@Eddie said:SO we have not made the finals for going on 5 seasons. Were a club battling for every win. Taylor needs wins to save his job, club needs wins to keep the fans interested etc etc.
We come to a point in the season where we are still in the mix. 2 or 3 wins a row and we can enter this Top 8 with some confidence. Teams Like the Warriors, Titans, Dragons, Penrith, I think we can bet better then them and come over the top of them.
Yet here we are facing a season defining game against Canterbury with probably no Woods, no Farah and no Tedesco. So our of our bigger matches for the last 5 seasons and a dead rubber Origin means our best sit out. We miss players in 2 key positions. Chance of building further confidence and momentum gone?
Look I know Canterbury have some out (Klemmer, Jackson) however we are weaker off then them. I know we are hardly the only club affected. However look at the Warriors and how they get a free pass these 6 weeks during Origin, we are in contention with them for the Top 8, every 2 points is vital?? Dragons played a weak Storm and Cows during Origin, almost like 4 free points, again a team right in the same race we are in.
I just think this is a joke and other elite competitions would laugh at the NRL. The clubs pay these players and rely on winning games to keep the money flowing. Yet after a good win last night we now face putting out our fringe playrs giving us way less chance against the Bulldogs.
@Bengaliwolf said:You could argue that there is a significant advantage having your byes the week before origin considering most players back up the week after origin. I admit that's not always the case but on the whole there is more advantage to the teams who have the bye pre-origin as opposed to post-origin.
The Eels lose out most here with both of their byes coming after origin. The Raiders, Tigers, Roosters, Cowboys, Bulldogs and Dragons all have one before and one after. And the big winners out of origin are the Warriors, Sharks, Storm, Panthers, Rabbitohs, Titans, Sea Eagles, Broncos and Knights with both byes before origin.
I will admit that this is no guarantee of points but on the surface it doesn't seem to be a fair system. If you wanted to calculate the impact more accurately, I guess you'd have to calculate the win loss ratio for the teams during origin and add weighting to ladder positions, whether the game was home or away, how many star players were out for origin and what impact they would have had on that game. Essentially, you couldn't calculate it.
The only way to make it fair would be to schedule a whole weekend of byes for every team at origin. I don't want that option because I'd rather have an unfair system and get to watch footy this weekend than have a weekend with no action.
