Once our chances of playing finals are over (probably now), I’d give Mbye a go in the halves. Couldn’t be any worse than what we have, and if he is, then at least we’ll know not to try it next year.

I would drop him and make Benji captain for the remainder of the season. As captain he is more inconsistent than anyone. You can’t drop Brooks and Marshall for the same issues and give Mbye a free pass. Message has to be sent.

Oh i'm not saying it as a way of promoting him in some way. ***I'm just saying that with the season gone*** the difference between finishing 10th of 12th is inconsequential. We might as well take the time to try some new things in preparation for next year. Just my opinion.

Ye of little faith!!!

Exact same position as 2005 with 8 rnds remaining. Yes, weirder things have happened as history suggests.

Throwing in the towel now and simply giving up is no option and I believe the players feel the same.

This is not the 2005 side, if you think we can win 5/8 games and maintain for and against, hope other teams lose games expected to win, your dreaming.
If we finish where we are now 10th that what the expectation would be.

The team after 17 rnds in 05 were a mere shadow of the team that ran out on GF day. Something changed and they developed a sudden sense of belief in themselves.

My point is not to compare the end result of that season but to simply state that belief & attitude can change a whole season.

I guarantee you that with 8 rnds remaining in 05 the fan base would have been very surprised to make the 8 that year and there would have been zero discussion regarding winning the whole damn comp. Talk of re-builds and signing superstars would have featured just as much as now

Honestly, I think most of us have known from the start of the season that we didn't have the squad to compete against half the teams in the comp. The depressing thing is that through a few great efforts, sprinkled in with a lot of plodding, the team and coach manage to just get our hopes up enough to make us believe that we could maybe make the 8 and we get all fired up to believe it until the inevitable collapse comes and then "Groundhog Day", we are back to the drawing board. AGAIN.
I believe Madge is trying his best and many of the players are too, but truly most of our guys are simply not of the level of the players in the top 8 sides. When compared to the top sides our forwards get dominated regularly, putting pressure on our spine which is average at best, and our outside backs and finishers are not at the elite level. We have really no standout match winner types that can turn a game or win you a tight one, and most of these top sides have a number of them. In a post earlier this year I wrote that realistically we would have to play at close to 100% of our skill and ability in every game this season to have any chance of a shot and that is just too much to ask in the NRL.

We have 8 games left of which 6 are against top 8 sides. We haven't beaten a top 8 side all year

Perfect opportunity to buck the trend this week.

Momentum is a vicious beast. Once it changes it's hard to stop. Top of the ladder teams won't sustain this form continuously

Well your an optometrist or optimist, think we can win the next 2 maybe, but will be found out last 2 rounds, Storms, Eels.

The head agrees with this but the heart says if we gain momentum and belief on top of it then it won't matter who we play. Just flesh and bone wearing a different coloured jersey each week

Bugger that ..
I’d bench the imposter.

What I’m finding quite clear is there’s an element or fraternity of people within the NRL that make it very clear that there are the haves and have not teams in the NRL...

I mean when you have the likes of Phil Gould, Daley, Cronk and A.Johns etc who are basically directing players from a distance through their jobs in media and making ridiculous statements along the lines of don’t go to this particular club if you want to keep your representative career or don’t go to that club because I can’t see them taking you to the next level is a complete and utter disgrace.

And we're at the same odds 150/1

Like most forum members I have never played NRL. Daley won 3 Grand Finals, captained NSW and Australia and with Ricky Stuart formed one of the great halves combinations. Stuart might not be the nicest human but his will to win as player our team could only dream of. Had injections in his groin at half time in front of team mates to get back on the field.

The big name players on big coin are Brooks, Packer, Reynolds and Mbye.

Reynolds can just go. Mbye I'd legit pay him to play elsewhere at this point. If someone wants to chip in 3-400k for him then yep idc. Packer I think I'd offer him a 1 year extension on a lower salary. A "prove it deal". For me Brooks has til the end of his contract to prove he deserves it. Pick him and roll with him and Walters as the halves, or Douehi if we can find a better option at fullback. I don't think Douehi is gonna be a fullback long term. If anything he looks physically like he's going to end up a backrower. He's just grown a ton.

Go and poach the eyeballs out of 17-20 year old top rated halves and fullbacks elsewhere to give us some youth coming through as I don't think who we have down there at present cuts it. Give Marshall the tap. Give Lawrence the tap. Blood everyone. See what you've got.

It's no easy feat what we have ahead of us here.

Brooks in not on big coin for a halfback app $550K

Well i recall as a fan Round 19 was a bye so a guaranteed 2 points and expectations were how we performed after returning.
So not including the Bye we won 5/7 remaining games.
Three of those games were against 13 Souths/14 Canberra/ 12 Bulldogs so there was an air of expectation we could finish in the 8th / 4th was a bonus.
I also went to the semi final game against the Saints as i knew that was the make or break game, pleasantly surprised at airport to see cowboys up at half time against Parramatta, the rest is history and we are still living off it.
In reality we are the team with the longest track record now not making finals and Brooks is the highest game player with that award as well, says something.

The draw we have and the recent performance shows will fall short.
Hope your right but not building up any expectations now, Cheers.

He was also looking for a Job at the Tigers last season but was not allowed with his gambling media interests, the NRL said can't do both.

Once our season is over I'd give him a go at PROP for 80 min. and get him to actually do something for the small fortune we are paying him.

Out and out Bludger (another one).

So your saying a Mbye Jennings front row

There is a lot of talk about various players except for one ., the wonder boy in the 7 jersey on a long term contract and top dollar offering very little but fronting up each week to collect his wage , throw him into that list as well !

Cleary did the worst possible thing you could do to the club by signing long term big contracts and then leaving.

As much as I hate him, whoever allowed Ivan to do what he did to the roster should be gone. Someone should have said "we're not paying MBye 800k" or you can do that, but only for a short term deal.

Well, Sharks.

No way in the world should the Sharks be in the 8.
Crap team apart from their Captain and really landed on their feet with the softest draw.
