Wests Tigers wish to advise Mr David Trodden has stepped down from his position as Club Chairman.

Approaching the conclusion of his term in the annual rotating role as Chairman of the Wests Tigers, Mr Trodden said his decision was motivated by the need for Board renewal as the Club enters a new era.

Mr Trodden announced his decision to bring to a close his eight-year tenure as Chairman or alternating Chairman at a meeting of the Club’s Board last night.

“I hold a view that it is healthy for any organisation to have regular reinvigoration by bringing new people into leadership positions with fresh ideas and enthusiasm,’’ Mr Trodden said.

“In my view, as much as I have a very strong emotional attachment to my Club, no one person owns senior board positions at the Club and everyone has an obligation to make sure that the Club has access to new people and new perspectives.

“With the ARLC structure bedded down, the new funding arrangements for NRL Clubs flowing from the League’s broadcast rights deal in place, the decision to field one combined Wests Tigers team in next season’s NSW Cup competition and the appointment of a new NRL coach, our Club is entering a new era. Now is the appropriate time for me to step aside from the role.”

Mr Trodden added Football Clubs should be run from football proceeds rather than expecting Leagues Clubs to fund them.

“We have positioned the business to the point where it can be taken to the next level, so it’s appropriate to look at reinvigorating the Board leadership,’’ he said.

“I’m extremely proud of all that the Club has achieved over the past 10 years. It’s been an incredible privilege to have been involved with Wests Tigers as Chairman.

"The obvious highlights were the 2005 NRL Premiership and this year’s Toyota Cup Premiership.

“The greatest personal legacy for me will be the wonderful friendships I have been able to develop with a really special group of people in a really special Club.”

Balmain Tigers have nominated Mr Nick DiGirolamo as their representative to become the Chairman of Wests Tigers for the remainder of the current term.

“Whilst the appointment was unexpected, it is one I am very proud and privileged to accept.
David Trodden has been an outstanding Chairman at Wests Tigers over many years and is someone who is held in the highest esteem by his peers across the game,’’ Mr DiGirolamo said.

“He has been instrumental in developing this Club into what it is today. Beyond David’s tireless work for Wests Tigers, he has also played an integral role in the establishment of the NRL Clubs Council and has represented all NRL Clubs with great distinction in key strategic discussions with the Australian Rugby League Commission.

“Both of the Wests Tigers shareholder groups, the Balmain Tigers and the Wests Group, sincerely thank David for the significant contribution he has made to Wests Tigers.”

Class act right through to the end of his tenure as Chairman.

I wish he'd let Sheens know that pearl of wisdom a few years ago

What is that supposed to mean? That Sheens should have replaced Farah as captain with someone new?

I have been lucky enough to know David Troden for most of my life. You would be hard pressed to find a more decent person in this world. He always looked out for the best interest of Balmain and Wests Tigers.

Think he is saying that Sheens should've realised that Sheens was getting stale!!

I spoke to Dave last week on the phone. As a former alumni he contacted me and said he would endorse me for a job at WT even though I've never met him.

Top bloke and by all reports did a great job at the club. Will be missed.

I would have thought it was rather obvious who he was referring to

Can someone clarify the 'annual rotating chairman' role please.

My understanding is that Mr DiGirolamo (who has a pretty impressive resume) is chairman until the end of this rotation and then a Wests nominee (who is probably just as impressive) comes in for a year while Mr DiGirolamo becomes the alternate?

When does this rotation end, who is the West's nominee and what is the distribution of powers between the two roles?

& if this is the case - what a freaking stupid system!

Mike Bailey?
Wests would go to a vote at some point I guess

I went to school at Five Dock with kids named DiGarolimo (pretty common that are I guess) anyone know if hes from that way?

Danny Weidler's column this morning - **Trodden calls it quits**
WESTS Tigers have lost a seriously good operator with chairman David Trodden pulling the pin. Trodden is smart and switched on with a passion for league - he wouldn't have been out of place high up at the NRL. The infighting being driven by the Magpies faction at the club played a role in his decision to leave his post early. New coach Mick Potter and his players will be under extreme presume next year. Trodden's cool head will be missed.

Phil Gould Tweet - Good luck to Tigers Chairman David Trodden .. I am expecting his time in RL is far from over .. Very talented man ..
>
Brett Clarke Tweet - Best Wishes to David Trodden. I've had the pleasure to work with him over many years. A great leader, mentor and friend and valuable asset

Seems the tributes are rolling in. Did a great job for the club, hopefully the board can learn from this and stop the infighting and squabbling for the good of the NRL team.
