Diving/Milking

For those that missed it, Souths & NQ in golden point last night, Cowboys kick off, Souths hit it up good first set to halfway, Sandow puts in piddly grubber kick giving Cowboys possesion on half way - they work it down for Bowen to have a shot at FG….it hits the upright, penalty to Souths for a NQ player offside...
They work it back up field, 20m out right in front with a tkl or two up their sleeve.
Luke darts from dummy half and is hit high in the face by segyaro, goes down like he's been shot with some brilliant bollywood style acting knowing its a penalty every day of the week, its the game and their semis hopes still faintly alive. Guranteed 2 comp points

**Q. Would you want Benji or Farah to do the same thing in the same situation as Isaac Luke did last night?**

Many see diving as not in the spirit of the game, would you prefer it if Benj or Robbie werent injured and jumped up for a quick play the ball before the VR could get involved, as opposed to some acting to ensure an almost guaranteed win?

I would want the win first and foremost, so if they were hit with a high shot, I would prefer them to stay down and get the penalty. As long as they make it look like a legitimate injury, thats fine with me.

And who's to say that Souths weren't going to kick a field goal in the next couple of tackles, now the Cowboys fan know how it feels to have a game cruelly taken away from them in golden point.
How many games have the Tigers lost in Golden Point by dubious refereeing and Officialdom, who can forget the debacle at the SFS in 2004 when Souths beat us by a field goal when they shouldn't have had possession or the Raiders beating us with a dubious penalty etc etc.

It is a tough one.
I think Luke over acted which has brought it to the attention of everyone.
He went down as if he'd been knocked out cold.
If he had just pretended to be groggy and was grabbing his jaw whilst getting up slowly probably would have still got the penalty and less people would be complaining.

I think in the end the right decision was made it was just a shame the refs missed the tackle originally.
BUT
Who cares that result was brilliant for us!

Q. Would you want Benji or Farah to do the same thing in the same situation as Isaac Luke did last night?
A. YES, yes, yes.

At NRL level it's about winning within the rules (in theory) what happened to Luke was worthy of a penalty within the rules of the game. If the same thing happens tomorrow to one of our players then a penalty should result, unlike the semi last year when Lote was clearly kneed by Smith and no penalty the injury would have put Lote out had WTs played the next game. From memory the suntan man missed the knees.

God it was good acting, IMO…the slow mo was the perfect milk.....Crowe must be giving the lads acting lessons in his spare time. I loved the crap that Thuston was spinning, that he would never do it

i thought when the video ref checks for high shots, the ref can only penalize if the tackle is worthy of going on report. I may be wrong, but i can't recall the guy being put on report.

Since when is a slap in the face (accidently) worth a penalty? It should have been a penalty to the Cowboys for bringing the game into disrepute!!!

English/World soccer anyone?

I just hope the Weststigers do not do that.

Souths, there is such a thing as Karma. Beware!

LOL…slap

OK....I'll go with a ''slap in the face''

Since whens it been OK to slap a player in the face, I gurantee its a penalty every day of the week, and this was more than just a slap.

Good to see youd be happy for our season to end this way.
Im sure benjis team mates would all feel the same way :unamused:
Stuff your ethics or morals I say, play to the rules as they stand

I think it is a horrible way to lose a game. Imagine it was a final.

But yes, got him in the face, quite clearly - I know it was only a love tap, but the force of the hit isn't mentioned in the rules.

You would be filthy if we lost a game that way, but if we were to win a game that way, we would be dusting off the rule book and pointing it in everyone's face.

In regards to the dive, it was bloody awful, but it happens all the time these days. Get used to it.

No it can be a penalty without been put on report plus they have the match review and the get called up to the judiciary.

I would prefer if its not in the game but it is and you have to go with the flow.

I agree Col. Todays game is girlie enough. All players made of glass. It's embarrassing. This is why wogball is a joke.

Regardless of whether he milked it or not, everyone is making a big deal of it because it was during golden point. Whether it was girlie or not doesn't really matter these days.

If that happened 10 minutes into the game it would have been a penalty. Then Souths kick a goal and lead 2-0\. If they then go on and win 20-18 (by that same two points) then no one would be saying a word.

I think it is about time they started giving penalties in golden point. The bloody thing is a free for all.

Didn't last years game against the Roosters teach us anything? 10 penalties should have come our way in that game and we would have been in the Grand Final! But no, pussy refs scared of blowing penalties in golden point COST US!

I didnt see the game but someone told me Bowen took a similar dive earlier in the game and gained a penalty, so if that is indeed true, good on Isaac Luke. And even more to the point, if Bowen did take the dive, someone should show it to the grub Thurston who stated post match, "i dont play that way mate, and neither do any of our boys".

I'd prefer not to win that way, but if Farah did it to keep us alive, well…...i'd sleep well that night. I guess we arnt all as old school as we'd like to think.

Ive enjoyed peoples honesty in this thread.

Interesting perspective Swordy good post.

If that was one of our players, I would have been filthy if they DIDN'T stay down. I don't see an issue here, sure he made a meal of it, but he was hit high, and he won them the game. Wouldn't expect any less in that situation.
