Goneeeeeee!!! Oh well i doubt he was going to play any more 1st grade at the tigers next season. What waste!!
Bring on Apkriea, Betham and Davies now.

Well that is a pity for the Western Suburbs Magpies as it sounded like he was playing some good aggressive footy.
He will be missed for that knock out game against Wentworthville this Sunday at Leichhardt….Uncle Leo must be screaming!!!

Hopefully he is innocent, and he can move on from this, and still be a force for the WT next year. 😛ray:

Without knowing the guy personally or any of the circumstances surrounding the issue. If he is actually guilty (unproven at this stage) then the club has to wash their hands of him. Over the years the NRL have had plenty of guys with enormous potential, Laurie seems to be another who is determined to destroy his god given talent with stupid decisions and weak commitment. I've never been that impressed with him on field anyway and the culture of the club doesn't need to be on the slide right before we enter a season with guys like Toupoo and Tuamata on our books.

i 😛ray: to God that he is innocent. But for the club to release a statement before any newspapers, it doesn't sound good.

But i think we should wait until this unfolds more, before we start judging him.

I think this pretty much sums up his commitment to the NRL.

Im sure this won't be his first time before the courts so this could get ugly.

he has been to jail before so he has been to court

I dont think this should by any means spell the end of Daine. Assault can be anything from even puching someone. This type of thing happens all the time.

Those that know Daine from local footy would have seen this coming a longgggggg way away.

Not the best of reputations around his home town of Yamba.

Good riddance.

what a waste, but as BB said, assault isn't just about punching someone….. grabbing an arm or even spitting is grounds for assault... we'll just have to see I guess

Its not the end of the world for the man and nor it should be. He and his partner should be supported 100% by the club and its supporters and the man should hold his head up high. **IF**the allegation is proven then he should be given the chance to reform and get back on track.

99% of the time it is mandatory police make an arrest at a domestic incident. Domestic incidents are very unfortunate but in the true light of day they are very very common in low socio economic households because of all sorts of pressures placed upon families.

The man is a human being and I hope he gets treated that way.

Not surprising. The guy has a committment and attitude problem on field, so god only knows what he's like off it.

Tigers should dump him, irrespective of what the rest of the NRL clubs might do. It's a good chance some club will pay him overs and he'll walk away from it financially better off, but the Tigers have a reputation to uphold, considering the Proton deal has expired.

Realisitically, the guy is 25, has motivation problems, has poor discipline and application of his talent on the field is sub par. Any club taking him on would be taking on damaged goods.

I dare say if the NRL ban him for next year pending investigation and court appearances of course, it will spell the end of his short lived NRL career. It's a sad prospect, but just cause he pulls on a jersey every week (not to mention the greatest jersey there is,) it shouldn't mean he can carry on like a pork chop. If it comes out in the wash that he is cleared, then the Tigers should probably try and continue to nurture his yet unharnessed talent, cause let's face it, he is an enigma and the fans love him.

Are you serious? The fact that women are assaulted all the time makes it any less serious? Some people's worlds are really up-side-down when they whinge an whine about our rugby league team like it's the end of the world when we lose a game - yet trivialize assault against women.

Unfortunately for Daine, repeats of the exact same offence that saw him serve time, if found guilty - will spell the end of his (very short) NRL career - and rightly so.

And BTW - it is not mandatory for police to make an arrest at a domestic incident - It is however, the duty of police to charge an individual where they deem there is sufficient evidence to support a particular charge. This tells me there was sufficient evidence to charge the man, to be put before the courts.

Domestic violence occurs in at least 1/3 of Australian households - and are not restricted to low SES areas. :unamused: I can't believe people still use that old wives' tale - that bad things only happen in poor households. It's rot. Violence is wrong - end of. Against women, men, children, the disabled, the elderly, the Aussie-born and those who come here. Domestic violence is a stain on the human race. I hope he is innocent, because the thought of someone of his size and strength being violent towards a woman in a household with children, just scares the living daylights out of me.
