CV & us.

We live out of town so are automatically isolated.
A few weeks back I got Tick typhus and had to go onto a course of antibiotics. Because I then had a lowered immunity, my wife and I decided to pull the kids out of school so they couldn't bring anything home. The principal was not impressed but is gradually coming around and providing home schooling information.
The virus is not recorded as being in this area yet. So far the one case in Cairns is the closest to here. We know it will get here eventually.
Supermarkets are rationing pretty much everything at the moment but I imagine that things will return to normal sooner than later. The hoarders have their prizes and can live off that for a while.
I wish you all the best in this strained time.

My elderly parents are in home isolation having returned from a cruise in Italy. Before they left the virus had only just begun in China but I still urged them not to go. Dad too stubborn. It’s been 7 days and still no symptoms, fingers crossed.

I can relate. My father just called me from Bangkok AIrport and they are about to board a night flight back to Sydney. They are the most generous parents but they got this wrong; I suggested they not go as this was about to explode and now 14 days isolation which they will be disciplined about.

Did the flight depart, as some are getting cancelled, even at a late stage?

My family household will be feeling the pinch in the coming weeks. My place of business has been informed that as of today all staff hours would be slashed drastically and that all contracts would be renegotiated with a possibility of further reductions to come and worst case scenario would be closIng down altogether without pay...What makes this all so worrying is that you don’t have a definitive time frame because the current climate is so uncertain.🙁

Hey Lilly,I can understand your anxiety,I too wont know how my work will end up and maybe the owner could put me off as well, however if you are really concerned about your finances during this period I think you can be put on newstart for about 13 weeks ...its included in the new stimulus package that will be introduced by the Govt...

I flew back to HK yesterday as work has started up again here... which is stupid to be honest. was one hell of an experience with people decked in full suits. Now I'm wearing a tracking bracelet, coupled with an app, to ensure I stay inside. Would be ok if it was just me, but was my wife and 2 young kids

Fingers crossed we got back here ok.

One of the most amazing sights was the amount of planes parked on the tarmac at HK airport. Had to be about 500 parked all neatly on rows and lines. Really put it in perspective.

Familiar timeline, so you wouldn't have happened to be staying with your kid's grandparents Karen and Dennis would you, if so I live across the road?

I think things are slowly improving at the supermarkets... Delivery time restrictions have been relaxed and the panic buying pin heads have crawled back into their mcmansions.... Did a usual shop last night where we usually get frozen fruit for smoothies... Sometimes six different flavoured packets... Go 3 last nihhhht but . Was only allowed two but the guy at the self serve said just do 2 transaction.... We also had four pkts of chips lol

Yep was finally able to pick up so regular things like eggs, cereal and flour today as part of my shop and the shelves are filling up again. Hopefully things flatten out this week. We’ll still be able to go to the shops if there is a shut down so we should be okay.

Yes, the waiting period for newstart has been removed as well!

We've hit 50 something here in NZ today.

Things are getting stricter which is great. I work for a large tele company who have been really, really good throughout this. We started working from home last week, and they did everything they could to acommodate this.

As for supermarkets, they're enforcing a max two items of anything (other than produce) - which I also think is great, and very necessary.

My wife and I are young and healthy, but ofcourse worried for family and the community around us.

nah, not me mate. I dare say a lot of people with kids escaped hk in those early days. At that time we didn't know if it hit infants badly.

I work for myself and work has pretty much creased completely. Financially speaking, these are extremely rough times already. Don't really know where I stand. There's no assistance for sole traders as far as I know. Oh well, I'm sure there's plenty in a similar position - or worse. I'm gonna be spending a fair bit of time at the beach I think. Surfing, chilling and volunteering where possible. Keep active and the mind off things to a degree.

Do you have any loans you can look at getting deferred? That is the process I am going through atm! Looking to set things up so we are able to restart operations coming out the other side!

We haven't had work cut off completely, but the company is shoring up in case the worst happens. Will have a week off at Easter and if someone tests positive in the workplace I will be working from home.

I was made redundant in December just in time for Christmas. No one responding to my job applications, so I decided to UBER for a while just to have some cash coming in. It might be a short career change. Partner works in retail, store manager. Store is still open but for how long? Circumstances means we are only able to live payday to payday and we rent. A shutdown will hurt us greatly but we’ll survive. I am assuming we will loose everything as a result of a shutdown but hopefully still be alive at the end so we can start again.

How do you find UBER? I heard it is pretty hard to make a descent living out of it!

Had a phone call from a staff member's Mum today ..both her husband and daughter have respiratory issues and asked if her son wasn't rostered on

I told her he would be off the roster until this is all over .....I don't think I could live with myself if caused a family a tragedy

Just the one loan, but not really much can be done on that front. But thanks for the suggestion

Yeah the money is not great, but is enough so I could pay my way. You have to be smart about how, when and where you drive, ensuring minimum costs (fuel) and maximum takings. Trips to the Airport are generally profitable but they have gone. Some people are now using UBER to get to and from work instead of using public transport and so at the moment takings are still there.

I'm sure I heard the Government are looking at assisting with rent relief so it would be worth investigating.

Yeah I’m waiting to see what is available. So far the Sole Trader seems to have been left out and forgotten by the rescue packages.

Why do the panic buyers live in McMansions? Seems like a strange thing to say.
