Not sure if you mean me but link for what?

No not you, GlennB….a link for his jail time...seems like theres all this stuff hes done according to ppl on forums yet ive seen very little to back it up

He wouldnt have been stood down for this one incident, he was an accident waiting to happen, missing training, taking off without permission and other things where either there hasnt been the proof or he has been 'looked after' by senior players before it got ugly (one club function last year comes to mind). You cannot carry players like this and no matter what people say Sheens cant be blamed for this one. He will probably go to another club and be a superstar, but the reality is, that will be because he will snap out of it and realise what a waste of talent he will be unless he does. Cant blame the club for this one, the player is solely responsible for it, they had no other option.

Depending on what he done time for if its totally unrelated and a minor crime i would say it wouldnt matter. But it would depend on circumstances.

It was for assault.

I say we nrl have to take each case on its merrits rather then doing what the police do with there blanket approach on it.

If the police get called to a address for domestic violence the person that didnt call the police will always get charged.

Most of these cases go to court and you get a slap on the wrist or a AVO SPECIALLY IF ITS YOUR FIRST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROBLEM.

No big deal and people shouldnt make a mountain out of a mole hill.

You dont think the fact that Laurie has been to gaol previously for assault may influence any court sentencing?

Detention Centre is a prison (Gaol).

I tell you what, that article you linked is a painful read in retrospect.

Daine Laurie -gone! Ch 10 news says he has been released by Wests Tigers and has signed with

the Panthers!

Daine Laurie signs with Panthers
September 23, 2009 - 6:08PM

Penrith have signed troubled Wests Tigers forward Daine Laurie to a two-year deal despite criminal proceedings into an alleged assault of his girlfriend.

Laurie appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday charged with assaulting his partner and mother of his two children at their Leumeah home last week.

He was released from the final year of his contract with the Tigers to take up the deal at Penrith.

"We have done a deal with Daine," confirmed Panthers chief executive Michael Leary.

"We have spoken with the Tigers and everything is fine (for a release).

"It's a court case now and we cannot discuss that.

"We think he is a great acquisition for the club."

The Tigers meanwhile have been active in the player market signing former Panther Junior Moors and Wigan utility Mark Flanagan for next year.

Englishman Flanagan can play halfback, five-eighth and lock and will fill the utility role vacated by John Morris who is off to Cronulla.

"Mark is a raw talent. There is plenty of improvement in him and hopefully under Tim Sheens, we can bring that out," said Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.

"He is a tough no-nonsense player with a strong work ethic."

The Tigers have an option to extend Flanagan's stay into 2011.

The 22-year-old Flanagan made his first grade for Wigan this year after joining the Warriors in 2007 from Bradford Bulls.

His father, Terry, represented Great Britain four times between 1983 and 1984.

Moors heads to the Tigers after an injury ravaged-season and the Tigers also have an option to extend his deal for a further year.

The 23-year-old forward played 24 first grade games for the Panthers but had his 2009 season ruined by a broken ankle in the club's first trial game of the year.

"Junior is looking forward to working under Tim Sheens and will push hard for a first grade front row position," said McDonnell.

Why do I have this sickly feeling he is going to go over to Penrith, start putting the effort into his career, and absolutely tear teams apart.

Well maybe and I wish him the best but I don't see it happening. I think if anything he's gone backwards in terms of his footballing development and I just don't see him making that leap to being a regular 1st grader.

I agree, I dont think Penrith is the place for him, ultimately the Tigers should have been a better fit. It will take a massive change **_on Danes part_** to turn things around. I hope that he isnt expecting Penrith to do it for him.

Hope this doesnt come across as nasty, but I also think it is telling that Penrith picked him up and not one of the heavyweights (Bris, Melb, Roosters, Manly etc.). Not that long ago his impact on debut and potential would have seen all the big guns after him but VERY quickly it seems that the interest in him has dwindled to just Penrith grabbing him.

Considering the attitude of Pritchard that the Panthers put up with I doubt this is a great move for Daine.

Moors is a tough no nonsense forward though

At least he can't make Penrith's record against us any better. For some strange reason we can't beat them with or without Laurie…

I think we are much better off without him, we have a very clean cut image and he just doesnt fit that… add in his lack of dedication/motivation and i think his time with us was up.

Id take Junior Moors any day

Dropping the ball 14 times in the first half of Leichhardt didn't help! I tend to think Daine will be spending a bit of time playing for Windsor.

i dont know anything from the inside, so i cant really comment on any of it .
all i can say is that from my point of view it looks like he is a guy who was just not psychologically equipped to be in any sort of public role - even as minor as a league player with 'great expectations' of him may seem in the grander scheme, it looks to me as though he has indulged in quite a bit of personal sabotage as a get out clause. :frowning:

it really really saddens me to see how the daine laurie story is unfolding, and even if he isnt with the tigers, i hope he can find peace and become not only the sportsman he could be, but the man.

One thing that stands out to me is his how clumsy he is catching a football.

He just can't catch. He normally has to stop his run to take the football rather then just powering on and using his hands.
