Controversial, but Id also consider a subsidized Croft swapping for Walters effective immediately
1Walters not available until mid season, and its unlikely we re-sign him for 22. Hasnt got it by 28 he aint ever gonna get it.Time to cut and run if weve get a suitable halves back up.Which leads me to..
2)Broft totally surplus to Bris requirements and needs a fresh start.Personal issues +coach misfit played a role in his performance this yr.They want him out
3) We atm have no back up halves...Doehi unproven at 6 and Brooks a mystery and needs challenging.Mbye/Momo at 5 is ridiculous

I agree with this. He would add good cover for many positions, and would be subsidized by the broncos to get him off their books.

I sort of agree with this. Brodie Croft is a myth . Can do a job , but I hope he’s not the “brooks “ replacement , or heir apparent like I dunno Blake Lazarus , Jacob Miller etc.

some pundit made the point earlier in the year saying melbourne don't keep the duds....

Shamdoor Earl is firmly in the dud category. He stunk it up there for a few seasons

That was typical Storm, he was bought for a purpose and he served that purpose well,

To purposely be a dud? Haha, I like it!

Back up depth

I’d be getting on the front foot and offering Xavier Coates 450K for 2022.

Was that Xavier Coates playing on the right wing against at Leichhardt ? The one who, when the Broncos had a line drop out, ran infield, tackled nobody and left Luciano with a unopposed run down the sideline to score in the corner ? It was one of the worst pieces of football I saw all season.

If Nofo did that this place would have gone into meltdown. And you want to offer him $450k.

Fear is we will lose nofo and end up with some dud.

That won't be enough to lure Coates away. Mansour is a dud, no thanks.

I open the Nofoaluma thread to check on Nofoaluma and related wingers..

Not Brody Croft so they have been moved..

Hi fellas I've come here looking for the Brody Croft thread?

It's been moved to the "Where is Smoking Gun" thread.

Which is right next to the iwasright thread.

Just thinking about Madge and his elusive search for combinations during the last 2 seasons. One combination which we no longer have is Benji/Nofa. Benji with the cut out rainbow or kick to the corner for Nofa would not have been too obvious to the defence. A plan no doubt hatched on the golf course? Bloke in the bar asked Nofa.. who else do you play golf with?” “Just Benji”“who else plays golf at the WT?” Nofa replied “I don’t know.” Does anyone else think that it is odd ? I mean why isn’t golf played by more of WT players?

I'm not sure it's weird if no other WT players play golf
But I do think it's weird that Nofa doesn't know if any other players play golf
Sounds a bit like the old boys club that used to exist

Mansour is no dud..has been a Kangaroo & SOO winger, but they are the key words..."has been"...?
He was outplayed by JAC in GF no doubt(as was every other opponent),but at 31 I suspect hes a lot more of a complete package than any of the tyros weve had on the wing in 2020 whom we slavishly applaud(before they disappear without trace)despite their clumsy hands/lack of speed/inability to take a high ball whatever.
There are no NRL standard current wing options outside Nofo atm...and he mite be gone too
I dont like hiring 31 yo wingers(or 31 yo anythings tbh)..but not quite as much as not liking making the 8.We have too many centres and too few genuine wingers

I used to play Golf, now with rather latge youngish Family its increasingly difficult to get the daypass.

Plus, tended to play with non work mates to sort of get away from work.

Back to the OP. Benji Nofo combo was pretty goid when it came off but theres a few times they made me swear at the TV.

I used to play 3 days per week, occasionally by myself, when the kids came along I cut it to a Friday afternoon 9 hole derby with a few guys from work, then eventually gave it away to work 7 days per week to get the kids a good education.
Had a look at all of Nofa’s 2020 tries, some he created by himself that not many wingers could have done, but Nofa certainly made Benji look good on some.

Ive gone the full 360 on Mansour and heres why
1)Our squad has no specialist wingers apart from Nofo-were comsistently trying to manufacture centres into wingers,so if AK doesnt kmake it youll see Talau of Momo...or Cini.Truth is theyre not fast enuff.Mansour wld be as quick as Nofo, better defender but not quite as good as tackle breaker. He cld be useful subject to fitmess
2)JAC aint coming..were dreaming..and theres nobody else worth chasing apart from Garret whom we shld have leveraged Aloi for..history
3)Theres a 50/50 chance Nofo (already overpaid at $450 given his defensive issues)will join Eeels...knowing we have few options, were at his mercy.A 2 yr Mansour contract is a lot like the Morris Bros plugging a gap
4)Our backs, despite reshuffled deckchairs, are the same ones that sstruggled to score in 2020 despite Benjis 22 try assists.Mansour provides some improvement
So all things considered...Mansour adds value for 2 years on any other option we may have

I have a differing opinion.
1) I dont believe it's 50/50 that Nofo is gone at all.
2) I understand the link between a stop gap 2 year contract 'just like the Morris boys' - but Mansour is not even close to that league, which makes any stop gap arrangement with Mansour questionable.
3) Penrith were very keen to move Mansour on. So much so that I understand they have been trying to do so for at least 12 months because his defence is very suspect and he just doesn't fit in. That's and insiders comment from the Panthers, not mine.

I actually like Mansour for his personality and what he might bring in that regard. As a player, his best days were 5 years ago. If I could get him at minimum wage with the promise that you might not play 1st grade all year barring injuries, I'd think about it. But he doesn't want to do that and he has publicly stated that.

I honestly think we would be better served paying Chris Lawrence (not as a player) the $100K to be the mature voice and trainer/coach/encourager of those outside backs.

I'd pass on Mansour, sorry.

I don’t think we can rely on class wingers getting us into the 8 (or 4). Surely having a pair of reliable wingers that allows us to invest more in the spine/backrow to create opportunities out wide is a more productive way to spend our cap. We have committed to Laurie (3yr deal from 22) so let’s just bring both to the club early and if Mansour gets out competed for the wing spot so be it but I got one don’t want to be waiting another year or two to get some success. On a good deal (2 years with Penrith contributing) its extremely low risk
