changes i predict we lose in Adelaide

Starting to wonder about the coach

We lost by what our top 4 batsmen should be scoring in 2 innings averaging about 37-38 with the bat.All well below the mark
