Danny Galea- Stay or Go??

Sheens would want him to stay. He is the only back that sheens has successfully turned into a backrower.

Look at his size.. he was always going to move into the second-row…

Some people just can't help themselves..

So centers aren't allowed to be big?

With Danny putting on some good size, i think his pace has suffered a bit from it. Personally i think he may be too slow for the TIGERS 3/4 line, when you look at the current roster of WT's backs.
His defence is his best attribute and WT's players at training know first hand how tough his defence is. He himself will tell you he enjoys playing in the centres and is still in disbelief he was ever played at prop.
His hands aren't the best in attack, but he can still be quite elusive with the ball in hand ala Gold Coast break this year.
I personally think he is a "work in progress" and we haven't seen the best of his abilities yet.

I think it is very fair to say he has was the 2nd best 2nd rower this season… Ellis obviously first...

Anyone thinking he is deadwood are kidding themselves... I think they are the same people who think Fulton will cover the gap he'll leave should he goes... :unamused:

That's me then.

Not only will Fulton make more tackles than any other player in the team, he is also a much better attacking player than Galea. Having said that, I would not mind if Galea stays.

Thats me too whats with the disrespect for fulton. :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

Thats me as well,I dont get the anti Liam stuff.

Cant wait to see him at lock now that we have some big boppers up front.

Big year for him IMO.

Liam adds speed and a good tackling ethic to the FG side in 2010\. Hopefully he has put on a little size. I reckon Galea can stay if paid base wage only…

The meeting place. :frowning:

If thats the case I would imagine he would take the place of Plumb and Canberra will certainly benefit from his aquisition

Isnt that your theory for Heighno as well? I think its a valid theory, but not sure we can afford to have 2 backrowers that will rely on the other 3 forwards to provide the size and go forward.

For me its either Fulton or Heighno at 13 and maybe the one who misses out can play a role off the bench, but that will remain to be seen

So he's leaving is he? If forced to choose between Danny and Liam I would go with Danny. I agree that in attack he is lacking - I don't believe Liam provides much more - but I think we'll miss him in defence.

i wouldnt be surprised if liam comes back and shocks us. he has been playing in the the halves alot in the 09 season over there. could be seeing some leadership and an alot better attacking game

With Fulton coming back I don't think we need Danny Galea. We have alot of depth for the second row. I wouldn't mind if we kept him though. He is a pretty good defender. We probably need another prop instead though.

Galea is much better value than Fulton. Fulton did nothing when previously with us. Galea is a much more dominate player tham Fulton.

Danny was a great player for the tigers this year. But IMO he is replaceable and like many people have been saying Liam Fulton will easily replace him in the back row. He has been playing 5/8 in the ESL and has really come along as a player. I think he will prove to be a standout in season 2010 for the tigerrs and provide great ball playing options and take some pressure of the halves.

its going to be one of those hard decisions that a club has to make at times, in whether Danny G remains at wests-tigers.
maybe he could stay on a reduced or back-loaded contract.

Raiders sign Danny Galea
Wednesday, 4 November 2009
The CFMEU Canberra Raiders have welcomed experienced former Wests Tiger Danny Galea to their squad for 2010, after he agreed to a new one year deal with the Green Machine today.
>
Galea, 26, comes to the Raiders as a back rower but can also play centre, giving the Raiders another player who can fill the utility role.
>
With the retirement of Glen Turner the departure of Phil Graham, Adrian Purtell and Nigel Plum, Galea brings some much needed experience to the Raiders squad and said he’s looking forward to the challenge of playing for the Raiders.
>
“All the facilities down here are fantastic and I look like I’m going to be given a good opportunity to play some more NRL footy at the Raiders and I can’t wait to get into it,” Galea said. “I just want to get on the field first and get myself a position whether it is starting or on the bench and then hopefully help the team get down to winning some games which is the main thing.”
>
Galea said he had spoken with former teammate Bronson Harrison on the advantages of living in Canberra and playing for the Raiders and said he liked what he heard about the club on and off the field.
>
“I spoke to Bronson before he went overseas and he told me how much he enjoys it down here and the change in the way he’s playing his footy shows its working for him down here,” he said. “Just speaking to a few of the other players you can see it’s a real tight knit group down here and I’m looking forward to getting involved.”
>
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the club was excited about having a player with Galea’s ability on the books and looked forward to him joining the club for pre-season training.
>
“With the unexpected retirement of Glen Turner we needed someone to fill his position and with Danny he can also play centre which will help with the departure of Phil Graham and Adrian Purtell he covers both,” Furner said. “We’ve got a young backline and some young backrowers as well so he gives us some experience on the edges.”
>
The Raiders will Commence their pre-season training tomorrow (November 5).

It's go….....awaits Kaiser's wrath.......

So we now have only one back rower who packs a punch in defence.

Oh well I will be interested to see how it all pan out regardless

It will be very interesting to see how it all pans out. Maybe Payten will be used only as a backrower, and while he doesnt hit as hard as Danny, he does defend very well. However, i dont think Payten suits us as a backrower.

I see 3 possible scenario's for next year:

1.Sheens uses both Heghno and Fulton in the starting pack :frowning:

2.He uses Payten as a backrower :frowning:

3.A young gun like Mataka, Akeripa or Dwyer will come in 😛ray:
