The concession by the Wallabies to accept a cut in Test payments by $3100 per match in their new collective bargaining agreement has been lauded by their union and the Australian Rugby Union as a sign of goodwill to help the code get back on its feet financially.
But Rugby Union Players' Association chief executive Greg Harris said that with the short-term ''pain'' there was still long-term ''gain'' in the CBA, which took three years to negotiate before it was unveiled on Wednesday.
There was far more to the CBA than a cut in Test fees from $13,100 in 2013 to $10,000 for all players in 2014 and 2015, with the figure to remain in 2016 and 2017 for Wallabies on ARU ''top-up'' contracts, while non-contracted players will receive $12,000 per Test.
