Dally M

My late weigh in on the Dally M.....

Not shocked by Tedesco winning....the guy is a gun and I doubt he would've won playing with us....

Extremely shocked that Smith won hooker of the year as well as captain. Apologies if this has been posted ad nauseum. The guy, while a great player, was nowhere near some of the other hookers like Cook, Hodgson are ahead of this guy despite Hodgson being injured for a good chunk. Captain of the year? I think Croker, Cherry Evans, Gutherson are hard done by.....
And Bellamy coach of the year? Please!!!! Hasler and Stuart should of won.
Just another NRL storm schmooze fest. I really believe the mentality of this cheapens the awards. I know it's done over the course of the season, but honestly and truly.....

My take away from the night beside the players we have lost is the award night show us exactly where we sit.

Out top Dally M scorers were

Matterson - hates us and wants out
Brooks - half our own fans dont even like him
Benji - a veteran
Thompson - no certainty to make the squad

Says it all. we lack young and exciting players and have a middle of the road roster.

I think that is a pretty negative view. I think it is more that we don’t have the superstar that attracts the votes. When we win (and get votes) it is normally a team effort and the votes get shared around.

I dont care about getting votes. I care very little for the awards. However the awards show exactly what you said. We have no superstars and our best players are not that great either.

We have a solid squad.

You can say the for at least 10 teams in the comp.

Ok cool. lets be like those losers

Yawn

My point is that it’s easier said than done to assemble a gun side. If it was, every team in the comp would have one. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try every way under the sun to try to achieve it, but the fact we are among a majority of teams who can’t shows it takes more than a click of a finger.

Have a good look at the top 5's Geo posted. Only about 3 teams have less stars then we have.

Dont just disagree with someone for the sake of it. His list proves everything i am saying.

Our main guy is Luke Brooks, thats it!

That’s your opinion, it’s not fact. We’re middle of the road. Where we finished on the ladder in 2019 supports that view.

Middle of the road. Thats what ive said.

As i also said dont just disagree with someone for the sake of it.

You said that there are only 3 teams who have less stars than us in your opinion. That’s implying we are below being a middle of the road team. Also, don’t take every disagreement you have with someone as if they are attacking you personally. It’s not just me, I see you do it with others too. It makes it look like you think your opinion is above being questioned. I had what I believed to be a fair argument, and I’d have argued it, regardless of who posted what you did.

There in lies the issue. You are reading something into my posts that just isnt there.

I never said we were one of the worst teams in the comp.

Ive said a million times 9th is about our position. Ive said we have a good solid squad who lacks exciting young talent. Geo's list adds to that. Our players who scored points add to that.

Im not happy with 9th.

Why do some clubs have 6 players. e.g. Donkeys, Bulldogs and Dragons.

Is it because 2 in each of those clubs are only half as good and so only count as one.

@GNR4LIFE I would rate Hasler this year completely. You saw how Trent Barrett had a team and environment he considered uncoachable.
He took them to the finals and was missing Tommy Turbo most of the time. He does this regularly while Stuart did this when he gets the team he wants (cronulla one time, Canberra now).

What is interesting is the 3 ex tigers he gets the most out of. We knew Taupau was a bulldozer, but he has found his next gear at manly. Curtis Sironen is a good second rower while with us he did not seem to fit well. We lack the ability to convert a ball playing 5/8 to the second row and this should have happened to Reynolds and Farah. It has worked for Lawrence and is a far better way to move on ball players that are a little too slow then the infighting we have seen.

Lastly Suli, a person with talent and the work attitude of the Mt Druitt Centerlink line. He has turned into the good center we knew he was.

It can actually be easier to win Dally M as a major contributor in a lower team, because your teammates don't nick your points. Look at Raiders, in GF, nobody above 18 points and Matto got 15 for us.

That's the whole point. I guess you're more forgiving than others. I can't stand the dishonest bugger. He shafted the club, his team mates and fans. Blatant lies, deception and generally being a turn coat doesn't sit well with me.

Never forgive. I dont care the reasons and I'm sure if you were in Tedesco's place you could understand. But fact is he left when he was our marquee player, I dont care on why and I dont care about the club situation at the time.

And he was our player from the start. It's like walking out on your family because they are a bit dysfunctional. Fans don't just get to walk away from clubs like players can.

Only way he is forgiven is if he returns. And logic has nothing to do with it, because supporting football teams is fundamentally illogical.

Yes have to agree with all of this. What both Hasler and Stuart did with their respective teams this year far outweighed Bellamy’s feats with an already strong Melbourne outfit, imo. Canberra could still be the Premiers yet! Smith...meh? I guess he always plays well and is an influential captain, but I didn’t think this was one of his best seasons and like you Luke, I think there were better choices this year, especially for hooker.

I was a bit surprised by Ken Maumalo’s selection as winger of the year also. Good player, but there were several better performing wingers, imo.

G'day @cktiger: no, it was a game at the back end of the season, maybe a semi-final game, I've forgotten now. But Moses got turned inside out on one occasion when a try was scored against Parra.
It was so embarrassing for Moses it was actually funny to watch.

I reckon Our Luke Brooks would have just flattened the guy.

Hasler perhaps, but not Stuart. The Raiders came fourth in 2016 and were probably the most exciting team in the comp. I expected them to really kick on from there and be a premiership force.

But with essentially the same squad in 2017 and 2018, they came 10th and 10th, which is pathetic given the squad he had assembled.

All he has done in 2019 is to get the Raiders back to where they should have been for the past three years.

Faf should've thrown the shoe at Greenberg .

Wonderful. Maybe these muppets could acknowledge him by setting up a testimonial game. Maybe they can buy his loved one a 15,000 gift.

Nah, let's hammer his club with a 2 year 650,000 fine for offering a post football career very similar to what Luke Lewis, Billy Slater, Tim Mannah, Anthony Minichello and dozens of others have entered into without consequences.

The sooner Beattie shuffles back to suckling off the taxpayer's teat, the more likely that the administration can actually improve, however I have no faith that will occur while the Bald headed flog has any decision making power in the game
