Geez he is old gets used alot, he is 3yrs younger than Tamou who we have him for another 2yrs.

The reality is we go after the shiny objects rather than the true players who we need that will make a difference. We have zero chance because a player like Dale is just to good for our club plain and simple. He is professional, isn’t an injury risk and plays 100% week in week out - his motor still has plenty of legs in it for a few years to come. He isn’t our type of player & wonder why.

Agree
Also we only have Tamou for next year so only a 2 year deal total.

Still 2 years, 3yr Dale term would be younger than Tamou when he finishes.

Don't have to convince me as I want him for his Leadership.. I cannot believe we are not at least trying to get him...

Spot on mate, I think some of our fans want to win a touch football championship. We need tough players, not snow flakes.

St George in at $850k for 3 years. A 29yo who whilst very handy, is not far away from hitting the wall pretty hard in my opinion.

If the drag queens want to put that sort of money into a contract which is basically 1/11th of the cap, be my guest. Ridiculous money….

You have got to be kidding , thats huge money.

It is . For a bloke that Craig Bellamy respects enough to make him club captain

Come on people wake up and smell the roses. We give blokes that much money to sit on the bench , leave games at half time cos their foot is cold, play reserve grade.

Can’t cop Dale Finucane bashers on here, the bloke has probably never let a soft try in like our guys do weekly, and he plays in NRL grand finals most years. Let’s be real.

Yeah mate lets be real. Ok, its a 50/50 call. He is great now. But he is 29. Finucane is a quality player, would love to have him here - but for $850k a season, maybe 5 years ago. He will always give his all but when you look at a Stefano on $266k a year, I know where I would prefer to spend the funds.

You can get Finucane and upgrade Stef. It’s a 9-10 million dollar cap. Well the good clubs can have more than one good player, somehow we can’t.

I've said this previously but 850k impacts your cap massively. Anything over 500k is a top salary. Just say you have 400k per squad to pay overs to however many players. That to me means excluding that money no player in your team is on 600k. That includes your spine positions.

There is no way in the world you pay that money to a player like Finucane. Melbourne would have him on 500k at best. That is why they win.

But we’re not Melbourne, we need a circuit breaker , it’s gotta be someone with a lot of respect throughout the game and someone who knows winning. There’s a reason the queue for him is around the block.

He will not come here but he’s 100% the type of player we need.

From the telegraph:

The Wests Tigers have lodged an 11th hour bid to sign the game’s hottest property Dale Finucane.

The Tigers have entered the race as it can also be revealed the Knights have ended their pursuit of the Storm and NSW Origin forward.

The 29-year-old’s current club, the Melbourne Storm, are also resigned to the fact that he will be departing the club at the end of this season.

It leaves the Tigers, Sharks, Dragons, Cowboys and Titans locked-in a multi-million dollar scrap for his signature.

All five clubs are believed to have tabled a three-year contract — but Finucane’s management have been pushing hard for an extra year to seal the deal.

Given the physical nature of the way Finucane has played the game and a recent history of calf problems, the majority of the suitors have been reluctant to go beyond a third year.

Regardless, Finucane’s new deal is expected to be in the vicinity of $2 million dollars - a healthy pay-day for a player who is widely respected for his leadership, work-ethic and cultural standards.

It’s understood the Tigers stepped up their bid to sign Finucane after missing out on Tevita Pangai Jr, who is on the move from the Broncos to Canterbury.

It could throw a late curve-ball to the drawn-out negotiations which was expected to be resolved this weekend after he went through the bids with his agent Andrew Purcell on Friday.

Saints sign Finucane after an agonisingly close, toss of the coin decision between similar, fantastic, multi-million dollar offers from the Sharks, Titans and Cowboys.
Tigers miss out.
Again.

Us reportedly being interested in Finucane is a pre empt story for journos to jump on when we miss out on him. Finnucane to us would be like Frizell to Newcastle - big dollars hard working - but no impact on the ladder.

So the big question is what does the club do to be at least semi competitive?

To me only go for these signings to make other teams pay more. Keep looking at quality development players and guys like Doueihi/Luc who are proven quality players but aren't getting good money or opportunities at their current clubs.

It's the Finucane signings on top dollar that mean we lose our quality development players to other clubs and it stops us getting other players.

I can't see an upside in "competing" for signatures you don't want, just to make other teams bid higher.

I do. I see everyone getting their panties into a knot but guess what those other clubs have to pay more.

I bet If we get him the calf problems will get worse and be another packer just what we need I don't know who we could go for but should be a lock in there prime or coming into it not someone looking for his last contract

Tigers miss out.
Again.

If saints sign him it will come down to a few things, close proximity to his home town so maybe family etc.
Money they are believed to be offering all of Vaughn’s money.

Though other than the knights I don’t see the Saints having the team to challenge for the top four but they maybe the closest out of the Titans, Cowboys and us.

We would be a million to one to sign Funicane. He would take less to go to either a stronger club or a club that is geographically more appealing. I think the Sharks will probably be his new home.

Perfectly setup for the articles: how the tigers missed Finucane by Michael Chammas

Why don't we just come out and state we are a development club and are not interested in these players who are chasing retirement money...Finucane is past his prime...we want players on the up not the down...

Well there is every chance we did put a bid in last minute like they said.
Wasn’t he supposed to have all his options on the table by mid week? Come Friday his making a decision and all of a sudden Newcastle are out because of Gagai. I’d say Ready got in touch with the Manager as he has been following it closely and confirmed all the contracts. Wednesday was the last time Newcastle was mentioned. So we snuck one in between Thursday and Friday.

Must be considering it to. If the other 4 were so strong he would of made a decision by now irrespective of our offer.

If we have made a bid we go hard or no point.
Honestly think we are no chance at all unless we break the money talks attitude we have had previously.

Most recent article on Thursday night mentioned Newcastle.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/07/22/power-of-two-payten-reveals-plans-to-pair-finucane-with-taumalolo/

An announcement is expected after Friday night's Cowboys-Storm match and if Finucane leaves Melbourne, Payten hopes he has done enough to lure him to Townsville after making an offer more than three weeks ago.

We need centre’s badly. Finucane is a beast but not sure he makes any difference when teams just spread early and pick us apart.
