Defence

I think it was mentioned in another thread, 31 IIRC. 31 missed tackles and the Saints couldn't do anything with it. They had one line break for the night, and that was Neilsen scoring when one player (Brooks?) committed to the inside runner and the Fresh Prince hung wide for the winger.

31 for the night? If so that is pretty average. I'm pretty sure we were on 7 at the half too?

31 is a lot of miss tackles, but their are miss tackles and their are miss tackles, if a guy is isolated and misses a tackle its a real problem, but if if a guy misses a tackle and he has other players on hand to clean up, it is not such a big deal and that is what is happening at present, they are defending as a unit.
Although its very hard to judge anything on the Dragons effort on Monday night, they were diabolical and that is being kind, they even dragged us down to their level in the second half!!

We had 24 missed tackles with 7 in the first half. Tapau missed 5, Brooks/Lawrence 3, Woods/Santi 2\. We had a missed tackle % of 7.2%

I didn't watch the game but would be interested to know how many of these came while Farah was off the field or while we had reserves on.

To put it in context, Souths missed 33 (9.5% tackles missed) and Roosters 41 (12.6%).

Stats can be made to lie but it looks like we are going o.k. on paper… bring on South's and lets see what we are made of

There is a big difference between a miss tackle where one defender falls off but the attacker is immediately grassed by other defenders or a missed tackle that leads to line breaks and tries….

Just watched the Dragons game again on IQ..Of the 31 missed tackles not 1 lead to a line break or a try....there try came from Moses rushing up forcing Lawrence to do the same creating gap in the defence for Neilson to score ...No one missed a tackle...

Our defence is much improved on previous seasons but has yet to be truly tested...that will change on Sunday when Souff's come at us but the signs are good..

That's what I said elsewhere. 31 missed tackles, and only one line break which was a player committing to the inside runner. There was no missed tackle on that play.

Says a lot about the covering defense, and the cohesion with other defenders.

good to hear Geo. I reckon we are in good shape and really want to see how the boys lift against Souths. Woods should be up for a massive game and Lodge will (hopefully) be looking to make amends for missing last week.

According to rugby league week player stats, after two weeks none of our guys in the top ten missed tackles list.
Brooksy will be pleased!
