Why would you want to live in Sydney

Close to Wests Tigers..

Ok but that's the only reason

Rather be sodomised by a pack of rabid oragutan's than live in Sydney

Maybe if the WT's were winning 16 games a season .....

You've already been sodomised by rabid orangutans, thats why we put you in Qld..
Just make sure you look after our mate cktiger,he is going to need support..
Jokes aside I lived in Sydney while doing my accountancy course way back in 76,I lived in Newtown and absolutely loved it...since I have been back for many a visit for work and leisure I have seen the change in the place,,nowhere near what it was like ..wouldn't live there if they bought me a place..love visiting and going to footy games but wouldn't settle there....

I must say I am happy with the government's measures to date to help Businesses, Employers and Employees with a continued wage subsidy and Payroll tax breaks.
As a small business/Company It will certainly help to keep the doors open and staff employed while we all try to get through this.
Even if I have to reduce their hours a little they should still be ok and I will help where I can
Having a couple of mortgages and business loans myself it eases the mind a little
I just spent 6 months of weekends busting my arse doing up a house to sell only to have this Virus hit
With no open homes allowed and a vacant house with no rental income, and unlikely to get any at this point, it will certainly stretch the finances
Sometimes I feel like I just keep on getting kicked in the guts
At 52 years of age if things go pear shaped I won't be able to climb up again
It will be time to live a simple life
Maybe hippies have got it right after all
I could say a lot more about the cards I was dealt in life but I am sure many of us have a story
All I can say is if you are doing it tough try and keep your head up, your certainly not alone
What else can we do

What is your business CT? I'm up on the tablelands, if there's any business I can send your way I'm happy to.

I am ok at the moment even though I have had a number of jobs cancelled including the Colonial club refurb
I manufacture laminated bench tops for cabinetmakers, kitchen manufacturing businesses in Cairns
Many of those guys are starting to see jobs cancelled.
It will definitely get worse before it gets better
What do you do up there

What do you do up there

I'm retired.
I guess I'm living the simple life you're talking about. Definitely not hippies but not mainstream either. I look after the home, kids, chooks and turkeys and try to grow veggies. Hopefully heading closer to self sustainability but not there yet.
Luckily the company my Mrs works for looks like it will tick along for a while at least. It will be interesting for us if they have to shut the doors. But like you say, keep your head up. We try to help out with our neighbours, and they do likewise.
Unfortunately I'm not really in the market for benchtops. I hope it keeps ticking along for you.

Thanks for the kind remarks to you all.
I'm unlucky to be in this situation at a time when there's a lot of extra things to worry about apart from getting through the cancer.
I was looking forward to the footy to help keep me sane (if you can be considered sane following the mighty WestsTigers) but now that's gone too lol
There remains one constant though... I can always rely on my fellow supporters on here to keep me occupied and amused!

Don’t know you CK but all the very best. Hope you’ve got many years of being disappointed by the Tigers ahead of you

Without hijacking this thread, I was sent this video and I wish to share it here, with the best of intentions for all of us:

I was all smug, thinking I'd still be able to get out kayaking with my boy and get some red claw or get out to the reef for a fish. Nup all closed down.

Very hard for all. Can footy clubs access the government job keeper money?

Yes they should be able to, but Id guess for the majority of their employees $750 a week would be a huge paycut but much better than Newstart or nothing! With a turnover of less than $1B all they would need to do was prove their business has dropped by at least 30%

Hope they can. My wife can access and it makes all the difference to us. Just that little bit extra. How are you guys going mate?

I will be able to access it too and it will make a huge difference for us too! We are ok mate, Jo works at Nepean hospital as and Occupational Therapist so they guaranteed income has been good for us. Until the job keeper scheme I was looking at going onto newstart but will know be able to get the $750.

Hardest part has been the effect on my daughter so just trying to get her through this with as much normality as possible!

How are you guys going?

We are fine. My job very secure which is 80% if our combined income.
Mate my kids are a bit older than your daughter. After a really crappy divorce I’ve learnt kids are really resilient. You’re a good dad - she’ll be fine.

Yeah just see her getting upset quite easily over little things atm, I know she will be right coming out the otherside but just hate seeing it.

The biggest hassle we have had has been I'm involved in 2 small businesses that both rely on the restaurant and pub industries for 99% of their combined businesses.

Mate, we will be ok, in a better position than a lot of people! My mates business that I have a small % in, I have spent 2 years working with that as my primary job and we have built that to the point where it will make it through, we will actually use this time to install some more machinery to make us stronger coming out the otherside. My business that I own 100% I was just starting to build and was actually training my 1st lot of staff at the end of February. In saying that it's a pub entertainment business, ie trivia night etc. So it has little overheads so was easy to put into hibernation and restart coming out the otherside.

Good luck mate. We’ll have a beer first home game back. Whenever that is??

We've been told in the next couple of weeks our hours will be going down and we have to wear it. If things don't pick up after a few weeks they will be rolling back again.

We are a single income family, we can live on the reduced rate thankfully but if it drops again things will get tough.

It certainly could be worse like some who have lost everything they have worked for overnight so I shouldn't complain too much.

Unfortunately casuals with less than 12 months service miss out unless they became part time pre 1st March. 😉

For someone that feels like they 'just keep on getting kicked in the guts' @Cairnstigers....you are able to retain a great sense of humour....and that's a great gift.

@cktiger thoughts with you mate. Hope all goes well with the treatment. Tigers will be up towards the top again soon, look forward to that mate.

@cairnstigers it certaibly isnt fair, it never is. Hope when this is all done you get some luck come your way mate. It's a beautiful part of the island up that way, hope the business picks up again and you're alright mate.
