David Nofoaluma #164

Not a chance in hell you'd give Nof a 4 year deal on 500k. 3 year deal max. No increases whatsoever. 3 years at 450k is the absolute highest we should possibly offer.

We have to learn our lesson from being played by managers in the past.

This is exactly how I see it. We look to be paying top dollar and if that is the case we have to reduce the length of the contract to mitigate the risk to us.

Exclusive: South Sydney target Tigers star David Nofoaluma as Corey Allan joins Bulldogs

The Wests Tigers face a fresh fight to retain Dally M winger of the year David Nofoaluma with the South Sydney Rabbitohs poised to make a play to sign the robust speedster for 2022.

Nofoaluma had a breakout 2020 season for the Tigers, scoring 17 tries in 20 NRL matches and collecting the club’s best and fairest Kelly-Barnes Award award.

With Corey Allan switching from South Sydney to Canterbury-Bankstown effective immediately as of Monday, the Bunnies are now eyeing off making a play to lure the Wests Tigers winger for next season.

Queensland State of Origin debutant Allan trained with the Bulldogs on Monday after agreeing to a three-year deal to play under Trent Barrett at Canterbury-Bankstown.

Nofoaluma enjoyed his most consistent season in the NRL last year with Fox Sports Lab numbers confirming the Dally M winger of the year made 112 tackle busts, 19 line breaks and seven try-assists.

His 112 tackle busts ranked 4th in the NRL and the seven try-assists were equal first with NSW Origin flyer Josh Addo-Carr for most try assists from a winger.

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipanetlis enjoys an extremely tight bond with Nofoaluma and is adamant the Tigers will do everything within reason to ensure the local junior remains at Concord.

“I had dinner with David last night where I reaffirmed the club’s commitment about how we want him to be at the Wests Tigers for life,” Hagipantelis said.

“We absolutely want David to be a one club player and he’s told the club this is also his preference.”

The sticking point for Wests Tigers is the length of Nofoaluma’s new contract. The club wants to sign the 27-year-old to a three-year deal until the end of 2024.

But Nofoaluma’s agent Sam Ayoub is pushing for a four-year deal.

The off-contract Tigers winger has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Parramatta Eels to replace Blake Ferguson at the end of this year but this has been strongly refuted.

Both South Sydney and Wests Tigers have also been linked with Panthers grand final winger Josh Mansour.

Mansour has been told by the Panthers he is free to leave to join a rival NRL club.

The Rabbitohs confirmed Allan’s release from the remainder of his contract on Monday.

“His preferred position, and his best position, is fullback and the opportunity to play in that position on a regular basis is not there with us.” Head of football Mark Ellison said in a statement.

“He feels he will have a better opportunity to play fullback at his new club, on an extended and improved deal than that which he had with us,”

“We felt it would be unfair to stand in the way of Corey progressing his career somewhere else, he will always be a Rabbitoh, and we wish him and his partner Teigan all the best for the future. “

It's not about about the terms of the contract, or even the years.

It's about the dollars. Nofa wants to get paid.

So the question is - What is Nofa realistically worth to our or another club?

How do you know ? I’d prefer a little less for 4 years if I knew I was a winger , and it’s definitely a young mans position. Especially when you see how 31 year olds are treated in the nrl . Sauce is exhibit A for this .

His management and PR team have been pretty clear.

He wants more money based on being the 2020 Dally M winger of the year whilst he rolls into a potentially lucrative contract in 2022.

WTs offered him a new contract in late November, but we haven't heard anything since.

I'm going to make a calculated guess that we offered him $500k but he wants more.

Pretty sure we'll all know Nofa's decision by the end of the month.

500 for Nofa just doesnt sit right. One good season out of 6 and talk of a 4 year deal at 500k for a 27 year old winger.

Money aside, 3 years max with the third year in the club's favour is the only logical choice. Nofa seems like a good clubman but if he can get better than that at the bunnies, good luck to him.

Yes Nofa one way or other should be settled. The fact its gone this far i think shows the club won''t budge'.They have set the bar,and are concentrating on trials and future additions .I don't think they worry either way.

As much as we all hate Hooper, he's actually on the money a fair bit.

I wouldn't say we all hate him, I don't mind him however I understand why others don't.

I agree with the club on 3 years max. With the salary cap concession we should hold out other clubs advances unless he really wants to go which it sounds like he doesn't.

There is no salary cap concession. It's not per player. It's for the whole team and we will get it anyway.

We still have Nofa under conract this year,.He is an average to good on days.He had a good year last year.At the end of this year we have wingers coming through ,and a stack off contract we can buy for the same money.I doubt if he would get more money in 2022.

At some point it becomes better to lose a player doesn't it. The top clubs don't go out and pay that amount for wingers. I suppose the Dogs have done this with JAC.

I still hope we keep him but the risk here appears to be all on us.

Exactly, regardless of the how tight the bond is between Nofa and Lee it’s about two things 1. The dollars. 2. The length of the contract. Wouldn’t matter if the only thing separating them was a 5 micron layer of super glue, it’s all about the money and Nofa is holding out trying to get the maximum outcome. I’m pleased some are starting to realistically assess Nofa’s value.

@JC99 said in [David Nofoaluma](/post/1291195) said:
The main takeaway from this article is the fact it sounds like Nofa wants to stay and the club wants him, but it’s down to the length of his contract. To be fair, if he got a 4 year deal (on presumably good money) he would be 32-33 by the final year of his deal which isn’t ideal for the club, so can understand them only wanting 3 years.

I don’t think Allan leaving means they’ll chase Nofa either. He was their backup fullback more than a winger, and **they didn’t chase JAC earlier who’s a better winger and probably a similar price, so I don’t see how they’ll suddenly want Nofa now** unless they’ve decided not to stick with Jaxson Paulo.

That makes sense
Unless Bulldogs trumped souths deal for Addo-Carr

But one thing is for sure
This is leaving a bad taste in my mouth
We are no doubt getting screwed by Dave and his manager
Either Dave wants to accept our offer or he doesn't
The fact he his still taking offers tells me he will leave for a better offer
Now Either he wants to be here or he doesn't
If he is doesn't then the club should be looking elsewhere now
Or we will once again get left behind again
Ferguson anyone

Or is this souths doing by trying to force Mansour into Signing before he misses out on a genuine premiership contender

Mansour would cost souths $300'000 max
Nofoaluma would cost souths in excess of $450'000
Will they have the money
Let me guess
Corey Allan was on $500'000 🤥

Do we get money back for past performances

The following is a warning for superannuation investment
It should be applied to resigning of David Nofoaluma

"Past performance is no guarantee of future results" is generally treated as a warning label: Don't assume an investment will continue to do well in the future simply because it's done well in the past. "Past performance is no guarantee of future results"
