Culture Change (Lol)

This has been going on since losing to the baby broncos under Wayne Pearce, nothing new here. 05 and 2010 maybe the only Years we could handle beating teams we are suppose to beat.

Bringing in coaches every 2 or 3 years hasn't helped our cause. Because of people whining when you get a loss "ooo sack the coach" "ivan has been a disappointment" why don't we all just get together and actually back the guy and his ways for once. Make an assessment on him at the end of next year. He had nearly nothing to work with when he came in give it time fellas. Ivan knows what he is doing and if it wasn't for him we would be certain spooners and wouldn't be making the finals for the next 4-8 years.

Just support the guy.

Well this is the most disappointed I have been after a loss in a long long time! I want our team to turn up when it matters, to run hard and throw passes together that challenges the opposition. We had everything to play for against a poor team and threw nothing at them. I was happy Robbie and Benji came back, but that game sort of showed me that the reasons why they left were justified. For all their brilliance they are just not the guys that can get the job done.

If we sign them for next year it will only be because we couldn't attract anyone better, or we have to bide out time until players can start negotiating such as Cleary.

To be honest I don't blame the coach. I actually believe Potter had a far better roster than Ivan does. Our ability to capitulate has been there to see ever since we merged. That is the culture you get when you merge two poorly performing sides. The only way out is to bring in the brightest youngsters talent, and some quality first graders like we had in 05 and 10-11.

Did anyone hear Liam Fulton on the radio yesterday saying the 05 Tigers team trained attacking football 85% of the time? Hasn't the game in general become boring since then. Reduce the interchange and do it fast.

Under no circumstances should Farah or Marshall be resigned …signing 35 year olds is an indication that this club is in dire straights for gods sake move on !

His biggest test will be recruiting quality for next year. Recruitment for this year was ok considering the mess we were in but another round of just ok signings won't be enough.
9 game contracts aren't the answer either.

Yes so much this ^^^ We need at least 2 game breaking forwards and 1 big, tall, fast wing/centre to be competitive next season. Otherwise just get ready for more of the same folks!

What a supremely boring and predictable thread. Good news is coach is in place for 2019 so we can concentrate on something else rather than whinging about it.

I find the comments funny, along the lines of "every year I get sucked into believing in this club" - fool me twice, they say?

We are a battler club. If you want that to change, great, me too, you don't get dynasties swapping out the coach every 2 seasons.

I’m not saying he should be sacked. Far from it. But given the advantage he’s had with our cap, we should be much better placed. I don’t think it’s unfair to say that this year we have underachieved, especially after our start. Tonight was indefensible. Everything was on the line and we put up the white flag.

I disagree. I think we've over achieved based on our squad. I also think it's a big call to lose 3 out of the big 4 who we were building our club around and then to state that he has had an advantage with our cap. He only had that advantage because we lost players that we wanted to keep.

Based on our first 8 weeks, and the last two, I can’t buy that. This team has shown they can compete with the best in the competition. Its left us with no excuses.

There is a massive difference between competing for periods of the season compared to competing consistently over the course of a season.

I'm not stating excuses. I think I'm just being realistic. Do we have the same quality team compared to the top teams of the comp ? I honestly don't think so. I am stating that we finally have a coach who is trying to improve the team and he doesn't seem to making monumental blunders compared to someone like Jason Taylor.

I don't see the coach as being the issue at our club.

Probably not as theres no one else avaliable its good everyone on here is starting to realize what ive known for ages….cleary is a dud

Not everyone thinks that - I certainly don’t

Which part, that no one else is available or that Cleary is a dud?

I don’t think Cleary is a dud. Far from it

I don’t think so either, but we are underachieving atm.

Agreed - I just posted about recruitment in the culture thread. In fact I’ve been banging on about it for a while. Fringe first graders and past their prime champs just don’t cut it. That’s where our problem are

I still back Ivan going forward but he needs to make some good signings as we are lacking consistency.

No established coach would want to come here anyway as it usually means their last gig in the NRL as a head coach.

I’m sure Ivan said earlier in the year something along the lines of (paraphrasing): the players you bring in at the start of a rebuild (and to change the club culture) are not necessarily the same players you recruit to win competitions.

Everyone doesn't - I don't and a few others chipped in as well.

Maybe edit your post to read "almost everyone" or "a few on here".

All well and good Steve. The question is, who could Ivan have bought for 2018, that are good, that want to come here and that he didn't play massive overs for?

It is going to be a similar situation for 2019 if you have a look at the players on the market with the above restrictions.

2020 will be a different situation with heaps of good players in positions we need becoming available.

For next year Cleary will have to grab what he can to improve on 2018\. From reading on this Forum over the last eighteen months nobody wants to pay overs - yet disappointed people are saying he should have thrown heaps at this player or that player. They are also the ones jumping up and down that we payed overs (I don't believe we did) for Reynolds, packer etc.

I am sure Cleary and the Tigers have a plan, they are sticking to it and it will come to fruition but not overnight.

I dont think he is a dud at all…..a bit of luck with ref calls and injuries to key players early on and we could well and truly be in the 8....the hatchett would be back in the cupboard in my opinion.....

I really have to laugh at all you negative posters on this forum. We lose a game and the noose is tied for the coach. What happens if the Warriors or the Panthers lose this week and we still have a chance. Do you all do an about face and start to believe again. We were bad last night but the dogs were good, even that plodder holland, most think he is garbage i think he is a good up and comer and would have him in our team if we could. Refs let dogs off thier own goal line all night with penalties. Not blaming refs for the loss but it was one thing i did notice. Anyway chins up boys and girls we are Tigers!!!!!
