Cricket Season Thread

Yeah head should stay at 5.

Not sure what the selectors are doing. They put in Boland because Hazelwood was injured and people said it was a masterstroke. Wouldn't of happened without an injury.

Starc averages 44 at the SCG and goes for plenty in the 5th test but the selectors stuck with him even though he averaged over 40 in that test.

Marsh played two tests two many in that series. Should of been dropped after Adelaide.

Australia one is what people will justify the selections with. To me it's more of a case of India being bad with their selections as well.

If they had Sami there and dumped the captain and tinkered abit more they would of won.

I hope next season. Our youngest player isn't 31.
We need a young team to combat bazball next summer.

Bazball. 🙄 meh.
We could do with an injection of younger cricketers knocking the door down to unseat the older players.
The selectors are doing them no favours.
When it works, it works.
On our wickets, those guys will score quickly.

Women's test at the MCG
Special seating actually on the ground
Seems the rope must be in a long way at least on one side
This is unique !

Bazball results not so great when you look at the test championship table
Australia won 11 tests lost 4
England won 11 tests lost 10
Being one of the leading countries and losing almost as many tests as you have won doesn't make great reading

They dont have the bowlers we have.
Remember that our bowling line up wins most of our games with ball and the bat.

3-455 great but we can't compare how batters going in SL vs how we batted in Australia
Wicket is very docile and bowlers also
I commented yesterday I liked the wrist spinning leggie and still think he's the best of them
Laugh at one ch 7 commentator saying he surprised the wrist spinner getting more turn than the finger spinning off break bowlers
Not sure he knows much
Facing Bumrah at the MCG much more difficult and Siraj also
Feel Konstas would have liked this slow docile wicket

I think Sam would be quietly disappointed, especially seeing Head left about 100 runs out in the field.

Inglis 75 not on debut but imo doesn't come close to Konstas 60 on debut
Considering the wicket and the bowlers they faced
However im a big supporter of Inglis
He was one of the guys in the 2023 world cup who handled spin
He really helped us win the semi final vs South Africa in Kolkata .

I'm predicting Josh to get a ton on debut
But this Sri Lanka bowling is so tame I'm starting to feel sorry for them

After watching such high class cricket on competetive wickets over the summer, its pretty hard to get alot of enjoyment out of watching this.

Marnus has to be in big trouble if he can't get in the next test, especially with Inglis taking his chance. For the Ashes, I can see:

Konstas
Khawaja
Green (big hopes)
Smith
Head
Inglis
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

That is a very strong team IMO, capable of out bazing the bazers. If green not fit they will need to figure out who can bat 3 and Webster comes in. Probably has to be Smith

So very thankful Mitch Marsh was kicked before this series because he would have undoubtedly scored big this game and been locked in to the side for another 12 months 🙄.

Great job Inglis getting a century on debut. Admittedly a very easy surface to score a century but impressive nonetheless.

Its not been a gripping test match but at least most of our batsmen were scoring 4-5 runs per over
So far Marnus struggled 20 off 50 but now both Carey and Webster struggling to find the boundary
5-591 seems pointless to keep batting with the scoreboard not moving much

Batting after tea seems a bit pointless
Scoring slowed
Only 2 Aussie bats struggled to score at a good rate
Labuschagne 20 off 50
Webster 23 off 50
At 6 -632 batting for what ?

The first Test double by an
🇦🇺
batter in Sri Lanka!
