Used to love the passion this guy showed on the field. White line fever. One of the old gaurd who could hold his head up high. Was unlucky not play Origin as he would have been really suited to the contest.

Does anyone know what he is up to these days?

Played one of the bravest games I can remember. Was up all night spewing his guts up, came out the next day and put in a MOM performance in when we upset the Dogs in round one of 2002. Had great vision out of dummy half, but didn’t have the speed to execute.

Anyone remember the try he scored against the Raiders at Ctown one day. We got a penalty a metre out from their line. He took a quick tap and literally fell over the line before the Raiders could react. They just stood there.

Might have lacked the speed but so did Mick Ennis. Similar players in my book. Darren just played for the wrong team.

Or wrong state as he would have been a Qld origin great if born on the other side of the border.

Interested in what he is up to?

Edit: he doesn't look like he's aged a day! Good jeans! 😉

Vividly remember him as the full-time siren sounded in the '05 GF standing with Sheens. The look on his face showed he was happy but was probably thinking "I should've been out there". He only retired at the end of '04 from memory, pretty sure he played backrow once Robbie made the 9 jersey his own?
Great player to watch, wholehearted effort every week. And his big cheesy smile was never far from his face, cheeky bugger.
Remember him playing half a game with a badly broken hand, he was a gutsy bloke.

He used to give 110 per cent But an origin hooker please

Dean Young played a game or 2 at hooker in Origin didn't he? Senter was every bit his equal IMO. If you play for the right club, doors will open.
Mbye has played SOO at hooker too IIRC?

You are right when you say sometimes what club you play for helps imo senter wasn’t up to origin standard dean young wasn’t either

Dean Young is up there as one of the most overrated footy players.

Dean Young was lucky his old man was a talented footy player. Thats what got him a gig

Don't get me wrong I loved him as a player but I'm sure the refs had it in for him. Probably because he liked to argue with them.

His surname is what got him rep honours.

He played there from 2001 onwards when Lamb preferred Mescia at 9. Another underrated hard as nails type player.

Exactly my point. I don't get our fans who down play the strength of our old players. Senter would have carved up at origin and be known as a tough sob

Probably because we were a dead set average team and that doesnt cut it.Cam Smith would have copied the same

Was Craig Young any good? I know he played quite a bit of Origin and Test footy but from the bits and pieces of old games I've seen of him he looked ordinary IMO. Loved how Roy and HG used to refer to his "bum on" running habit where he hit the defensive line arse-first?.
