David Nofoaluma #164

Good to have it resolved prior to the start of the season. Im in the camp of if its for reasonable cash (<$450K) and preferably the last year CO, its good to have a (visibly) loyal junior and good player retained.

I dont think that its any coincidence that it is finalised the day after Mansour signed with Souffs. To me it looks like a game of musical chairs and when the music stopped Parra were left standing.

This is awesome news. A great player. Professional clubman. Someone who works hard and bleeds for the club. Remember this is a bloke that Madge DROPPED and that came back afterwards and was our player of the year and Dally M Winger of the Year a season later. Re-signing him was necessary as it says a ton about our culture, our club and our coach.

Anyone complaining about this needs to pull their head out of the sand and actually be a supporter for once instead of a Chicken Little sky is falling dipstick all the time. This is one of the greatest Tigers of all time, our current best damn player and he re-signed in his prime on a reasonable contract. If you're gonna complain about this then I feel bad for those around you honestly.

Completely agree, way too many drama queens and Monday morning qb’s on this forum

Seriously?
One of the greatest Tigers of all time?
Our best player?
You’re right about one thing... he re-signed on a reasonable contract - for him!
Once I pulled my head out of the sand and was actually a supporter of the club, and not one player, I soon realised that in a few years time we’ll be in exactly the situation Penrith were in with Mansour- a slow, short, winger way past his prime eating up cap space.
I would have no problem if it was 3 years with the last in our favour.... but really, do you really think Dave will be our first grade winger in 2025?
If he is then God help us.

Lol . As long as it’s 4 for 2 million or below . Who gives a rats but hole! That’s his value . I was fine to let him walk if he wanted the 600k reported . I was fine to pay him 500k . Either way I’m happy this is resolved . Now we can move on to getting Angus Chrichton over the line . As I honestly think that lock/ edge back rower are our only long term weakness . As we have Madden , Brooks, Doueihi , Tannous , the young kiwi half we just signed , in the halves and Laurie and Dillon , at fullback . And honestly I actually think with Simpkins and that Tuilagi , and the Big Fijian from the sharks , we probably have edge back towers sorted in the next few years as well. Just basically lock now . There is some talent in this club now . It hasn’t looked this stacked in a long time . If anyone knows MLB , it’s like we have a Tampa Bay/ Seattle Mariners farm system , with some absolute guns on the way .

Who’s Dillon, have I missed a signing somewhere?

So it’s 4 more years plus a 5th option? If we include 2021-2022 season?

3 years starting 2022
1st 2023
2nd 2024
3rd 2025

Usually when the club says at least until, it means there is an extra year as player or club.

So don’t be surprised to see Nofa running around in our 2026 season.

Don’t think there’s a fifth year option. His contract will run out after the 2025 season - the ‘at least’ is probably just leaving it open to the possibility that he could be re-signed again.

Logen Dillon, he’s a 20’s player won’t be ready for a few years at least, if he does make it to NRL level

All things considered...particularly the fact that we seem to be unable to sign elite players from other clubs...I think his retention boosts our cred and is an important signing for a number of reasons
..not the least of which is hes our only proven NRL winger, and one of our few players who can regularly beat his opposite number.
We probably paid too much for too long...yep...but no point saving zillions on the cap next year and fielding a substandard team &descending to the bottom of the ladder just to please the accountants
Well done WTs

Yeah, no club option going on there...

Given Lee's earlier comments on Nofo it appears likely he overruled Hartigan and Madge on the length of the contract.
I'm happy to have Nofo locked up for the long-term. He plays a big role in our culture and it's important to reciprocate that in his contract, especially given our handling of previous players in the past.

Why, what were Hartigan and Maguire's desired lengths of the contract?

Congrats Wests Tigers. Another good signing and great to keep a bloke whose heart is in the club.
Regarding defence - yep he makes poor choices at times but honestly, the whole squad needs to work on defence. It’s not just a Nofoaluma issue. Back end of the year our defence was nonexistent. I’m fairly confident that Maguire would realise this😜

There are wingers still playing at age 31 and over. Anthony Donn, Jordan Rapana, Brett Morris.. That’s all I could find but there have been old wingers in the past. The knights had McDougal , played until he was 36 I think? But he was a real health fanatic, made his own smoothies.

Media reports stated the club and Nofo couldn't agree on the length of contract with 3 years initially offered before he accepted this 4 year contract.

So, was it up to Lee to break the deadlock?

That’s a shame. Still think we’ll be okay, although would be nice to know the $ of the deal lol
