Culture club:...

If a lot of buz words and mumbo jumbo gets my team winning games and taking ownership for their performances than I am or for this consultant spinning his spin, and really a lot of what Pascoe has said correct, but I am very cynical when it comes to these fly in and fly out consultans with the golden tongue

There might be a bunch of people here saying "buzz words" and "mumbo jumbo", but corporations do this sort of stuff all the time, and there's no reason a football team should be any different.

It's not just about setting targets and accountability, it's about understanding and buying into the business' strategy and goals.

It sounds vague and lame because we don't actually know the details of what cultural changes they are implementing.

My company has this stuff - mission statement, core values, pillars for success - we are expected to learn them and all our yearly goals / performance review / KPIs / bonuses are tied into those company focuses.

We get this every year, other clubs don't.
Just wish the club would refrain from making a public service announcement at the start of the year.
Play footy, win games and show serious improvement will do me just fine over all this media rubbish.

I know right!

Exactly gents

Bit like Rocky 2 when Rocky's wife has the baby and says "there is one thing I want you to do for me"

And he comes in close expecting some big soppy speech

She says "WIN"

Yep pretty much ignored the rest after the first 2 or 3 sentences of spin. What a load.

"Culture" is the go-to phrase of this day and age. CULTURE aka top-notch squad means jack. The clubs that are known for CULTURE are coincidently also the clubs that have above average squads year after year. The Brisbane Broncos CULTURE= big bucks spent to own the best talent. Ditto Roosters.
Clubs that can have a "winning culture" without having the top shelf in playing talent are rarer than health food at Gus Gould's house.

Culture is an easy word to throw around when funds and premium cattle are plentiful.

And Tony Burton passed away today , the guy who is the trainer of both Apollo and Rocky and in all the movies

RIP Tony Burton

The article on here left the three words out. They are, apparently; Team. Excellence. Respect.

I wonder how the marketing fella arrived at the last one? Respect. It suggests there is not enough of it presently.

If it means the lads work together as a team, take accountability for their performances & pride in the jersey then I'm all for it: Team, Excellence, Respect.

Even more valuable if the team were involved in its implementation, which the article says they were.

Taylor tried to change the only constant

Then he was forced to apologize to the only constant

And if they lose badly and consistently without that constant another apology may be forthcoming?

No we'll just write another book

Wonder where this book will end up in the library , the fiction or non fiction section ??

No doubt after they all get their book we'll all be on the same page moving forward ticking all the boxes for glory days ahead.

Do you think given what was in Phil Rothfield's column this morning that maybe they can include a who's who in rugby league for our chair? Seriously embarrassing that we a chair who doesn't know who the NSW State of Origin coach is, nor the current premiership coach.

Change the culture by acquiring the services of top line players who can help create a winning culture and let the consultant carry the drinks.
