In the old days players were pretty much treated the same. Everyone did the same training, and everyone had the same rules.
These days things are different. Coaches realise the importance of specific training for a certain individual, and they also realise certain players need to be treated differently. For example, some players respond to criticism, while others need to be nursed along and told how good they are. Coaches often say that they feel like they need to be a psychologist as well as a coach.
For now, it seems as though Sheens has taken the hard road with Daine, and i dont blame him. But i have a funny feeling that Daine is the type of guy who could respond well to responsibility. If Sheens sat him down and said "look, u can never underestimate the hard work thats needed to succeed, but i know u can do it and be a one of our leaders if thats what u choose to do. Ill give u that chance next year, all u have to do is keep it." So instead of Laurie having to earn his way back, he's already there, he just has to aim up week in week out.
I know this sounds unfair, but im sure if he rises to the occasion, other players wouldnt mind his special treatment. I think its worth a try, and if it doesnt work, well it doesnt work, and he can go back to the bush for all i care. Sometimes a certain talent needs certain treatment, even if he doesnt deserve it.
