I’m shocked how much Nofo negativity there is in this thread.

Nofo is the heart and soul of this club. He contributes the most on AND off the field.

And all that aside he is an elite winger. Without a doubt top 5 and I would argue top 3. Who’s better...JAC and maybe Tupou. Who else?

He absolutely deserves to be paid as an elite winger. We’ve seen the club draw a line in the sand and refuse to pay overs so I have full confidence Hartigan and Madge will get it right here.

Jesus if you’re a Tigers fan and you don’t love Nofo then IMO you’re doing it wrong.

Jac and Tupou are not even on $400'000 a year
I think Jac is on $350'000 and Tupou on less
So if the two guys are better than Nofoaluma then I think Nofoaluma should take $450'000 from our cap maximum
And thats being generous based on other wingers abilities and salary
If Nofoaluma is able to get a long service player allowance then by all means I would top it up
But I am not sure he is able to get that at the moment
If he signed a 3 year contract with us now that would surely get him up to 10 years at witch point he would be in line for a payment of up to $200'000 outside the cap
So that being said, $450'000 x 3 years = $1'350'000 plus add $200'000 for his final year and you have a total of $1'550'000 over 3 years
Now that's top $ for a winger of Nofoaluma's ability
To put it into perspective
I believe we would easily get Sivo for $450'000 a year
Take the clubman out of it, who would you prefer

Now I hope Nofoaluma stays, I really do
But we must be smart with our contracts otherwise we will never make the 8 yet alone win a grand final

What ever happens, I hope a decision is made very quickly
We dont need Nofoaluma and his Manager dragging this on
Or it wont look good

You do realise that both JAC and Tupou are on 500k+ next season, right? I think you don't....

Nof is far inferior to these two.

People also have to remember that if we roll over and pay Nof an extra 50k, then every other player will expect the same treatment and will hold out for that topup, rather than take the contract at the value they're worth.

“You do realise that both JAC and Tupou are on 500k+ next season, right?“

Where did you get that information? Storm have apparently agreed to a $100k - $125k increase if Smith doesn’t play on?
Who would know anyway?
There was a time when Gagai was supposedly the highest paid winger on something like $700k. A shift back to centre could fix that though. ?
I think Nofa is looking for a super top up? He has been shopping around since November. Would not surprise me to see him in ESL.

Addo car has been on $350'000

I think it's important to add context to JAC's signing with Melbourne.

IIRC it was only going to cost the Tigers $80,000 to sign him when he left. JAC would have thought he'd hit the jackpot getting anything like $350k (remembering he'd played basically no first grade because of JT playing Rankin in front of him). His truth worth will be seen in his future contract, not his current one.

When Melbourne signed him he was an untested, skinny speedster on a very low wage. The fact he's blossomed means it was Melbourne who hit the JACkpot.

We can only hope we have similar luck with Laurie or some of the other young kids we've picked up.

Pretty disappointed with the majority of responses in this thread.

He's an integral part of our team, bleeds for the club and plays his heart out every time he steps on the field. On top of that he's easily in the top 3 wingers in the game at the moment, him winning the dally m makes that an undisputed claim. He would not be easily replaced

If we lost him it would be dark days for the club. Let's hope the club and him come to a resolution sooner than later

Hardly dark days that’s a tad dramatic...One of best traits WT have developed over the years is just how resilient we have become.

As David has said.
“I obviously love the Wests Tigers and the fans, you can tell by my passion.”
“But in reality, I am heading into what could potentially be my last contract.
“I am going to explore all my options and weigh up what’s the best decision for myself and more importantly my future.”

So regardless of the outcome we win either way as far as I’m concerned. We have a plethora of young players coming through and if he stays we get to kept a great clubman...

400k range salary is not high end or top dollar. It’s a fair price. Run the club by offering Roosters and Storm salaries and we will have NSW Cup Players. In time we can do that but atm players want more to play with the Tigers.

It’s the reality people are big being realistic. You have to build the club before you can dictate salary structures as a preferred destination club.

It’s our in the sky and delusional to think we won’t pay more than the Roosters for the same player.

If you pay him more than he is worth, you have to be consistent across the roster. Player managers will quickly pick up on this and we will be back in salary cap difficulties. The Club has valued him and if he doesn't agree he can chase dollars elsewhere.

exactly pick your targets an example Luciano Leiluia will likely want an upgrade at next contract.
Same as Luke Brooks etc they all have a price point
Scott Woodward is now with the club from Melbourne as a rugby league analyst so head hartigan will work out a price point

That's great when Nofoaluma re-signs you agree on Woodward's and Hartigan's price point for him..

they either sign him or they dont could be overs knowing this club they will give nofo overs and we miss out on better buys.
In order to agree on price point for nofo would need to know what that is first ...

if it is a reasonable offer not overs, I guess hartigan and Woodward to work out what is overs for nofo hoping it is not a cwnt past 450k

For those wondering the following players qualify for the veteran allowance in 2021 (from what I can tell):
- David Nofoaluma
- James Tamou
- Joseph Leilua
- Russell Packer (?)

The allowance of $200K can be spread between these four players (can be used how the club sees fit). It means we can theoretically offer $50K more to Nofo than any other team. This lines up with the reported $500K (last week reported at $450K, now $500K).

Packer doesn't qualify, it has to be 10 continuous years.@Geo beat me to it.
