DCE turns down huge Manly deal

I dont think we will get DCE & if he leaves Manly i think he will go to the Bulldogs with Hasler.

Anything is possible, Sheens did take DCE on tour and give him some game time while on tour last year, maybe they built up a bit of a relationship over there. He might like to repay the favour and come on board.

As I mentioned previously, why would a Star Halfback want to come to the Tigers? Its the Benji & Robbie Show and unless Sheens is prepared to punt one, no Halfback is going to able to have a say.

We need to percerver with Moltzen, or see where Miller is at towards the end of 2012, or buy a Domestic Type Halfback.

We wont get a Cronk; Sandow; Thurston or DCE

We could get a Pearce; McCrone; Wallace or Mullen

Are any of those off contract soon?

I have a feeling were after him and if we are im pretty sure he would want to join the tigers.

I'm pretty sure you don't have a clue what DCE would want

You may be right Watto, but still an approach to DCE and maybe Cronk couldn't hurt. Wallace just re-signed for 3 yrs with the Broncos. Not sure of the contracts of the others (have a feeling Mullen re-signed not to long ago). McCrone could be a good player to settle for, or even Sam Williams

His contract runs until the end of 2013,so it is a way off yet,he is 23,and Manly have refused an early release,he is only on $80k this year,he earnt $140k with incentives last year, but there are no incentives this year.
The full story is in this weeks RLW.

His manager is just trying to squeeze a bit more out of Manly.
When he does Pop My Cherry should grab it in a hurry.
If he was unlucky enough to be seriously injured he'd be worth nothing.
Could even turn out to be a flash in the pan (wouldn't be the first next big thing to burn out).
Take the money son! :righton:

Given our liking for Kiwis we should forget DCE and have a go at Foran

Foran is a 5/8 not a halfback. It been shown that Marshall and Foran aren't all that successfull partnering each other in the halves when they played together for New Zealand in the four nations… You need a half back and a 5/8 in a side not two halfs or two 5/8s.

Even though I'd love him in a tigers jersey I don't think we need a superstar no. 7 in our team. With benji and Robbie running the show I think luke Walsh would be a good fit for us. Decent organiser with a good kicking game, I think that's all we need.

The first thing that i thought when paul kent said that, was it's a very smart move on his manager's part.As manly will have no choice, but to offer him significantly more or risk him signing elsewhere.Don't think he will leave manly or if he did, don't think we would sign him,but would love if i was wrong & we manage to sign him.

Cherry-Evans denied release by Manly
March 14, 2012 - 9:39PM

Manly's fight to retain Daly Cherry-Evans appears to have become even more difficult, after it was revealed the star halfback requested a release from the defending NRL premiers.

Cherry-Evans' request to be cut loose from his current deal at the end of the season was denied last Friday, on the same day the 23-year-old turned down a new four-year deal with the club, as Manly desperately try to keep the Queensland Origin hopeful.

Cherry-Evans, whose current contract runs until the end of 2013, is putting the issue in the hands of his manager, Gavin Orr, who clearly believes the youngster is being undervalued by Manly - suggesting there are players in the code's under-20 competition on healthier contracts.

"I know players in the Toyota Cup on $100,000 and $120,000," Orr told Rugby League Week magazine.

"It's just not right that one of the brightest young kids in the game is on less than them."

Cherry-Evans confirmed he had turned down Manly's latest offer to tie him to the club long-term.

"We're obviously trying to get something sorted out as soon as possible and at the moment it's just not what we're looking for," he told NRL on Fox.

The Sea Eagles face significant pressure to retain their stable of stars, with fullback Brett Stewart strongly linked to St George Illawarra and young prop Darcy Lussick in high demand, while internationals Kieran Foran and Tony Williams could exercise get-out clauses and test themselves on the open market this off-season.

Players like Cherry-Evans are rare. Manly can't mess up here, they need to give him what he wants and make sure it happens quickly, or just like Dessie and potentially Kieran Foran and Tony Williams and Glenn Stewart and the rest that are apparently planning a mass exodus at Brookvale, could all be in different colours before you know it. He is a genuine talent, a natural footballer and at 23 years old, his best years are still yet to come.

I agree, we don't need a creator, we need a kicker at half. Cooper Cronk is the best around, and Luke Walsh would be good. DCE is just flavour of the week around here because he scored a try against us last Friday. If our defence had been awake we would have cut him down on halfway.

It's been tried before but maybe it's time to try Farah at half again, move him out of his current position in the defensive line to lessen the amount of defence he has to do, free up some of his energy allowing him to concentrate more on a halfback directing role and also give him more time to focus on his kicking game. In that way, look to get a new hooker if Farah works out.

Just read an article that basically stated Cherry-Evans was only on around $80,000 a year and the upgraded contract he turned down was only for $125,000\. He asked for a release. If the Tigers threw a bit at him with Ellis, Tuqiri and possibly Moltzen leaving it could be possible. The other thing I noticed was Tony Williams has a get out clause as well For the end of the season due to the mop Dessie leaving. Package deal?
