David Gower finally given a go

ROUND 26 - TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
Tuesday, September 01, 2009
Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens has announced his team to play the Bulldogs in the Round 26 match at the Sydney Football Stadium this Friday night.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers forward David Gower is set to make his NRL debut on Friday night after being named on the interchange bench. Gower has been impressive for the Tigers in the NSW Cup and also was rewarded with selection in the NSW Residents side earlier this year.

**John Morris moves to the half-back role to replace the injured Robert Lui.**

Lui has been ruled out with a minor knee ligament strain but is likely to be available to play for the Toyota Cup team in Week One of the semi-finals.

Western Suburbs centre Rhys Pritchard has been named as 18th man for the Bulldogs match.

If you're going to hit the iceberg you might as well go full speed.

My chest hurts from laughing at this comment.

REALLY happy Gower has been given a chance.

He should have been there MONTHS ago and it's a freaking disgrace that we've gone into so many games one prop short whilst he's been killing it for Balmain (State player on the year contender).

Don't be surprised if Gower does not perform up to expectations this match.
Sheens has a habit of letting players run rampant for months on end in scintillating form at State Cup level then bringing them through against a tough 1st grade team to make them look sub-standard. Then drop them back to lower grades to rot for eternity.
In my books, if a player is in red hot FORM at SC level they should be brought through for a taste WHILST they have their confidence and form up.

Good post CT….so true, it won't be the first time he has done that....David won't let himself or the WT team down....he is a workhorse

Well Alad, i am quietly confident as you are. I can not recall EVER a match where Gower has let his team mates down.
But in saying all this i do recall the EXACT same scenario with Ryan Tandy, a bloke who wasn't good enough for the Fonz, but forced to leave and play for another club in Melbourne who is playing FINALS FOOTY alongside Jeff Lima..

My prediction: Gower will play five minutes, or maybe not at all.

Just like Jeffery in 2007.

i was going to watch the game live until i seen our number 7.
i have had enough near heart attacks this season, i do not need round 26 to be another one.
sheens is seriously starting to lose some respect from his fans.

Well done to David. Hopefully he will get some more minutes than what Ben Jeffrey did a couple of years ago?
