Time to move on from Nofa. He hasn't re-signed and the writing is on the wall.
In late November his manager made it known that he wanted more coin because it was (apparently) his last chance for a contract.
Which is rubbish, he's 27 and he has at least 2 NRL contracts left + an opportunity to play ESL at the back end of his career.
Since then all we've heard is dead air.
His managers attempt to lift his price was PR jargon and we were right to offer him what he's worth
- max $450-500K.
In my opinion that's even too much. One decent year versus five average years doesn't make you a quality top 5 NRL winger.
Nofa and his manager are playing games and we should stick to our guns and promote AJ /Talau or even Momo to the right wing if he decides to defect and sign up with the Eels or Bunnies.
Sorry for being ignorant, but when was that one good year again?
He won the Dally M winger last year, which I can't deny, however he hasn't proven to be a consistent strike winger across his entire career.
If he decides to leave us I feel confident we have the talent to fill his position.
Leck, I’m slowly losing faith in the value of awards as a means of evaluating performance. I guess I saw more of Nofa than I did of other wingers, but I don’t think that’s how he got the award is it? Didn’t he get the award because the DallyM judges gave him points compared to WT players performance? Our team performance was regrettable but Nofa’s highlight reel was a tribute to his skill and that of other players around him. A good winger competes for the high ball. Rowdy did a better job of that than Nofa. A good winger scores tries, which he did, 17 of them, but he let in 23, making him the worst defensive winger in the nrl . Jennings was so much better defensively than Nofa.
The DallM winger award carried no weight with Blues selectors.
I completely agree with you and in my opinion our Dally M points system is flawed.
It's solely based on a panel of three judges who can be biased at times.
I'd like to see it based upon a points system which collates data for both the front and back row.
For example -
**Primary Score**
**Most meters gained:** 1 point
**Most offloads:** 1 point
**Most line breaks:** 1 point
**Most line break assists:** 1 point
**Most tackles made:** 1 point
**Most kicks and effective meters gained:** 1 point
**Most missed tackles:** -1 point
**Most errors made:** -1 point
**Most penalties conceded:** -1 point
**Try scored:** 2 points
**Judges Score** (3 X judges allocate these points)
**Plays that change the game** (e.g. an outstanding attacking or defensive play, a kick from the sideline or a last second field goal to win the game): 2 points
**Overall player of the game:** 2 points
Whilst this might sound complicated we live in 2021 and can easily create algorithms which produce instant in-game data.
A system like this would ensure the Dally M was based on facts rather than just the opinions of judges.
In terms of Nofa, I think he should have made the NSW squad even if only on the bench, but I also think his defense was probably a liability that Freddy didn't want to take a punt on.
If the NRL produced weekly in-game Dally M data, who knows maybe the winners and our NSW squad would have looked different and won.
That SuperCoach point scoring is really no more efficient. In fact any individual accolades or selections will never be perfect in a team sport, because a great team makes individuals shine.
I'm not sure about that, I think we can refine it and make it much more fan friendly + interactive.
Imagine seeing each player judged live and in-game (+1 or -1 per player per criteria) judged by you?
You decide via a live app, the NRL collates your votes, and then 3 x NRL judges have the final 30% vote.
For me , it's a win/win and no-brainier for fans, the NRL and how we judge the Dally M in years to come.
