Yes and yes - he was good player, one of my favourites, as a kid, and my mum's absolute favourite! lol. Great goal kicker as well.

Not footage, shakey, but here's a link to some info on Tony that you might find interesting. I do remember him kicking goals from the halfway mark quite a bit, even in the wet! They used the old leather footballs back then, which became very heavy when wet, so this was no mean feat.

I did get to play at Leichhardt though, which was a buzz..

When Simon, what were you competing for.

Played some footy in the Balmain juniors when i was youngish 16 for Holman in the late 80's.

We played Ryde-Eastwood in the GF…....we were undefeated all year and lost literally in the last second to a controversial try.

Sparked an all in brawl and even the bench and supporters were involved. It was dead set mental.

But a real treat to play on hallowed turf.

I'm trying to work out what got his wife so angry. As Glennb pointed out, no one attacked the guy as a person, just gave their opinion of him as a player. Fancy having the nerve to give your opinion of a players ability on a footy forum, whats this world coming to.

Fair point but did you have to be such a dick about it?

Just wanted to mention that I got onto hallowed ground heaps of times as a youngun…...many of the younger fans would not know this but you could run onto the field after the siren and shake hands with the players and then kick the ball around for an hour or so after the game.....I would pop a few field goals and score in the corner in the last second in my tiger top to win the GF.....It was awesome.

And i remember the day i ran on and patted my fave player Allan McMahon on the back.....i was delirious with excitement.

And PS....i nabbed a few corner posts in my day too.

Treat people how they treat you. She left herself open for a return of serve the way she came in abusing people for giving a constructive opinion of a player on a footy forum.

Playing on Leichardt evan as a junior would have been a massive buzz, just walking onto the field would've gotten you fired up id imagine.

I get fired up just going to a game there, lols.

To be in a GF…and run on the field even though there was only a few hundred people was a mad buzz.......I remember taking a bomb and making a good run and someone shouted out my name and good run,,,,,,,,i heard it as clear as day...I wonder if its the same for the players now?

Scored one of the most memorable tries I have seen at Lidcombe against Newtown. Ran the length of the field chased by Newtown winger Kevin Gentles. Gentles was pretty quick and was much faster than Ford. Tony zig zagged his way down the field making it impossible for Gentles to tackle him. Gentles finally dived about 10 mtrs out just as Ford zagged and scored. It was so funny.

Yes … Just !
He was fullback in the early 70's

Yes and if memory serves me correctly he is the reason for the tall goal posts at Lidcome. Used to kick them so high it was hard to tell with the regular posts if they went over (lol… it's a good story and I'm sticking to it).

Allan McMahon….now he had a kick on him! Pretty sure he used to own the Grand Hotel down in Wollongong. Saw him there a few times in the 80's.

Seeing Tiges fans are also remembering, yes, he certainly gave it a good boot, pity that he lacked a bit of heart. Even as a youngster watching, it was pretty apparent, especially with Neil Pringle showing the polar opposite.

I think of "Buckets" ever time I see your posts WD. Enjoyed a few rounds with him on a number of occasions after his playing days. Have not seen him for a dozen or so years now.

Great memories STT …. They used to stop the clock at Lidcombe with 5 to go ..... Supposedly to stop the kids running on .... Never worked.
I never seemed to be able to get near Tommy when I ran on. Patting John Dorahy on the back was almost as good

Same at Leichhardt with the clock Knuckles…..they wold stop it with 5 to go...if it was close it was agonising as u would be only guessing what time it was...My mummy bought me a new fangled watch with a timer on it so we could know the time and offset heart attacks.

And I saw a post mentioning Neil Pringle…...i remember him flying off many a short ball by Brian Lockwood many a time at Leichhardt and bringing the crowd to its feet....

Pringle told Wayne Pearce to make sure you roll the players a couple of times when you tackle them on the grand stand side. Pearce asked was it because you could slow the play down or get them in to touch? Pringle said no, it's so the spectators can see the number on the back of who made the tackle!
