Those were the days , Jimmy Jack, Benny Elias, Paul Sironen, Steve Edmed, Tim Brasher, and the late Jacin Sinclair R.I.P he could of been anything if it wasn't for injuries ,just scored a cracker try, had a fend like Hodges and he only played 80 odd first grade games. I recall watching him in Presidents Cup back in those days and he used to kill it, (what a talent).

Jacin had some off field issues too. He has obviously passed on so it doesn't really matter now but Pearce had little choice. It is a shame he never really fulfilled his talent.

Yeah, I don’t want to get into the Balmain v Western Suburbs stuff either but not sure why are they even showing a Balmain v Newcastle game for the Head to Head series instead of a Wests Tigers v Newcastle match.

Dont think either Balmain or Western Suburbs games should be shown in these head to head showings.

If that match was a guide to how the standard of refereeing was in those days then id say the standard was 100 times worse then it is today

Yeah great memories, Jacin was as good as any centre in the comp when he was on his game. So strong and yet incredibly skilful and quick too. Paul Davis and Will Robinson were another couple that showed huge promise. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons none of them really kicked on, but boy they had some talent.

And McCallum was normally one of the better ones! I went to a wedding not so long ago where Greg McCallum was the celebrant…

Balmain 11-10 thanks to an Elias field goal kicked around the 30th minute I think of the first half. You can tell the way the game has changed. 10-4 up after half an hour and the commentators were saying what a smart bit of play it was. These days they'd call you nuts if you did the same thing.

Elias was the match winner, Siro played okay, Alan Jones looked like a tool…

There were a few different reasons Jacin didnt fulfill his potential, being a combination of injury and his own self destructive nature off the field. I can tell you that at the time of his passing theres only one person Jacin blamed for this, and that was himself. I wouldnt normally go into it too much but since he's been brought up here i might as well. But growing up he was freak. Everyone knew him, everyone either loved him or hated him. Opposition teams parents used to bait him from the sideline cos they knew he had a temper, just to put him off his game…im talking about that crap happening at ages of like 13 or 14\. Disgraceful behaviour that even lead to him having a season in the North Sydney comp. Ill never forget the day he terrorised Brad Fittler in a SG Ball game with both guys playing 5/8\. Fittler pleaded with him to leave him alone.

2 memories stick with me regarding Jacin....one is the day he destroyed Steve Renouf in front of a packed Leichhardt oval crowd, i think that was the game that lead to his eventual NSW selection. The other is the day i won the under 7's comp and he ran onto the field to carry me on his shoulders around the ground, ill never forget it. Gee he had a bad side, but his good side was better than anyones.

The thing he hated the most was always being told how good he COULD have been. But he could never escape it, he heard it nearly every day. Hopefully he's happy and at peace.

I'll never forget that game at Leichardt. In those days Brisbane had a virtual state of origin team, and yet single-handedly he almost got a very ordinary Balmain side home. Made Renouf in particular look second-rate. It's a cruel irony that such a performance ultimately contributed to the sorts of feelings that you speak of.
